Oh my god I’m so jealous you got the Barbaric Tales special! I never see that at a good price! I demand you do a flip through of that comic! Got to go now, maybe I’ll bless you with more of my wonderful insights later.
I can’t seem to find comics as easily on “my comics” as I do searching eBay, but I’m going to try again soon. Any tips? I kind of agree with Jake about the stiffness of the Gold Key comics, but you’re right about the anatomy as most of Gold Keys artists were very much influenced by the newspaper adventure artists. I’m thinking about picking up more of the Conan comics that came out after I originally stopped buying. I do think they the average issue wasn’t that great, but there was still some gold in there. It’s kind of the same with the Charlton and Gold Keys horror comics. Since our tastes are so similar I’ll let you do the heavy lifting to find the good stuff. As far as the Archie style comics go, I really like Rich Tommaso’s take on that type of comics. My take on the new Savage Sword comics is that there have been some good issues and some not so good. The photo shopping of the T-Rex in that issue is really bad in my opinion.
I heard you guys mention Newbury Comics, and my ears perked up, although I guess there are a lot of different locations of that chain now, I live near the original two stores in Boston and Cambridge MA, so wondered if you guys are local to Eastern Massachusetts by any chance?
The men’s adventure magazines can be a bit frustrating to buy. Many of the stories are mediocre and the supposed non-fiction articles are mostly just made up. But the artwork of course is wonderful. There are books collecting the best of the stories and artwork and I’ve done videos on them.😂
