I said this very thing to myself earlier. He has nearly a full bus build in his videos but I would love to know Chuck’s takes on this daunting part of the build
Good points Chuck. I'm a retired RV Tech building my flatnose /home and one thing I've learned from experience is there is no excuse for mistakes .... LoL , ya right . Yours are really minor. I call my costly mistakes " R $ D " and believe me the greens stack up fast.Soften up that foam on your rubber with Wd-40 and it will chip away faster.
Question for you Chuck - since you moved your gray tank inside the frame rails, how are you getting the gray water to it? I have the same 7 window Thomas, and am considering the same location for my gray tank. As always, thanks for the helpful advice and honesty about what it really takes to build a skoolie!
Great video! Most of the little things that bother you would likely never be noticed by someone else. I often have to remind myself to not let perfect get in the way of good.
That propane box you can change to a smaller clean water box maybe so you could add a shower in the bus and maybe add washer/dryer depending on how much water/power you have for your bus. I've seen it in another channel, someone else added washer/dryer in addition to shower, etc. Basically, it's a house with wheels. So if you have heat/AC / kitchen / bed then you are completely done. Regarding the water issue if you design a way to collect rain water then just filter it via reverse osmosis then you won't have to constantly fill fresh water all the time.
Chuck.....I spent 30+ years of my career in Sheet Metal Trade..... as an Apprentice I had a Mentor who told me this..... "If you were Perfect it would be your House that I visit on Sunday Mornings!" he had a very valid point!
thank you for sharing your things you would have done better. makes me feel a little better about my build. sorry I haven't noticed your slacking on the live streams cause I'm busy too... sometimes lol
Bus still looks stellar. When you mentioned the hydronic heat running off the engine coolant though, my heart skipped a beat. That would make winter travel a breeze.
I was curious about radiant floor heat and possibly looping it into the engine coolant with a thermostat cutoff. Keep it toasty while going down the road. Then have a secondary pump with alternative heat source for when the motor is off. 🤔
Dang that was kinda therapeutic for me😂 just finished my first conversion and I just had to accept at some point its hand made its not gonna look like manufactured stuff
I've had those same headlights on my van for over two years. Don't worry! Not a lot of miles, but still they're great! I've been telling people to buy them. I thought about the clear protection film, but I didn't do it.
Are you going to fit a reverse cycle inverter split air con? That would be a quick and efficient way to heat up (or cool) ur bus, but a hydronic circuit would have been nice for using ur engine heat in cold areas while travelling. Cheers
I bought a new 2012 corolla.I figured thst the headlight housings would get really beat up.I went to my window tinter. He put clear 3m protect film on.2023 no haze no breakage or dings
All things I’m sure i have done as well lol Well all but the wire split extensions 😂 CHUCK !! 😂 but i did forget heat shrink on a shielded temperature sensor extension the other day and decided to add a few wraps of electrical tape vs cutting it out and doing the 22g foil wrapped crimps all over 😂😂 Love the honesty and humility! #chuckstillrocks
12:30 could you take a set of glass sealed bean bulbs to a stained glass artist or a tile installer and have them cut the front lens out to make you a replacement for the plastic lens? I've done this for Jeep Wranglers and Harley Davidson motorcycles. ☮️❤️🌈
Always great content! One suggestion, maybe consider using less video cuts in the talking portions like at the beginning. It seems to skip/jump around quite fast and is slightly distracting. Stoked for the next video! Thanks for all the helpful info! Pateron is a good idea, headed over there now. ✌️
So I’m about to convert a bus into a mobile tattoo studio. I need help with some things mainly solar if needed and or if so how much do i need. Or should i just run converters ?
If I were you, I would have as many energy possibilities as possible. You might need it some day. I think wiring should not be before the spray foam so that if you need to get to the electrical wires you can. Also, no one is perfect and never will be. We all learn from our mistakes, so that is a good thing. I would put a heated hallway and heat underneath your bed with the diesel heater and the batteries. What do you think?
My story is worse🤦🏻♀️i side swiped a pole in front of a CHP (basically police station) where I was making a tight right turn into their parking lot with my 40' to get VIN verification service from them. They didn't say anything but when they called me back they told me next time I should come from north on the street and make a left turn into the parking lot instead 😂 No incidents since..🤞🏻
Some of these mistakes have exposed a flaw in your overall design. You need wiring chases down the length of the bus. Ideally one 2" in the roof and one down each side. Spray foam is such a permanent solution that it makes any future changes a real pain. Imagine how much you would thank yourself when you run that new A/V, solar, PEX lines, ethernet, whatever.
Recalling the audiophile mantra. Buy cheap, buy twice. Relative to your headlamps. As I look at my frosty, almost can't tell they're on headlamps. Granted 18 years later, for a $12,500 car (NEW). My moms car, which is actually two years younger, is actually worse.
I would say only do r&d if you plan on doing something more than once from start to finish. If you want to be one and done in most cases diy is not for you. Or at least not worth investing all the money and time anyways for project such as these or working on your own cars.
Chuck - Elon or NASA ought to hire you to fit out the interior of the living spaces of rockets going to Mars. I'm sure every passenger would be happy to live in your spaces. You deserve another margarita.
Can you do a video on bathrooms and how you guys do showers?
I second this I would love his take on the bathrooms! Best videos on TH-cam for this type of content
I said this very thing to myself earlier. He has nearly a full bus build in his videos but I would love to know Chuck’s takes on this daunting part of the build
this has got some great lessons learned and design considerations
Even with your mistakes I feel the "Chuck Cassady" way is still the best. Glad your part of the community.
thank you!
Thanks for sharing that, Chuck. Good to see the real side of things!

Well said! R&D can be expensive ;)

Awesome video as always. There's always things we should have done. Thanks for looking out and heads up fo the rest of us.
Great video! Most of the little things that bother you would likely never be noticed by someone else. I often have to remind myself to not let perfect get in the way of good.
So true!

i know!
Another great video! Thanks for always sharing Chuck!
Thanks again!
Very enjoyable, thanks for taking the time.
Hey, I finally get to see one of these LIVE! Woo Hoo! OK... 10 more minutes... 😃
I was curious about radiant floor heat and possibly looping it into the engine coolant with a thermostat cutoff. Keep it toasty while going down the road. Then have a secondary pump with alternative heat source for when the motor is off. 🤔
love your style and honesty
Good stuff. Way to pop the bubble in my head of your perfection with builds 😂
Thank you! Cheers!
At least, you're honest enough about not "covering your mistakes up with cheap white paint" like some other people. lol
Oh Chuck, now that’s not so bad. You still got one mean machine!
oh yeah, we will be fine :)
Thanks Chuck the bus looks great anyway remember cheap is expensive and expensive is cheap
Very true
Love the content, and appreciate the humility and humor. Thanks for sharing what you do.
Just FYI - neither of your consultation links appear to work.
thanks for the heads up! should be fixed now
Chucky baby!!! Put expel PPF on your front lights! Protect tarnishing and scratches 😊
Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for sharing Chuck!
My pleasure!!

you can get the same paint made and put into single use spray cans.
You can put headlight protection film over the headlights to prevent scratches
gonna have to pick some up on amazon!
I side swiped a pole at a gas station too! 🤣 first time I ever fueled up. I learned to access gas stations’ access before entering.
its a great club :)
Maybe get a small sheet of clear PPF for your headlights? Would make it last a good while and could be replaced when it gets scratched up.

Dude the struggle is real! Thanks for watching brother!
Love the color on your bus!
Me too!
I just caught a glimpse of it but is the drivers window an original bus window? If so any plans to change it?

Have you ever done an eagle provost or MCI ?
How are you doing the hot water without propane?
Dude, thank you so much for this video.
My pleasure!

6:22 Any reason not to run the wiring for that camera system UNDER the bus?
What would u sell this bus for as is with work done to it? Love ur style bru!
Thanks man, i feel much better about all my fails! ha ha!
Thanks for sharing, good information
Glad it was helpful!

Perfection is highly overrated. I should know. I'm always overrated. 😂😂😂 Have a great week!
I feel so much better now. 😆

hahaha thats an incredible story
You should be able to dissolve that spray foam off the seal
Bro your gold. Calling yourself out lol
Love this
Don’t worry, Chuck. We learn more from our failures than from success. (Edited to correct my mistake.😋)
Nothing wrong with doing things the right way, right? Better than getting stuck on the road in the middle of nowhereville. :(
My manufactured 'bus' has sideview cams and I still use the mirrors.
i feeli like i trust mirrors more haha
Plus, looking to the center dash area into a screen just seems so unnatural lol. @@ChuckCassadyYT

Gasoline may remove the foam from the back door seal.
I vote yes on the propane firepit! 🔥
agreed
dents and bruises = Memories and Battle Scars

What's the other key fob you wish you might have installed? Asking for a friend 😅
dont know but ive seen some around
You need propane for the Otto Wilde grill.
Was promised a solar quote. After the initial consult… crickets. ☹️
take a peek in your inbox, you should see a reply!
@@ChuckCassadyYT Thanks. Replied to the reply! 😃
New intro and exit with the sneeze drives me nuts.
its working!
I feel a little bit better about my bus
Hey Chuck I am a Regretlyss followers.

It actually starts at the beginning
god so chuffed
Honestly chuffed
Death trap homie.

hahaha that would be wild
Well look at Chuck loosing some weight. I need to do that too
it feels good!
yeah man, all electric for the win.
Wait! What? Turns out you’re not perfect? How human of you, Chuck 🙄😀
