Love the shot of the little monsters embroidered on your waistcoat. Your work is so interesting and I really enjoy 'show' rather than 'tell format. So aesthetically pleasing.
FYI, I am convinced that you would impress every surgeon with your technique. Completely seriously, and speaking as a physician who has sutured wounds and observed many surgeries, I can tell you that your technique is stellar.
Just looove your little monsters! They are very similar to the ones in Jeroen Bosh's paintings but cuter! Great technique and love how you 'draw' the shading of the body! Also great on the waistcoat! I recently discovered your channel and love everything I've seen until now, eventhough I'm not a man and couldn't wear anything you make. Keep up the good work!
I really love these little creatures, they look like they wouldn't be out of place among medieval marginalia. And this video's really made me want to go do some embroidery, so I might finally get back to working on that oak leaf skirt I've been putting off... so thank you! Also, would you ever consider maybe doing a video on embroidery basics? (no pressure, just wondering) I really love the look of it, but find anything beyond blackwork somewhat intimidating
Your little squiggly monsters look suspiciously like the little critters that make up Skexish writing in the Dark Crystal! I really love them. I wish I had the patience & dexterity to do such things - I'd probably embroider little dragons onto everything I own.
I really need to draw that design up full size sometime! I've already made 2 pairs of pockets that I never use, but someone should make the monster pockets exist...
This is a genuinely lovely comment thread I can imagine a small club of members only known to each other by their visible monster pockets as they walk down the street
Thank you!! I was trying to keep it more interesting and varied, and figured it would be neat to see it backlit so you can tell where all the threads are.
This is so wonderful to watch one of your creatures come to life. The video is very relaxing to watch and I love your choice of music. Also, thanks to you showing how you gently pull the embroidery thread from its bundle, I've figured out how to not get it a tangled mess when winding thread onto a bobbin!
Thank you! I used to take the little bands off embroidery floss and have a hard time not getting it tangled, but then I saw instructions printed on the bands of some old floss from my grandmother that said not to do that, and to just hold them and pull the floss out from the middle.
I have been daunted by the idea of any sort of shading. Starting with blackwork monsters may be the answer! This video makes it seem easy and reminds me to go slowly and pick a design I really love 🥰❤
Go, Vincent! And belated Happy Birthday! This is so calming in these weird disconcerting times. I love watching the process of monster embroidering. Merci! C'est formidable!
Your mini monsters remind me of the creatures a cartoonist drew of the bacteria in water through a microscope in the early 19thC . Was it in Punch? Your back stitch is meticulous. Black and Red 815 or 816 are my favourites to stitch. I’ve done a few classes. My poor tutors… what I do remember is that a good embroiderers work is almost as neat on the back as the front. I know YOU qualify! You are very inspiring, I may have to design my own little critter. ☺️
wow, this is so fiddly and impressive! it feels like you could have used a similar process filling in the body texture in embroidery as you did when drawing it in ink - almost sketching in thread
I remember seeing your embroidery on instagram so to see a piece come to like especially when it's a cute mystical creature it's amazing. Especially, when it's time to do the eye. It may have not been close up but when the eye comes in view it brought the creation to life.
Thank you! I'm thinking of selling some of them on etsy, though I also have one framed on my wall and I'd love to get some thrift store frames and hang up a few more of them.
I really love this video, it is so relaxing! First of all, you make it look so easy when in fact is suspect it is really not. Secondly, I love the monster very much, it has such a good happy energy to it, despite/because of it being in black on white. Thirdly, I love your nails. And a question about the creative process, do you usually listen to music while embroidering?
Thank you! Usually while I'm embroidering or hand sewing I put on a movie or show I've seen before, or a youtube video with a lot of talking, so I can listen but keep my eyes on my work most of the time. I do listen to music while working too, but mostly just for machine sewing, that way I can listen to it on my i-pod with headphones and it blocks out a little of the machine noise, and works better with all the moving back and fourth between the table and the ironing board. I've also recently discovered that there are a lot of free audiobooks online, so I think I will try listening to those while hand sewing sometimes too. Just found the entirety of Les Mis on youtube and WOW is it ever long, I could hand sew an entire waistcoat and still not be all the way through.
I love your nails! But what job do you have that they don't break? I can't keep mine nice for more than a few days before they tear off. It saddens me.
I'm a tailor! My nails break sometimes, usually in the winter, but not very often. I have to have 3 of them short all the time for sewing with a thimble though.
@@vincentbriggs1780 That explains why your stitching is so beautiful! I don't have anyone to teach me so I downloaded sewing primers from the 1800's and am trying to perfect my stitches. I do NOT have the knack yet, lol Did you go to school to become a tailor?
@@saltywench Yes! I took a 2 year fashion course in college where I learned pattern drafting and sewing, but it was all modern, so I've had to learn all my historical things from books & the internet, and a lot of trial & error. I've been sewing since 2011, so the main reason my stitching is neat is because I've had 12 years of practice! Good luck! You will improve with time!!
@@vincentbriggs1780 Have you tried one of those thimbles that has a slit in it for your nail or one that is goes over the tip of the finger and is open in the back? I love my long nails and wondered if these were as good as they looked like they would be.
I have always had long nails but used to have problems with the nail layers peeling and the nails tearing at the side. I started taking the nutritional supplement Ostinol for my bones and joints and found that my nails also got very strong and healthy. I have to cut them because they get too long. Perhaps it would work for you. I don’t work for Ostinol or anything, I just found it really helpful with my knee pain and nails and thought I would share the love. 😄
I enjoy your little creatures greatly, and the shots where lighting allowed both sides of the thread to be seen were aesthetically pleasing as well as providing valuable information about thread placement. You've given us a lovely video of a Little Guy and the technique that went into its... creation? hatching? rising fully formed from your brow?
Love the shot of the little monsters embroidered on your waistcoat. Your work is so interesting and I really enjoy 'show' rather than 'tell format. So aesthetically pleasing.
Yes! I would wear that waistcoat every day! Such a great time crossover/ bit of gothic piece!!

Omg, that waistcoat!
Waistcoats are the concert t shirts of the late 18th cent., and you nailed that.
ohhhhh, monster pockets! How delightful! and Look at all the little creatures you've made!
Just discovered your channel. Love your monsters - they're so unique and not scary at all. They'd be great printed on yardage.
He has an account with Spoonflower fabric. I believe there are Monster Friend prints available. 😊
Commenting a second time to gush about that shot from underneath the hoop with the light filtering through. So aesthetically pleasing!
Your monsters are so adorable and fun, they really made me smile!
You're waistcoat is absolutely fantastic!!

Love this and your channel!
Monster pockets, ... pocket monsters? Pokémon but make it crafty? Yes please!
Oh my God, I love the sea monsters on your vest!

I thought the same thing. They had that feel but less scary.
monster pockets! MONSTER POCKETS!!

This was so nice and calming to watch💚 I love the little monsters so much!! Thank you for the video and the peace it brought me. :)
I love the one with four legs, looks like a medieval depiction of a crocodile.
Gah, I love your monsters so much! And those monster pockets are SO CUTE! ❤️
Vincent I loved watching this so much! Your monsters always make me smile and this is such a great way to show them. Your shirt is to die for too 😀
woah, your nails! and your embroidered clothes! you make me really wanna try embroidery too..
Your embroidered clothes are amazing!!
Your cinematography is delightful. :) :) :) The shot from underneath was unexpected and cool!! :D As usual, you create lovely things.
