    Breaking bad is unique because it was a TV show that was allowed to end before it exhausted its story potential.

      Also due to having a stable and great showrunner/creator. He always stayed on track with his vision and didn't suddenly throw a plan overboard or left the show prematurely. A lot of shows see showrunners come and go and they all dip in quality.
      Dexter, Arrow, House of Cards are some examples of shows that had their showrunners leave.
      And we all know how those turned out.

    Per Imon's question, where the personality change started with Walt is that the universe pushed all of his buttons. He was poor, humiliated at the car wash, in a position much below what his abilities deserved, and he found out that he was dying of cancer.

    Poor New Mexico.
    Walt did not become this overnight, it was building up during all of his waste life as he felt it, underachieving despite his high intelligence and skills, repressing his drive for success and achievement because of this pride with Elliot and Gretchen, settling in all areas of his life , perhaps because it was easier, as we saw in the first episode.
    But it wasn't easy in the shadows of his psyche. It's all lashing out against life or fate itself as we know what he decides when he finds out he has terminal cancer. It's anger and childish, immature ego stroking, a need to fulfill its own desires of uniqueness and greatness in something, anything, to control and to survive. It's an addiction to the thrill of danger, to the breaking of norms and rules, a fuck-you to normalcy. And Walt so far has been willing to pay the price.

    I think you’re right, Imon, the decent into “evil” for Walt had to start somewhere. As you say it, some part of it must have been present from the beginning. What I find fascinating is that Walts decent started from something many of us have. If you remember Walt at the beginning, his life seemed dull. Boring jobs, spark-less marriage, and low status among peers, were all reasons for this. With Walts cancer, he decided to do what we all would do-“Do the most important things RIGHT NOW. The two for Walt were securing enough money for his family so they would face less hardships, and to bring excitement into his life. I think somewhere along the way he started valuing the excitement part over his family’s well being. In a way, he got addicted to it. Just like his customers were addicted to the product, Walt became addicted to the thrill of danger. I think we have all heard of stories of good people turning into something completely different through the horrors of addiction, we’ve seen it in the show too. The case of Walt is the same, the man he is now is something twisted through addiction. It’s something that can happen to any one of us.

    I think it's easy to write off all Walt's actions as bad, but the fun thing bout the show is that it is nuanced. You mentioned Walt watching Jane die, but had Walt saved Jane then he would had condemned both Jesse AND Jane to die since the show foreshadowed the both of em were going to overdose within a week. Walt saved Jesse, the other choice Jesse and Jane both die.
    I'm not defending Walt, he's done bad things and his ego is out of control right now but he's not all bad or good, his character is very complex and mixed which makes it fun to watch.

    What sucks is that Gus had his laptop incripted so they didn't need to do the magnet they wasted money and time and almost got caught and because they did the magnet thing it broke the picture thay had the bank info in it leading them to Gus's employees account leading them to Mike and his grand daughter's account with the 2 million dollars so now they are after Mike

    most of the people Walt has «killed», have been bad people themselves

    • @MrTambourineMan.
      @MrTambourineMan. ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah but he intentionally chose to get involved with those people and then pushed their buttons to the point they “had to go.” Like if he had not blackmailed Jesse in the first episode to work for Walt and then pushed Jesse to go sell drugs in places Jesse has no rights to, Walt wouldn’t have met Jake or Gus. And when there’s a list and even one of the people isn’t bad, that’s not a good sign you know

    Literally most plans that work in this show are Jesse's ideas that Walt immediately takes credit for or he never actually gives Jesse praise for, even though he says he cares about Jesse like family, yet only treats him like such when it's convenient for him. You hate to see it.

    Walt is a master manipulator. The series starts with him intentionally choosing to use his brother-in-law (who his son looks up to) to get into an illegal business knowing that if Walt is successful he will cause problems for Hank. He blackmailed Jesse. This was never about “his family.” It was about Walt feeling good about himself

    Jesse tells Walter that it was touch and go with Brock. Brock almost died, and there's no way that Walter had any better than an educated guess when it came to how much to give to him.

    • @briangonigal3974
      @briangonigal3974 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      dog-eared But more importantly, whether or not rock lived or died was due largely to factors completely out of Walt’s control: would his mother recognize the seriousness of his common, “flu-like” symptoms & get him to a hospital in time? Would the overworked hospital ER even recognize them and admit him rather then just send him home with some Tylenol? Would she call Jesse, and would Jesse catch on in time to tell them to start treating Brock for poison? Even with all this falling into place Brock JUST BARELY survived, which suggests the far likelier scenario would have been that Brock would have died of “flu-like” symptoms and this, coupled with finding the ricin cigarette missing, is what Walt was really counting on to turn Jesse.

      It may be 4 seasons for the viewers, but the story thus far has barely spanned a year. Season 1 starts off with his 50th birthday, and as of this episode he has not had his 51st birthday yet. So it's still a pretty radical transformation for someone to go through within a year.

    • @iheartTSDW
      @iheartTSDW 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Which doesn't mean Walt was a shitty and mean teacher, I think it's pretty clear that Jesse was a shitty student. We've now seen Jesse apply himself and he's a very capable and intelligent person. I'm sure if Walt sensed a student was trying but failing he would have been much more encouraging.

  • @philmiller5068
    @philmiller5068 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    From what we've seen, Walt has never had an ego problem before he got into the meth business. Walt wrote "apply yourself" to Jesse. There was no tendencies of Walt being how he is now that we've seen until Jane.

    I feel like Walt definitely was always this person, or at least had the potential to be this person, but circumstances and the worries about life held him in check. The cancer diagnosis freed him from any hope of a future and the real him came to the surface
