  • I was shocked to learn that in 2024 there are still communities in Nigeria that still reject their children if they were born twins.
In fact as early as 1996 and 2000 twins and other sets of kids were murdered or poisoned in these communities because of their cultural beliefs.
In this video, we sit down with Stephen Olushola, a missionary and the founder of Vine Heritage who is dedicated to rescuing these endangered kids.

@DavidNkwa David, I know that you are a religious person, so I can not say what I really want. Everyone in this chat is talking God bless and Jesus this and that. But no one is talking about punishment for the people that carry out the worst sin in the world, harming children. Because this is your platform, I will not say what I would do to these people, if I were in government, but it would be extremely serious. These are the same people that go to church every week to pray jump and shout. Absolutely criminals.

sorry to say AFRICA'S is STILL BACKWARDS, in this modern day our people are still stupid misguided, misinformed, uneducated where the birth of TWINS are concerned! If this is a norm in some CULTURE, shouldn't there be a MISSION to EDUCATED these people about these FALSE misconceptions? There's a place in Nigeria, not sure if it's in IGBO land where most of women eat a lots of YAMS to produce twin babies, the women in this part of Nigeria welcomes TWINS in their tribes! Africans it's time to educate that village, its SHAMEFUL and barbaric that in this modern times this UNGODLY custom is stiil practise amongst Africans. When are up people going to be ENLIGHTEN? There are so many preachers and teachers of the gospel why aren't they involved in ministering to these tribes of people? The ALMIGHTY expect those who knowledge is given to, should share their knowledge in educating those without such understanding. Its seems like Africans can't do anything on their own, always have to get the European involved in African issues. Why must this man keep sowing his SEEDS like a wild bear if he can't support the children he fathers? EXPOSE this village to the Nigerian community and let them get involve in the education of the villagers

There's even a twin festival in Nigeria. I'm shocked to learn this can be happening in the country that celebrates multiple childbirth.

God bless's this man, and all the people who are involved in this ministry. I can't believe that in 2024 these beliefs still existed. Imagine the thousands of twins, albinos, disabled children, and children whose mothers had died that has been put to death over the years in those villages.... Oh God! Those communities are under some serious curse. However, it's good to save the children and provide home and food for them, but they also need love. The staff should show them affection by hugging and embracing the children. It's not all about discipline and punishment. Children need to be love spiritually, physically, emotionally, mentally, and psychologically. My God bless the people who donate their time and money to this ministry!!!

May the Almighty God bless and protect you for saving the life of those precious children's. In Haiti people respect and scared of twins and triplets children's because they have power and they can make you seek if you mess with them.

I will tell you what surprised me with this. FCT isn't s particularly large state and it hosts Abuja (the nation's capital).
With all the international travelers and exposure to them and the modern world, I would have thought that people in Abuja wouldn't be so tightly bound to their culture to continue with such practices.

The service is incredible but he needs financial and professional support to make the place more a happy place for the children. The land is large enough to have vegetable farming to be self-sufficient and feed the children with more nutritious food.
The Baren compound could have trees and flowers with paved ground to eliminate dust and dirt. plant a lawn for the children to pay in rather than to stay indoors all day as they seem to do now, internally build in wardrobe in every room where the kids could be shown how to be more organised and at all times have tidy and clean rooms. The rooms must have mosquito nets and in particular, the infants and toddlers rooms could have child-friendly motifs on the walls presently is grim and depressing. the children should have a study table in all their rooms. The beds are for sleeping in and not to work on. He really needs professional support and volunteers. Children don't even have decent clothes or shoes, their personal grooming is poor too. The place is sad and grim. I noticed a broken door to a room with no one fixing it. He needs training on how to run such a place. The women working don't even have uniforms. There needs to be training and support given to him ASAP.

Is there a way for other organisations to help him out. Like an art group, gardening group, even the corporate sector?

Just my opinion. I just want to thank you for bringing this to the public domain and also to the pastor for this humanitarian services. However, it is very disappointing that there is no state involvement or regulations in this type of activities.
These children should be given up for adoption to parents who will be obliged under the adoption laws to bring up the children in a family setting. What we are seeing here is an institutionalised setting with the children not having any sense of belonging. It is okay to ask for donations and stuffs but the whole setup will have a huge psychological effects on this children.
It baffles me why orphanages do not want to give children up for proper adoption? Yes there may be bad people, but people can be vetted for character references and made to sign legal documents under the Nigerian welfare system. Civilised countries do not practise orphanages but foster parents in home settings rather than hostels as seen here. From fostering, they encourage adoption to promote growing up in normal home settings.
Maybe orphanages in Nigeria do it for donations and other means without thinking of the psychological impacts on the children.
