Absolutely no doubt that this Farmall H is going to be a big time trophy winner at tractor meets and shows if Toby enters it in them.
He'll need a spanking new large glassed in display shelf unit to hold all of them.

Great looking work Squatch! I've been restoring, mostly 1950's Farmall M tractors for more than 20 years now in my retirement. If people only knew, It is the most enjoyable and fulfilling time you can spend daily. IH knew how to build tractors in those days and for the most part you can still purchase needed repair parts to complete the rebuilds. Your videos and Pete's few acres farm Farmall videos are something I look forward to.

They sure didn't take all that care at the factory prepping and painting. Remember numerous machines on the farm with belts and hoses covered in paint and lots of runs. (These were the machines we bought new). Remember the even newer machines in the 1990s at farm shows having paint all over everything, too. Pretty sure they shipped the tractor with the rear wheels dished in, probably many parts in cloth bags for final assembly at the dealer. I'd like to see some factory films, sounds like a rainy day youtube deep dive. Keep up the good work &thanks for sharing.

I really enjoy watching your tractor rebuild videos. My Uncle had all the Farm Tractors restored. Farmall H, 190AC, Cockshutt550, Cockshutt560, 8N, 9N, and a Major. Everyone of these tractors are in a climate control building. They come out 2 times a year. 1st is the County Fair, the other is the Antique Farm Machinery Show. Keep up the videos.

In one of your last videos you mentioned blacking or finishing the axles. I noticed in this video they were painted except where you planning to have the hubs seat. Did you just brush on a single coat of Rust-Oleum? Rattle can? Or something else?
Also, I like the convex rear wheel centers. I have always thought it makes the tractor look more tidy... If that makes sense.

  • @timdwyer8004

Awesome series! I totally understand the wheel spacing goal you have. It just looks backwards to me when the hubs face that way because I only ever saw them facing the other direction growing up. Paint and finish looks great!

@Squatch253 don't sell yourself short on the prototype videos. That is EXACTLY what I want to see. Everything else is good filler. I appreciate the tip on the wheel stands. The best I saw was mounted on an old axle and rolled when painting. I like your method much better. When mounting tires, you could use a rubber wheel chock between the tire and floor as you tighten the bolts. I do that since my prosthetic foot has no feeling, and my other foot is about useless. Just a hint. Also, where do you get your plastic plugs, corks, etc supplies for plugging holes during paint. I've not found a good supplier for either.

Thanks for what you do for all of us and keeping your tractors up and running. Preperation H is more than what you thought but it was good because you did find a major issue and addresed it. Lastly, have you considered doing any videos on the Ferguson tractors? I’m not taking about the Massey-Ferguson ones, rather the ones he produced with his own company after he split with Ford, like the TO-20?

Looking for an alternative for variprime and I read that many epoxy primers will not adhere to variprime.
Don't know if true. Just FYI
I guess you will find out with that engine. Hate to see you not only have to strip off the top coat paint, epoxy printer and the variprime off after it begins to flake off after a few years.
Maybe to be safe I would remove the variprime before spraying the epoxy primer so the whole tractor gets equal spray treatment under the law.

@@squatch253 although in the 40s, coming from the horse era, 40ish inch rows were the norm because of the size of a horse's behind to travel down the rows for cultivation. 1960s 30 inch took off as popular once yields were shown to improve and the horse farmers were almost gone. You could still get planting and harvesting equipment in wide 34, 36, 38 rows into the 1980s. Some traditions die hard. I believe cotton still is grown in wider rows but the corn and soybean belt is definitely 30 or narrower.
