      Seams to be the way with most good brands these days, Saab, Rover MG, plus everything you buy now is just a miss match of other brands as well.

    I bought one in lockdown as a project. High top lwb with genuine 63k on clock, 370 quid.
    Completely solid body appart From a few dents in usual places.
    The issue was it won't rev up untill it's warm and is mega low on power below turbo. Otherwise was all minor stuff. Hopefully get to the bottom of non revving issue soon.
    So far it's not the ECU(had it checked), had a new accelerator pedal and sensor. Changed oil, filters etc. Anyone with any ideas would be appreciated.
    Overall I like it. Considering the price of other vans that aren't any better it's a bargain. Drive surprisingly well too.
    Little known fact but for the first 5 years they where out they where the most reliable van in JD power survey. People love to hate them but I would be 5000k plus to get a similar condition alternative.

    I have an 07 2.8/95 lo-top Maxus the same as this.... It is just startting to go with rust but it was seriously abused by the previous owner. But in 4 years of ownership and everyday use it has never failed to start, never gone wrong.... and for a van they are incredibly nippy, more thasn quick enough to see of the posers in their VWs and Transit customs. When mine eventually goe too far I will be looking for another! Great vans.

    • @CarAddictGarageNE
      @CarAddictGarageNE  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      When you say stating to go, they don’t really go that bad, usually around the steps and inner sills, easy repaired.
      I do loads of work on transit customs and Transporters it’s shocking how bad they are… especially when you consider what people pay for them !!!

      I viewed van today. It was solid underneath. It had issues though. Oil leak from sump. Bad vibration at 35-50mph. Heater only worked on 1 and 4 setting. The rear doors won't lock. Finally airbag light was on. I was gutted. I loved the old skool feel and sound to it

    • @CarAddictGarageNE
      @CarAddictGarageNE  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well if it was cheap enough they won’t have have been big deal jobs, vibration could simple as wheel balance/warped disc, even drive shaft wouldn’t be end of the world…. Sump is trivial what you expect on older vehicles, locks are no big deal, that’s just simply a resistor on the fan pick them up for few quid.
      It’s when you go for Ford or Mercedes and they are rotten and it will cost you fortunes keep welding it up every year, until eventually it crumbles into dust lol.

      All badge snobbery mate, all these new transits and VAG commercials are over priced junk

  • @ianhadfield65
    @ianhadfield65 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If it wasn't for van snobbery these would still be going strong ,they were treated shit because they were cheap but still kept goin. Vastly underated van. Engines are Italian VM motori same engine that is fitted to some black cab taxis and also VM motori make the engine for the diesel Maserati : ) excellent to drive but let down by poor quality seats but easy to swap

    • @CarAddictGarageNE
      @CarAddictGarageNE  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have very little issues with them, saying that we don’t have that many come in.
      Over the last 10 years never seen so much rubbish produced by the so called “premium brands” yet people carry on paying over the odds to buy them, it’s madness.
      Badge snobbery have ended some good manufacturers imo, Proton, Rover/MG, Saab, Mitsubishi (is about to end sales in Uk soon) …. Will be more can’t think of them all

  • @tonyworkswood
    @tonyworkswood 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for a great review, you repeated everything my MOT tester said comparing them to transits. Mine is an ex council 57 same spec van as that one. I love it, what a fantastic engine. I've left a few other bewildered van drivers behind lol. It has a little bit more rust than that one. You forgot to mention it also has two side doors. This is my third LDV van. Would I buy one again? Definitely. Had to laugh, my speedo also zeroed itself out at about 90,000 miles lol. Great spec, younger reg, less milage, less rust, less cost than it's competitors like for like. Tony

      Yeah they are cracking vans I would definitely buy one if a good one come up for sale, I don’t think this one had x2 sliding doors, was just a window cut into the offside, unless you were meaning it was an option that was available.

    Had most makes as a hobby van... Vito 113 was quick but rots, slightly less than Sprinters! PSA vans suffer from mechanicals, Transits are rot boxes, had short wheel and long wheel, couldn't find anything which wasn't knackered.... VW is just about the badge, personally I think VWs are for the unimaginative. On my third LDV, bought an 06 High top minibus two years a go, been used for six years by the Red Arrows and then a School so tested every six months. £600. Great van and goes really well, think the limiter has been fiddled with. There are half a dozen peeps near me running them, have spoken to most, seems people keep them for years! The MV engine is a great motor and found in loads of stuff.... gearbox is a weak point.... Daewoo!

    • @CarAddictGarageNE
      @CarAddictGarageNE  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I totally agreed, find the French stuff holds up very well for rot, but suffer mechanical/electrical issues, rust on transits are an absolute disgrace wouldn’t touch one, totally agree on VW completely over priced rubbish IMO.
      I do like the sprinters after 2010 they got on top of the corrosion quite well.
      But the LDV Maxus is a fantastic van, not without fault but all minor stuff for what they cost it’s a win win

    • @jamesmacdonald3090
      @jamesmacdonald3090 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CarAddictGarageNE Not sure why they get a bad rep from the trade, I think the expectation is a van that will crack 90 with all the toys of a car? Can't really fault mine, standard cheap interior you expect in a commercial vehicle of that age... other than the clock everything works, nice easy van to work on, bit tricky getting new parts but plenty of breakers about... most due to throw away owners rather than beyond repair. Mine is going to have a camper conversion at some point in 2022 and looking to get some better seats... can't stand not having an arm rest for longer trips! Brilliant on fuel.

    • @CarAddictGarageNE
      @CarAddictGarageNE  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All boils down to badge snobbery, yet the over priced “premium brands” are much worse than LDV but the vast majority don’t understand this.
      I would definitely have one if a good one come up cheap.

      @@CarAddictGarageNE Mercedes might have said that they solved the rust issues on the Sprinter after 2010 but believe me they have not. I've seen 2017 Sprinters with rust. Almost every used Sprinter ive seen has some sort of rust. I'd say they rust even more than the Transit.
