Jamie Foxx opens the 47th AFI Life Achievement Award Tribute to Denzel Washington on June 6, 2019 at the Dolby Theatre. The TV special, AFI LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: A TRIBUTE TO DENZEL WASHINGTON aired on Thursday, June 20, at 10:00 PM (ET/PT) on TNT. Sister network Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will also air the special in October 2019, during a night of programming dedicated to Washington’s work.
Mahershala Ali, Chadwick Boseman, Jodie Foster, Antoine Fuqua, Jamie Foxx, Morgan Freeman, Michael B. Jordan, Issa Rae, Julia Roberts and Cicely Tyson all paid tribute to Washington's life and work.
Additional guests included Ed Begley, Jr., W. Kamau Bell, Joy Bryant, Joel Coen, Richard Donner, Ava DuVernay, Cary Elwes, Carl Franklin, Antoine Fuqua, David Alan Grier, Keegan-Michael Key, Martin Lawrence, Frances McDormand, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Paula Patton, Jay Pharoah, Chris Tucker and Edward Zwick.

He should have won the Oscar no doubt. 'Scarface' however is a horrible movie with an overblown, cartoonish performance by Pacino. Not hating on Pacino. Please see 'Dog Day Afternoon' and 'Godfather 2' and 'Heat' to see how good he can be.

It's truly sad that the only Oscar Mr. Washington recieved was for his portrayal of a dirty drug addict cop. Sooooo many movies he should have recieved an Oscar. I remember when Glory was in the theater, I just turn 17. My dad and I went see at a matinee, when we were walking out grown men were crying. Black and White, why? Powerful film, specially at the end.

Jamie Foxx’s performance as Ray Charles is probably the greatest bio picture I’ve ever been privileged to see. None of us have knowledge of Ray’s private life and conversations, but I saw him perform live and enough times to acknowledge Fox’s amazing capacity as an actor and a musical artist and mimic. Did I say mimic? That’s a disservice.. he embodied the man and captured his essence and soul.

His actions for charity comes from the heart. He does not let Hollywood control him. So that's why I praised Mr. Washington. Not because he's a Damm good actor but because of his character.
