The Congress of Vienna met in 1814-1815 after Napoleon's defeat to create a blueprint for a peaceful and stable Europe. Prince Klemens von Metternich of Austria was instrumental in laying the groundwork for a conservative order that would last for a generation. It would be nearly 100 years before Europe erupted in another major war of Napoleonic proportions.
This video is intended for students of AP European History and Western Civilization, as well as lifelong learners.

The video is bad. First of the kongress of vienna is 1814 - 1815.
The other part is that it was no "European" leaders at this Congress. Each contry sent a delegate or representiv. You can choose which of those worlds you want to use.
But this video is really bad.

Well the Congress of Vienna was successful in that it kept Europe from having another World War for nearly a century and it did in some part lead to European powers developing into stronger nations that would go on to extend their power and influence over the rest of the globe in ways that are still with us today. So from that standpoint I'd call the Congress of Vienna a positive reset for Europe.

Love the video and you but... of course but..... this seems to be the PG version of history. How is the Holy Alliance not a big freaking deal? We don't need to protect the youth from the sinister tale told by history. They need to know that a small group of powerful people conspire to suppress any form of existent that they can't gain from because history repeats! Very important. Keep the videos coming :)

Oh dear. I wish this dude knew his history. When he speaks of no reparations for France, he's wrong. When he talks of France getting a seat at the table, what does it matter what happened 100 years later? It was common for them to invited to peace talks at the time. Indeed it was essential in Europe.
Please don't listen to this guy. Less that three minutes in and it's already clear he barely understands what he is saying.

I'm 43 and enjoying my bottle of wine here. Also enjoying your videos. I find it's always good to do as much Audio/Video prep work as possible before the heavy duty reading. You can get a real feel for a particular epoch, put faces to the names, get plenty of visuals to help remember all the significant dates and it helps get everything in chronological order. There's so much recent history that's been documented on Audio and Audio/Video with personal testimonials also it seems to help as a reminder that there's always way more than one thing going on all at once with no easy over all narrative or easy answers that explain everything. Quite often there's plenty of events, plenty of confusion and in's and out's that involve so many different groups with so many differnet beliefs it even seems contradictory at times. Love It!! Thanks for the Video's my freind.

well Jesus stated that us regular Joes should obey a just government, the problem arises when governments stray away from what morality and righteousness means for the collective as well as individuals, I believed in democracy as in the rule of the majority for some time but now I incline more to having just laws that would protect all our individual God given rights.

1815 an important date for my region in Germany. The Siegen region is separated from Nassau-Oranien Dillenburg and assigned to Prussian Westphalia (today North Rhine-Westphalia). The Nassau Orange family gains power over the Netherlands and Luxembourg but ultimately loses the German territories. As a result, Dillenburg comes to the region of Hesse. This is how today's inner borders in Germany are formed.
But if you compare today's borders of the Netherlands or Croatia with the old maps, a lot will look familiar.

Britain took a canny role in the CofV. It made sure that the results allowed it to concentrate on trade and the accumulation of wealth at the expense of the other parties whose agglomerations of small states diverted their attention to internal struggles. One example was the Monroe Doctrine whichconvinced the US to prevent European states from profiting from their overseas colonies.

There is one important note that you left out, specifically that the polish territory that had been rewarded to Russia had formerly been Prussian territory from the 2nd and 3rd partition of Poland (they got to keep what they got from the 1st partition of Poland), so Prussia was instead rewarded with Westphalia, the Rhineland, 40% of Saxony and some other territories plus their old territories, which was gonna be important since these areas included the Ruhr Area that became the center of Germany's industry, especially in the arms industry.

Russia always runs away deep into russia and burns their shit. Not very brave are they? Don't really see why Russia gets all the credit if the winter did all the work.

Because winter didn't do all the work. Plain and simple.

France was eldest son of papacy,(& her enforcer,)...papacy had lived by the "sword" of France & also died by that same sword in 1798...

Was the religion of the states in the Holy Alliances all the same? I mean are they all a Catholic or Protestant or Orthodox Christians?

    • @tomrichey
      @tomrichey  9 ปีที่แล้ว

It was a diverse bunch. All three, really, since Prussia was predominantly Protestant.

Sometimes wish I was American or studied US history only. History of no more than 500 years (if we start with Columbus' discovery)... :D

How come Metternich is not more spoken of and well-known in the annals of history as he was such a tremendous statesman? You would only hear of him if you were studying euro. history but not so much in the general media and culture.

Referring to Voltaires comments regarding the "German Empire" is misleading due to Voltaire's death prior to "The Conservative Order".
