I started to play guitar after listening to Slash playing in Guns N' Roses.
It was love at first time :))
Yeah for me it was the "November Rain" video. Slash walks out of church, grabs his guitar, starts wailing in that dust storm from hell!

About aspiring guitarists... Its not just practice, you can have musical geniouses playing 8 hours a day in their basement and they never achieve more than local gigs... Slash had charisma and he also had stage power. His techniques relied solely on the knowledge of scales and not difficult ones at that. His riffs are simple and catchy and some are extremely difficult to perform but not awe inspiring. The reason he was such a success is because the moment slash took up his guitar he outshaded even Axl in live performances. Everything about him, his posture, the hat, a smoke in his mouth signaled rebellion to the young who were, just like today caught up in a loopholes of their life. Seeing someone who does just something he loves all day and doesnt give a single fuck made them believe and dream. And it was all achieved by the presence that was Slash on stage.

What I like about Slash is how he runs through those bluesy pentatonic scales like no one else can. I play guitar at an advanced level and man it took me damn near 20 years starting as a teenager to even begin to run through scales with some competency like in a sense of real freedom with it like I was beginning to really know what I was doing but Slash man he did that shit in probably 5 years and was an absolute monster on guitar in his early 20’s and that’s so cool to see someone just have absolute mastery at such a young age like that.

I’ve always felt like practicing others peoples songs is not what I want to do, but as we see here according to slash it is wise to learn different techniques from others’ music and use that knowledge for your own ideas.

He’s just so fucking cool, I’m 24 and I just started learning guitar last month (I know, I should’ve started way earlier) and Slash is my biggest inspiration, he’s just so cool and passionate and the way he plays almost makes me tear up every time. I’m currently practicing with my dad’s guitar, but once I get good enough and can afford it, I plan on buying my own.

Guitar playing is a journey not a destination. I know the feelings of soaring highs jamming to stuff you love and the lows of being so depressed with it that you don’t even touch your guitar for years at a time. I personally hate to see new players give up too early and never play again though thinking they can never learn to be decent on guitar. I’ve been from literally unable to fret a single note when I first started to playing blazing solos from the songs I love like ‘Paradise City’ and ‘Find the Real’ (Alter Bridge’. I would tell newer beginner guitar players to find songs and albums you love as in your absolute favorites and learn those even if you have to modify it to just open and power chord simplified renditions at first. Also, don’t be afraid to just grab your electric guitar unplugged and noodle along to any album or song and try to pick up the notes from riffs and solos as well as the chord progrsssions and melody lines of the vocals and bass lines all by just playing along with it at a level where you can hear your guitar and the music from the song playing at the same time-don’t play your guitar or the recorded music from the album so loud that you drown out either one as that’s an easy mistake to make as a newbie. Also, hum along to anything you think is cool in a song as that also develops the ear/playing by ear skills. And do a ton of chromatic finger drills and scales to warm up and always be trying to extend your position of your scale playing like don’t just play an E blues rock scale on the 12th fret or 2nd fret open positions but go everywhere all over the neck and in time as you work at it you will be all over the neck with authority and passion man. Slash is the first guitarist I ever heard and saw live in concert gnr was the first band I ever listened to I was around 4 or 5 gnr is the band that introduced me to rock the night I went to there concert which was last year was the happiest day of my life and if I could talk to slash or axl or anyone From the band I would want to say thanks you for everything you did for me growing up

Skill and speed comes later, perfection and methodical pattern comes first.
I would play all day every day if my fingers could take it, but they can't so I can to take 2-4 hour breaks.

How do you remember where the chords are on the guitar and how do you remember what chords go in each song when you have to play so many in a set list. I'm thinking of taking it up but it seems overwhelming and to difficult for me.
Don’t worry about where all the chords and notes are , when you play them over and over they just come naturally and without thinking. It just happens. I didn’t know a thing about guitar a year ago and just started playing basic notes and over time chords. Then you start to learn small rifts. It all comes . You have to crawl before you can walk but just as long as you practice and have fun. Believe me.
