I am Latino, but dancing is not the same to teaching in the Nordic countries how to dance Salsa, Bachata or Cumbia. Your videos definitely give me a better understanding how to be a better Latin Dance Instructor !!!! GREAT VIDEOS !!!!!
Thats a best compliment I can get. Everybody tends to put on our cultures that we are this or that, I say it's amazing you are emerging in learning and exploring 😉
I never understood why some leads would be looking around at other dancers while they dance. I always thought it was so arrogant but now I do it too when I'm not enjoying a particular dance. It's either that or disassociate for the rest of the song(jk). I'm not an expert or anything but bad frame is a huge one for me. It limits so much of the partnerwork that can be enjoyed. It wouldn't be a problem, it's just that the dancers with bad frame tend to be very lazy with the other aspects of their technique.
Thanks for the great advice, top notch as usual. I'm a leader and these tips are spot on. All the points you talked about are vital but I'm glad you talked about the basic step. I've seen many good dancers who fail to advance (myself included) until they get the basic right. Were I dance the noodle arms problem is very common. As a leader it's not my place to correct or teach other dancers, I just do my best so that every dance is fun and comfortable for the follower and hopefully has good musicality, so it's great that video's like this are out there to help!!!
Rasa, can you talk about leaders also? That leaders don’t always connect with followers, but want to show off all their dance moves and spin the followers a thousand times. It is not enjoyable so I don’t social dance as much because of that fact.
th-cam.com/video/6bqtEblsPqA/w-d-xo.html I made a lot actually, this is just one out of many 🤣. And you are right there are a lot of that as well, but there is a lot of nice ones as well, don't loose your passion for dance 💖
I've seen some videos from you and I am a leader. Much quality content overall. Now I can give something back. Women want to stay in sync in turns. At the beginning some women use their bizeps too much, because they want to turn in sync. But (that is my opinion) 90% after a turn the arm will be stretched out. So my advice is to use the latisimus musle in turns. It is the musle under your shoulder, when you lift a heavy box. That keeps you in sync. In other words think in turns your uper arm direction more to top and use the latisimus musle most, beside the other musles (bizeps, trizeps) less. I tell this women and they can fix it sometimes immediately. They don't know why other men can't dance with them. Some evening I made a followers day (or evening) and she was having fun the whole night. Most teachers don't say this and I don't know why :)
Hey there, it means that the action of the leader starts and ends with the reaction of the follower. At the beginning when the leader turns the follower, the arm of the follower goes with the whole body as one part and turns. To be able to do that, the folllower has to use the latisimus most and should think with the direction of the arm more to the upper direction. Trust me you can stretch your arm without using the bizeps. That's why I say think more to the upper direction.
Hi Rasa great vid, thank u, i am only early improver but find some followers who know a little bit more, lack patience or try to lead the dance which is really offputting, simetimes the teacher calls them out but if theres too many in the class he wont notice, should i just shut up and put up until im better?
Everybody has their own mountain to climb. Not our job to say smth. Cause if everybody keeps telling everyone what they think it will be madness 😅. Just focus on what you need to do and as confidence grows, you will be able to take control more. You can sometimes say smth like "do you mind if I try to do this myself please ". 😉
These are the mistakes. But to teach those, teachers need to repeat them at the Beginning of the class, at the End and once in the Middle. And then Call their phone outside of dance class hours and remind again... Repeat this at least for a whole month or two... than may be the once who don't get it will get it finally
Your videos are saving me. I wish you traveled to Los Angeles bc I would sign up for your class in a heartbeat!
@@user-br3xs6hz2b I actually was there once, really enjoyed it, hopefully will get a chance to go again 😇

That is true, the good thing is that you are aware and maybe can find a reason to be engaged otherwise what's the point of the dance ? 😉

More fantastic, practical tips and so well explained! Xxx

I may suggest followers expecting the leader to make them stay on time, and/iecstiff shoulders.
Yes they shouldn't expect that, good point 👍
What do you when you have a lead that’s too forceful? When the push or pull is too forceful it throws me off balance and I tense up.
You can always nicely ask for them to be softer 😉. Your safety is priority, those kind of leads an easily hurt us 😢
