It's hilarious to find out that we're in almost exact possition in life. Ive been following you on my main account since you made that Vtuber guide and actually inspired me to do so which is where I'm at right now(just starting). This video reminded me of a research paper I did before involving success. Van Gogh didn't bother painting until he was 27, Bill Gates when he was 23, Stan Lee when he was 39 etc... Starting point does not matter, its a societal illusion based on the bell curve of success, just because you're an outlier does not mean you don't matter.

As a VTuber in his early 40s whose channel is centered around retro games, I can attest that there is no age too old to be a VTuber - what matters is the fun and engagement you get with your viewers - if being a VTuber adds some joy to one's tiny community corner of the internet, then go for it!

I'm 42 and am getting ready to get started on my own channel. And I only discovered and started investigating vTubing because my bf, who is 37, got me into it. There are gaming grannies on TH-cam, senior citizens taking Tai Chi for their health, and young people listening to Frank Sinatra or The Beatles. When it comes to hobbies, people should find and follow their passions.

I'm 34 years old and I'm in the process of trying to become a Vtuber and I personally do not care if people think I'm too old to be doing it. What I think matters is that if it's something you like and find fun and want to try and do, then you should do it.

Most people that's boys some are using girl avatars which you all have to be careful they could be Creapy creeps that will kidnap you. There are asian girls like Korea doing streams trying to be cute and pose and a lot of people don't realize that those girls are traffic slaves ams they crying fie help. Look it up. But who cares you ate 24-50 year old vtuber some are born with a disability like me still live with parents ans parents make the decision for you and say you can't tldo this or that.

I find the age conversation odd since, as you said, a lot of successful vtubers are far older than 18, especially in corpos. I feel like a lot of people who want to become vtubers don't understand how much work it took for most people who join agencies have shown their creative skills and content creation ability for years beforehand.
And as far as irl work goes, everywhere I've been people stop asking everyone's age and are just social together anyway. Once you're over about 20, irl work relationships happen at a variety of ages, it just depends who you get along with at that point.
I'm in my mid-30s, and I've honestly never worried about my age in online communities before. I remember when my parents would always say like "don't talk to strangers on the internet" (which didn't stop me), but even now I donno if that's a thing anymore with how much time people spend online today. My only advice for anyone in general is to remember that once something is on the internet, it's always on the internet, so whatever you post, make sure you want it here forever.
Also, "there's more to content creation than just streaming" might be worth it's own video at this point. XD

    • @TheDkmariolink
      @TheDkmariolink ปีที่แล้ว +2

Couldn't agree more with the IRL part. Since I work with a bunch of accountants and I'm the "hip" programmer, most of my co workers and buddies are in their 50s, and one tech guy who works close with me is 70. Really no one cares about age unless it gets romantic, people who obsess over age are mostly just teenagers. Once you hit 25, you generally stop caring.
As long as you're not doing any weirdo behavior, age should not matter online, it's the one place where people are free to express themselves without being judged by outward appearance.

Most corporate vtubers are at least mid 20s to 30s. You kinda need a lot knowledge, experience and skill in order to be selected for those roles. And the younger you are, the more at a disadvantage you are since you've had less time to build those things up.
On the indie side it also makes sense for the same reasons you mentioned about just being able to afford all this stuff.
Though, 3k for a model is absolutely wild xD
ITS WORTH IT FOR THE HD EAR FLOOPS AND FLOPS THO
And just generally from what I've noticed in the indie Vtubing scene, those around their mid to late 20s are the people who're doing well and putting out consistent content. So really that kind of seems to be the sweet spot
Great work on the video :3

as a teenager who vtubes occasionally, i just got a cheap model that was customizable and i just do it as a fun hobby with friends. im homeschooled and have lots of time so me and my friends will just play a game with our models and talk to our 1 viewer before heading off. id never consider doing it as my career until i am much older so for now its just a fun lil thing :)

Its crazy to see a different aspect of this, since I'm among the younger group (18) I usually see people in my age group getting clowned on due to us just not knowing a lot (during my first collab I gave my birth year and they got cold feet thinking I was a minor), personally im very self aware and like to joke about it. But I was ignorant to the fact that "older" vtubers are getting clowned on for their age and some may even feel a certain way towards those in our age group that are more on the lewd side. I assumed it was common sense that most vtubers are older due to the "entry fee" and also the bigger vtubers usually didnt just come out of nowhere they usually have a past of doing content creation for years. Bottom line whether you're 18 or 89 you can become a vtuber. ALSO GRAPE JELLY IS GOOD

    • @KemiieChi
      @KemiieChi ปีที่แล้ว +4

I can relate to this as well. im on the younger group too and have been clowned on. Found out about VTubing and started watching VTubers around 2019, decided to enter it in 2020 by saving up and buying a l2d model (after using a vroid one). Considering i was 13 - 14 at the time i didnt think much about my age until i started to do VTubing. I felt as if i was being treated differently in a not so good and positive way, to where you sort of feel demotivated and left out. It is still apparent even today.
Me being 17 now, turning 18 in a month. The past 3 - 4 years of watching VTubers and being a VTuber the feeling of being treated differently in a not so good and positive way is very real. and can go from ignoring all the way to blocking, even if they were completely SFW. And i do have to admit it feels lonely too.
I think i can speak for the younger people and say that, you can become a VTuber. But i do highly recommend to look for other VTubers or people that support you as well that are around your age. It will make things much more livable.

    • @statictokyo
      @statictokyo ปีที่แล้ว +4

@KemiieChi Yeah, it's a little rough from both sides, but I can't really blame anyone (other than the minors budding into 18+ spaces) . It is way easier to find those within your age group so it's not as lonely. Sorry you experienced some loneliness, but hopefully you have good experiences now or in the future.

    • @KemiieChi
      @KemiieChi ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@statictokyo I agree with you on that, for the minors throwing themselves into 18+ spaces well, they deserve whats coming after ignoring the rules and faking their age.
Its much more easier indeed to instead find other VTubers that are in your age group.
I dont really have that much positive experiences right now. But i do hope once i turn 18 there will be more better experiences out there. SFW or not (in the unlikely event i get into that. but mostly SFW)

By no means an expert, but I felt compelled to reply with what I've learned so far. When it comes to 'getting into' streaming, or vtubing in particular, there's potentially a massive cost involved. Unfortunately there's generally a direct correlation between streaming quality and money invested. For example the cost of quality audio hardware, a reasonably capable PC, depending on the motion capture there can be a LOT of money tied up in that. Especially if you're hoping to do full-body for VR. While not imperative you're likely best served with a dedicated streaming machine, aside from a gaming machine/content source. That is a PC to capture and encode and a PC to play games on, so you're gaming/content rig isn't sharing load between the game and the stream AND if your source dies for some reason your stream doesn't go down. Then you've got whatever your internet connection is. Because quality streams require bandwidth, and many residential connections significantly limit upload rates. Ultimately connection availability is really location dependent. If you're lucky you've got cheap fiber but if not you're probably looking at a commercial connection which will be, comparatively, expensive. That's not even paying for assets, like your avatar, rigging, props, scenes, music (copyright how I hate thee) etc. It IS possible to DIY but that takes time to learn, and time to get good, or, if you got it money for someone who's already invested that effort. And the industry, such as it is, is still changing and growing as the general public finds out about it. It's certain that early adopters, especially those that stuck with it because it was their passion and not something they picked up hoping to make it rich, have a significant advantage over those dipping their toes now. Realistically, if you're thinking about vtubing, a term that didn't really exist until the last couple of years afaik, or even live-streaming, podcasting, etc. there's a STEEP learning curve if you want to compete in a rapidly saturating market. You better want to stream for the sake of streaming, not because you hope for the level of success of some of those that've been around for going on a decade. At least, that's my opinion. Actually, *anything* you hope to excel at you need to be passionate about. You have to want to do it for the sake of doing it. Not because being ambivalent about your hobby and/or profession means you won't succeed, but because you're probably competing with tens of thousands (or hundreds depending on what 'it' is) and those who are passionate about what they do WILL do better at it. And even IF it's something you love, you should be prepared for disappointment. Especially if you're not one of the lucky few that captured lightning in a bottle. Be prepared to stick with it even if you're not as 'successful' as you want, which is where being passionate can help. Generally, it seems if you're willing to devote a significant amount of time and portion of your life to doing it, you will eventually succeed simply through sheer obstinance. Oh, since you asked, I'm pretty sure I'm a bit older than most interested in this type of media, a bit.. Let's just say I came about somewhere in the middle of the Apollo program. Regarding age disparity, I personally believe age only matters on a case-by-case basis. Get to know someone BEFORE you find out how old they are (which is usually what happens online) and if you 'click' then who cares? Friendship knows no age boundaries. Some 'children' are surprisingly mature, while all to many 'adults' are abysmally infantile. Thanks for the video.

My personal thoughts regarding the age-gating 25+/30+/etc. groups, even as a 23 almost 24 year old, I can honestly say I completely get it. I'm in a Vtuber Discord, not gonna name it just because I'm going to say some mildly negative things, but I do get the impression that it's very much full of 14-18 year olds getting into PNGTubing who interact with others and the server very much in ways that show they're minors who don't quite get what they're doing; bad equipment(like using only their phone or tablet)/audio because bad mics, poorly-drawn PNG OCs, constantly asking for free art/assets, etc. Power to them, but it is unnerving, and I will say I'd prefer to interact with more mature people on a more regular basis there. I'm in the server for the pages of resources they provide, but in that server I have to assume everyone I'm interacting with could be a minor, so I keep interactions at a minimum. Once I "age into" a 25+ group, I'm joining it, ngl. Age gating keeps minors and immature people out, and generally increases the quality of conversation with other people. Age gating is never a bad thing by itself especially when its used to keep minors out.

The Vtuber I have been watching for the longest time is 47 years old. I started watching her before she became a Vtuber, and she has achieved even greater success since then. While she adopts the persona of a Vtuber during her live streams, her TH-cam Let's Play videos feature only her voice. Ultimately, it is her captivating personality and ability to entertain that contribute to her success. By having fun herself, she ensures that her audience also has a great time.

I’m in my 40s and vtubing wasn’t something I thought of getting into. I’m still thinking it over but if I do, I mostly want to pass on my knowledge and experience with storytelling and editing. The booktuber market is very particular. So I figured on a way that would set me apart from the other writing channels, but I don’t believe being a writing/editing vtuber is in itself something that would draw and keep people, so I’ve thought about other activities that would either overlap, intersect, or cycle back to the main idea of the channel.
Then there is the art and music. I am quite established in my life but I’m not paying 3k for something I know I can do myself. Being a Jack-of-trades IRL does translate to my artistic skills. I just hate coding and computers hate me. Old man problems, lol!
Since I’m older than others and I have to deal with young apprentices IRL, I understand when to act on the level and when to act as the old wise bunny on the hill. The dynamic of having a gap in age can be fun, especially the “young man” and “back in my day” jokes. Or the “I’m losing my hearing, did I hear you say (insert mortifying statement here).”
I’m not looking to make this into a job. It’s something fun to do and if others learn and have fun along the way then it brights up my day as well as someone elses.

Much like other types of creators, I don't think it really matters as long as you have something to offer. I get why people in their 30s don't want to hang out with people in their early 20s though, they grew up in a time with things 2000s-born wouldn't understand/relate with so being surrounded by them can feel very isolating/lonely.

omg i feel ya girly i am a 36 year old vtuber just starting out why does it matter how old we are behind the avitar. my plans to be a furry vtuber but still its so dumb. I myself am currently getting back into twitch streaming after a 9 year hiatus. its tough but totally worth it. i also am streaming for the fun of it to entertain others. great example is earlier today i did a 2 hour art stream and chat was completely dead but i did it anyway because why in the heck not. for those who are starting out streaming dont dwell on the numbers and do it for the fun of it. i have learned with my many years on twitch that the people that get the most views are the ones who are genuine and play for the fun of it and not play the popular games they play the games that they enjoy because its more truthful and enjoyable to watch. the ones who only play the popular games or do the popular catagories tend to get washed out by the tons of extra people who are doing the same thing. the ones who do it for the fun of it and dont care about the numbers shine due to the fact that they arent looking for views or followers. For all those new content creators dont dwell on the numbers and enjoy your time on the platform you are on and stay safe doing it. do not give away where you are or how old you actually are or what you do for a living. it can be a dangerous place on the internet if you arent careful.

at my high school, we have a lot of opportunities to work with theaters and other nearby projects. but the second you stop passing your classes, even if you're the lead role in a massive play with no understudy, the teachers will pull you off the project and you can't get back to working on it until you're back to passing (at least passing. I'm under the impression that some teachers are more strict). any sort of difficult, time-consuming after school activity should be like this.

As a person around in their early 30's, it saddens me that there are people out there who makes a big deal about age. personally i find “Virtual” streamers in general should not have any kind of age range labeled on them .. fuck..even society itself should no longer age range people but judge on an individual level … “oh you are very very good at this …what you are 14 ..sorry not old enough to get in this group!”
“looking for a job you are already had 20 years experience in …sorry but 30+ in age is too expensive for us!”

My brother started Acting Semi profession when he was 12 so I see no issue with young people becoming vtuber/content creators. I still say be careful as all people should be on the internet. Of course don't chase after adult content. My biggest worry is clout chasing or like chasing, it very addicting if your going to stream or create videos do it for the love of the art not to chase the dopamine hit of popularity.

good discussion ! laughed a bit at the thought of teenagers going to their parents being like "hey mom could i get $1000 i wanna be a vtuber"
i think part of what draws so many people into the scene of content creation/streaming/vtubing is just because on the internet, people are surrounded by success. many people like to watch larger content creators and streamers for various reasons, and those people often overlook the years of experience, struggles, and hard work behind said creators, as well as the sea of smaller creators behind them.

I'm about to be in my 30s next year and I've always wanted to be a virtual creator ever since Kizuna Ai was in her early / peak days. She played a huge role in inspiring me to consider outlets for being a faceless creator. I really like the idea of being a vtuber, but not the constant livestreaming expectation that people have for modern day vtubers. It's just not the vibe I want.
I find it refreshing when there are vtubers / virtual creators who are closer to me in age. Especially the ones who don't livestream and focus on pre-recorded videos (which is incredibly rare and I wish more of them did). It's still hard not to feel like it's "too late" for me even though I just want vtubing to be a hobby. Who knows, maybe one day? 😅

  • @damiensadventure

    Excellent video Mari!
I can totally relate to this. I am old as dirt. But I didn't just join the scene. I've been around for a long time on the sidelines. You know, stagnating and stuffs. It wasn't until I ended up stuck at home with a semi-permanent injury and a lot of stir craziness that I decided to do something of my own.
You know what tho, I tell myself every day that even if no one watches, I've already won. Because the alternative is living like the WoW guy unable to get around or do anything.
But if I had to pick one thing that, as someone older coming into the scene might have a problem with, it would be social media and like marketing yourself. Not for profit. But just getting ones name out there can be ROUGH.

It’s literally a common vtuber meme about “the 40yo man in his basement hiding behind an anime girl with a voice changer”. As someone who is nonbinary, 42yo, and just getting started this year in streaming that was a massive gatekeeper for me. It already took me forever to get started because of my past life as a failed youtuber in my 20s and really bad social anxiety. Having to worry about getting called out for my age or whatever was very off putting.

Am 19. I think it takes a lot of commitment to be successful with content creation in general. More than you would ever think just looking from a glance.
If you aren't talented, there will be a lot of "figuring things out", which will make you feel stupid. People are superficial, so your audience won't just "appear" like magic for you to talk to. But folks who don't care will though (you'll never know, they already clicked off your video.) Unless they go out of their way to hurt you because of your inexperience, or you look at your analytics, you won't know how your video is being pushed to people's feed.
You truly are on your own unless you help yourself by researching how to be successful, or make connections with people willing to fail with you. That's why I'll respect anyone who goes out of their way to 'sit down and play video games'; especially older people - because they probably either went through more trial and error than anyone sees, or learned quicker than you will ever know.
Can you stay dedicated? Even after failing so many times? Is grit in your character? Be honest with yourself so you don't regret wasting your time when you're older.

When it comes to doing something you love. There are two ages, dead and not dead. Ya get one crack at this thing called life, and you shouldn't let something like age keep you from following your passions.

The "Two ages, dead and not dead" cracked me up. 😆 I agree with the fact that I wish Vtubers had come so much earlier in my life. Although I'd probably be just as anxious and indecisive of what I'd want to do. ADHD makes it very difficult for me to make up my mind and not fly off the handle on yet another new creative project and not finish, or even start, the last. Even as a Vtuber I don't know what to do with my creative chaos. 😫 And that's one of the easier things I have to deal with myself. 😖
If you were truly wondering about the hag thing, here is an answer I found on Google:
"What do you call a male hag?
You could technically call a man hag a scum, a blighter, or a curmudgeon. However, my personal favorite way to refer to a man hag is this: "A beastly confounded disgruntled old hoot of a man." You could also call him a scummy old hermit."

as someone who is just starting with vtubing this was honestly my dilemma when i was younger 18-20 i wanted to try content creation and especially vtubing but couldn't because money and as i grew older for a while i felt that was becoming too old and missed my chance it was actually only a few months ago that I made the decision to just go for it simply because i came to the realization that if i want to do something i should and honestly i have been having so much fun playing with my model and prepping for my first stream that i can end up spending hours messing with things in obs and vtube studio without realizing it (also your videos were some of the ones that have helped me get to this point after i made the decision to commit to vtubing and also hearing that your mid 20s makes me feel a lot better as i am also in that age range)

I'm agreeing with what you said, I don't think age should be a concern in your hobby, like if you want to do that, you just should, the one part I'm not 100% agreeing with is the age gap talking thingy. I don't think you should force yourself to stop talking to someone just because they're like 15 years younger or older, like if you talked to someone on Discord and you laugh with them and everything, and consider them as a friend, you shouldn't just stop talking to them after learning they're x yo. In general I don't think you should just stop doing something you like because you're too old or too young, the age doesn't really matter what matter is what you want to do. Remember thought, this is my opinion, and I'm not saying this is the right thing to think- oh and I was talking about anyone 18+, before being 18 is like a complete different subject.. strangely, but yeah I wasn't talking about teenagers.
also, "just ask [their age]" (12:12) into "it's rude to ask a girl her age" (12:54) made me giggle I gotta admit. Anyway, great video, liked this talk !

Here a bit about myself: Im 25 and disabled irl, no job and make my living with stuff like plvling/gold selling (and stuff like that) in videogames.
I dont think there is an age to be to old beeing a Vtuber, I mean some Vtubers even slipped their tongue which age they have and are successful as a Vtuber.
I think most young people dont understand how hard that kinda work is and how much effort they need to achieve something for longtime.
For me most Vtubers are more attractive to watch that are over the age of 25, because of the knowledge of planning schedules/streams because of irl work/family/etc and most likely the topics/how they interact with chat.
I play VR games sometimes and stream them in discord for my friends and even got told why I dont try Streaming/Vtubing as a living since i got a great humour.
Simple reason for me is just the amount of effort I would need to put into that. I already got my problems irl and when I got time I just wanna have some fun talking with friends and play games.
There is more then just having a Vtuber model and starting streaming , stream schedule planning/irl stuff like cleaning/spending time with irl friends not just online friends/if the personality and content is appealing/time investmenst in general to improve the stream.
Thats my view on that topic, I am sorry for missspellings and stuff since english is my 3rd language.
    Also great video

I’m only 23 but I see myself still being a VTuber In 5 years. Even 10 ! If someone says someone is too old, imo it shows me that they aren’t on VTubing for the right reasons and definitely aren’t in it for the long haul.
I do want to point out that I have no experience in a work place. I’m permenantly and completely disabled. I learned to make models myself which is how I got my model, through an art trade making a model for someone.
I don’t think it’s necessarily important to have the money of you’re willing to learn. I have never asked anyone for free stuff. Even donation goals I give rewards to my audience for.
Complaining in general about your numbers puts me off from people. Why not be happy anyone supports you? Even if it’s just 1 person?
This was a fun video! I don’t think there is a too old for anything imo.

  • @melnyanieclips

This topic is very important for our community to talk about! Everyone (above the age minimum of streaming platforms) should be able to be a vtuber if they so wish! And no one should be able to judge them for it! As you said in the video, It's just another form of content creation, and it helps a lot of us feel safer! Someone's age is no excuse to ever be disrespectful or unkind.
I thought I would add in my own thoughts and personal experience and opinion regarding streaming as a minor (as a 17 year old who has been in this for about a year now), to perhaps enlighten any who are curious, and provide options for people like me who want to do so on a budget. I have spent most of my life in theatre and content creation has always been a side hobby of mine, something for self expression and creative outlet. I had been wanting to stream for awhile, but I knew how unsafe it was (especially for female presenting streamers) so I began searching for a safer alternative, and I discovered vtubing! I have been an anime enjoyer for as long as I can remember and since I have a passion for acting I was immediately interested, the anonymity was also very appealing. I began doing research on how to become one. My first model was made in vroid, It is a really good software if you learn how to use it correctly! With this model and a couple of static PNGS made in picrew, I was able to hit affiliate within my first month of streaming, and using those funds I saved up for a few months and bought my first live2d model! My streaming completely funds itself, and does not get in the way of my education! I am an A-B student and I'm graduating at the end of this year. I have now been a vtuber for almost 2 years and I'm so glad I found this community! :)
If you are a minor and want to be a vtuber, I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you are 13+ or OLDER, (i would honestly say 15+) twitch does not allow anyone younger, and the internet is full of creeps and weirdos. STAY IN YOUR LANE, don't interact with any 18+ communities. I have talked to a lot of people who think they are mature enough to handle it, doesn't matter. You are disrespecting everyone you interact with by lying to be there, it puts them and their reputation in danger, very not cool. Keep your content age appropriate. Start with free to use assets and work your way up to something more customizable, also enter art raffles! This gives yourself time to even know if this is something you are interested in. It is truly not for everyone.

_"Why do teenagers want to become vtubers?"_
I think a lot of people, not just teenagers, just want friends and a social circle to do things with, and to be seen and be known. But everybody is so insecure about their actual selves that we want to wear a mask while we do that. We have unrealistic expectations of ourselves and others and the world around us and life itself. There's a lot of escapism in it, but based on legitimate needs and wants.

The idea that you're "too old" is the easiest excuse to use with yourself. Separating yourself from what you've been told is "success" and protecting yourself from the painful journey of working through whatever feelings you may have towards doing things you want to.
I've struggled with feeling ashamed of myself for all of my adolescence.
Between my age, my experience and journey of living life, and the influence of the people and events in the world around me-- It took until my mid-twenties before I started to really "live" and even imagine my own future.
I've done things that are personally terrifying and that a younger version of myself would shut down at the mere idea of doing: Talking to new people on my own without a buffer, travelling alone, going to new places alone, expressing my feelings and saying no when I need to, opening myself up to new friendships, learning how to move on from surviving and finding my feet so that I can thrive.
It's all so simple when written down, but those are my most proud accomplishments since 25...which is just two years!! Amazing progress tbh :)
I think that when it comes to those who are younger or immature, is that they're often chasing the idea of someone else's life. They haven't learned to think about how they want to live their life, how to imagine a future for themselves, and maybe thinking about that is justifiably terrifying. But until you confront yourself, you'll just be left chasing shadows.
I feel that a bulk of the "I wanna be vtuber but it's expensive" crowd are people chasing shadows. And I always worry about them, because it's easy to be your own worst enemy. (And yes, I am projecting when I say this.) To them, it all looks so easy. And since we're all online, where everyone puts their best foot forward and where high production value always stands out, you only ever see the crème of the crop.
Also, having more lived experience usually just makes you inherently miles more interesting. You don't develop charisma talking alone to a wall, but in learning how to interact with other people and the world around you skillfully.

One of the things we keep forgetting is that this is such a new technology, and usually newer technologies get adopted by younger generations. But those generations will get older as the technology goes more mainstream and develops a history. And with the advent of older vtubers, I’m betting they’ll capture an audience younger vtubers can’t get. Like Mari said, people usually want to be around their own age group, and the same can be said of entertainers and their audience. Whether on issues of maturity or content, more mature TH-camrs I am betting will fill a need the younger ones can’t.

Because when I have time to move forward, I would hope to become a non-traditional Vtuber! I totally see how it's more of a hobby than a career. For me, the sphere and community of vtubing leans more towards a mixed reality feel and an escape from the boring existence that is usually reality. My life has been centered around helping people and watching Vtubers makes me happy and it helps my mental health. So when I get going, I kinda see it as another way of helping people who I would have never really interacted with and at the same time also maybe helping myself too through difficult times by knowing someone cares. Knowing that someone is willing to listen to my odd thoughts and ideas. Sorry for this comment being stupid long, this is an amazing video!

Almost three years now of fun and barely any drama. My character is a goofball Shonen with an audience who calls me an old man... I love this hobby 🤣

I mean, you can get so many models for free or just grab an adoptable for like 20$-50$, they are all over twitter. There is discords with free stream assets that at least help you get started. So the money aspect is probably rather secondary. But i the problem with especially teens is that all they see is someone sitting there and playing video games. I see so many people talking in "smaller" streams with the illusion that you can easily make a living off of streaming with no effort. They underestimate how much work content creation and how taxing it can be or become. Being media present on multiple platforms, editing content, making posts, having a basiic understanding of business, trying to get sponsors etc. There is so much stuff that needs taking care off if you want to turn this hobby into a career. I'm in my 30's, just finished my rebranding and gonna get back into streaming soon, not for monetary gain, not as a career, but as a hobby and to meet likeminded people.

I do mostly SFW content but do adult jokes. I have some friends that are younger (I just turned 28) One of my good content friends is 21. Sometimes I find it weird when I think about the age gap. But as long as there is a line I think it is fine.
As for teens I don't mind them in the content sphere but I won't dm them or be in a private space with them at all. I think teens can be Vtubers as all it is is a content creator that has a model instead of face cam (which is a safer alternative for creators specially teens). Teens can save up money for their own commissions or they can use free/cheap assets. Teens have been in the content sphere since the beginning and they always will be. Just hiding behind a model they should def be more cautious of the spaces they put themselves in.
Keep in mind Mr Beast started at 13.

I think age makes no difference. 22 years old can be more professionals then a 40+year old, There even a thing that's pretty normal that the older you are the less you care about how people think(dam right old people complain and whine as much as a 18 year old, realty is often funny). I also think you can be friends with of any age as long as you have common ground. Age is so nothing when it comes to any form of content creation. Now older creators my not have the same energy as a younger creator idk, I really don't. One thing I can say one thing I don't mind people starting young as they must work at it like any of us.

First off: your model is amazing and I think this is the most raw Weirdcore(?) Mari Yume I’ve seen. Meow. (Hopefully I find time to do art! Speaking of art...) Second, I think people are cautious. For me specifically I, a 3,000 something year old MIDIDOLL cat girl with wings and a halo do not want to tap on the land mines of someone who is younger and can’t control their mood, tantrum or lack of self-regulation. Making “friends” is rough because a single opinion of a hobby interest is different from each other. I also find “lewdtubing” a very gray land mine too because some create for a specific attention I’m not interested in, and they are much younger than me. Personal safety aside, I think it’s never too old to create content! The last wave of corpos like on HoliTEMPUS have ones in early 30s. It’s nice to relate to someone who has more experience with the world they grow up from! And lately there’s a Japanese VTuber group called MetaGrandma, who are all 60s something grandmas whose goal is to create content and share their passions that only they knew growing up! It’s a unique breath of contrast when a young adult VTuber interacts with the founder of MetaGrandma!
My reason for not proceeding to VTubing is because I have to focus on my day job at MIDICITY, and I want to support VTubers as a fan by the concept! If I start streaming I may not have time on-live to be with my oshi! But that won’t stop me from supporting artists, etc, and I might as well learn how to create a model myself one day...! (If I ever need a rigger, I know a couple!)
Anyway, I hope you VTuber Of Dreams have a lovely day! 💕✨

I’m in my 40s and loves grape jelly. I’m interested in VTubing, it looks fun and a great job to do since I can’t get into what I want to do.

I am already streaming sometimes for 2 years but my current financial and living circumstances dont make it possible to make it constistently. So when I am older, have more money etc I am more able to stream. But then I will be 25+. For me thats not a problem. I think its more problematic that so many think it should be possible for EVERYONE under 25 to afford streaming professional... like... how?

You are 100 percent correct about the teenagers. Someone went into my dms and complained to me about how unfair that I was a vtuber and they weren't. And I was thinking like you do realize that there literally are free ways of making your own model.

If you ever worry about being too old for vtubing, remember there is an 85 year old Japanese grandmother vtuber, Hiroko

i think everyone should be able to do content creation as they want to. i do wish people wouldn't dox themselves so readily, but other social media basically encourages this.

I do gacha animations just to do story lines about my character and I am trying to become a successful content creator I really enjoy making content because it's fun and I can experience how big the world is and that there are lots of people here that would appreciate my dreams ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ because I remember when i was a kid i would try to use my imagination back when i was in elementary school and i got made fun of alot but now I am an adult I can feel accepted about being myself 😊☺️

It's kinda funny to see how ageist the VTuber scene can be when a lot of the most succesful corpo VTubers are above the age of 30 (Botan, Mio, Korone, Fubuki, etc)

nice vent, as a fellow 30lvl it's very relatable, following you exactly for that "anonymous vtubers meet" vibe - that gap-moe of dried angst behind fluffy avatar. This cannot be seen from 18yo and certainly not from juveniles, and they will never get it because media character is like that vampire child trope - they are stick with that for life. in that aspect golden years vtubers are certainly better.
on a side note, i personally find my drive in an "aspiration to vtubing" without actually planning to become one - imho it clicks all the boxes without any of negatives, am i the weird one?

As someone trying to be a 3d vtuber, it is hard with disabilities to start off when you haven't had a job and battling the disability office. I don't think age is the issue. I think it's a mindset. It's a mindset that it looks easy. You have To be your own sound tech, social media manager, IT support, marketer, branding, and so much more. People see something for what it is and not how it is put together. Rome wasn't built because someone had thought it was easy. That's why younger generations think it's easy. Because they see it as it is and not how that vtuber made it. You can be a vtuber 3d, png, or 2d if you have the skill to do that, but what comes after starting is the hard part. As a self-published author and newer vtuber, I can say it is not the yellow brick road Oz promises. It is a desert scorching and barren until you find that oasis to call home.

I'm above 20 and choose Vtubing because It's more comfy to be fair even if it's a bit more expensive vtubing helped me start streaming for real even if I wanted to stream for a really long time :'). For younger they should be afraid to set boundaries if they feel uncomfy around people like because of certain behavior and stuff :>.
