I checked it a few hours ago matt & the total cost was £197 return, did u stay close to the airport ? As i'm a spotter myself i'd love to do a trip to russia sometime
two questions: why in mid winter? surely at least spring would of been better; and: do you know why BA are sending such a thirsty plane as big as a 744 on a comparatively "short" flight? i would of thought a 767 would be as big enough for that flight, 777 at most i would of thought; also i noticed last year they changed the flight no's too to more similar to trans Atlantic (23*) as opposed to trans european (87*), also the outbound flights are odd numbers, even numbers on return, when it used to be the reverse...interesting none the less
Why not mid-winter? Much more exciting seeing the weather at its most extreme. If there was no snow & it was mild I'd have been disappointed. 747's are used for their capacity & availability.
Hi Darrell. While even an Airbus A320 can sufficiently cover the distance between London and Moscow, British Airways decided to place a 747 on the route due to heavy premium demand they had been receiving. From what I understand, there are a decent amount of business folk, particularly a growing amount on the Russian side, that travel frequently between the two cities, and the premium cabins in the 767 were not large enough to keep up with demand. Therefore, roughly over a year ago, British Airways introduced the 744 on the route in an effort to offer the most competitive premium cabin on the route. Hope that helps!
Because an A321 can't take as many people. Size of the aircraft has nothing to do with the distance it flies. If its a busy route, they'll use a big plane.
Its not about the longer the flight the bigger the aircraft - its all about the demand for the flights, and it so happens that there is quite a big demand for flights between London and Moscow. So rather than send two smaller aircraft a day, they just send one big one instead since its cheaper. They also use a 767 for this route too :)
ruairi mccormack Yeah distance has nothing to do with it. If they can fill a 747 they will send one. Rather than 3x A321's or something. Thai Air use 747's from Bangkok to Phuket which isn't even an hours flight. Because its a busy route. Lots of business! Less people want to go to Fuerteventura, its not a business destination like Moscow is, its purely holiday tourism.
+andrew wright There is no 747 domestic version. The 747 comes in a 299 seat layout and a 345 seat one. This plane is the 299 seat layout, with world traveller plus in the back. The latter one has it in the front. I did NOT make this up. I got this information from britishairways.com. Now that's what I call a gorgeous night arrival into Heathrow!
Simply gorgeous!! The small little lambs in the middle of the canbin,s ceiling make this class a very special cabin-atmosphere.
A great video. I always loved flying on 747s.
This video is extremely interesting.

I checked it a few hours ago matt & the total cost was £197 return, did u stay close to the airport ? As i'm a spotter myself i'd love to do a trip to russia sometime
777cpt . Remember its over £100 just for a visa.
Was'nt aware of that, thanks for the heads up :)
How can this be if the full flight fly almost 4 hours??
Next adventure?? I prupose to Romania from Heathrow to Otopeni.
No de icing? Must’ve been very dry . I know all about flying in winter conditions here in Canada where it can get as cold as Moscow.
British Airways is founding member of Oneworld with American Airlines, Canadian Airlines (discontinued), Cathay Pacific and Qantas
why are they using a 747 on this route?
Great video, how did you manage to get into Club World for the departure when you had an World Traveller ticket?
Awesome video! How did you manage to switch seats?
Heathrow to Los Angeles plz
To which airline belongs the big blue plane on the left side at 04:30 ?

You seeing the Oneworld Logo
Why a 747 on a short flight like that you could use a 767 or A320/A321 or a 737 at least
because it is very popular business route. Most of the time the flights are full even on 747.
ya just like the aer lingus service from dublin to malaga in summer. its operated by an A330 to cope with passenger demand on package holidays
Nice report man do you speak Russian
It looks easier to film backwards than forwards
You see Emirates Boeing 777-300ER to Dubai-International
You see Transaeros
Why did British airways use a 747 why can’t they use an a321 to Moscow nice video though do you speak Russian
Because an A321 can't take as many people. Size of the aircraft has nothing to do with the distance it flies. If its a busy route, they'll use a big plane.
Can you explain its a 747 from heathrow to moscow but a 737 from manchester to fuertaventura which is like a 4 and a half hour flight im confused
Its not about the longer the flight the bigger the aircraft - its all about the demand for the flights, and it so happens that there is quite a big demand for flights between London and Moscow. okay thanks i was a bit confused

ok thanks so if people wanted from newcastle to london airports if there was enough demand it would be an a380?
do you work for an airline rachaelmatt?
in club world were you sat backwards?
Yes I was sat backwards for departure.
You moved to bussiness for free?
I love the Boeing 747 800 iv always wanted to fly on a 747 I never been on a 747 Al iv been on is 737 a319 757
i know I'm over 2 years late but all I've been on is 2 A321s (both from airlines that are now redundant) and a Piper Archer lol
ive been on a 777, a330, a321, a320, a319, a318
I Guess you got a couple of nice Russian Passport Stamps to accompany the overpriced Visa, god video as usual.
God.
i have been on a 747-8 a380 c747-8i
Is this the 747 domestic version?
no one of the normal B744..... flights are always full on this rout so they use big aircraft
+andrew wright
