    Love them! My old Xp10 / 15hp still loads more power than my newer Mariner 15hp. So much grunt and best sounding 2t by far. 👌

    Those motors are screamers on a light boat. My dad has a 1991 Evinrude 15 and it tops out at 27.7 mph at 6800 RPM on my 14' Lund with an 11" pitch 3 blade aluminum prop.

      Certain models on them old evinrudes were designed to run at high rpms. The late 80s and early 90s are the ones to buy.

    My 15 hp runs about 6300 and I didn't know if that would be ok for long term use?

      @vojomatusenko  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as you are between 5500 and 6500 you ok for long term use.

    I still think these 15's have the best power to weight ratio of anything available today.

      706jim - Yamaha just made a brand new 3.5 HP 2 stroke outboard motor that can be fitted onto the stock motor mount of those dangerously inexpensive Inflatable boats made by Intex, (They're literally 90 bucks and they can hold a 3.5 hp outboard) I imagine that setup with a small adult could yield speeds upwards of 25 mph aswell.. That would be a lot of fun to do get an intex 3 person inflatable and put a new 2017/2018 2 stroke motor with the highest allowed power rating on it and see how it copes

    • @danmurphy1994
      @danmurphy1994 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      706jim Mind you I have no idea what I'm talking about, lol all I know is that this Yamaha Outboard I'm talking about looks like a trolling motor it's that small, and i know that on a 230 pound quad 3.5 horsepower would be enough to get maybe 35-40mph so imagine what a tiny 3.5 ho outboard on a 50lb inflatable would look like?

    Do you think these motors will be ok running that high rpm?

    • @vojomatusenko
      @vojomatusenko  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Specs are 6500 a 7000 according to factory sale brochure from 1978. I know the top should be at 6500 but 300 more RPMs is not very significant difference.

    • @wmkess
      @wmkess 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have a 1992 and the factory service manual for it. For the 1992 the WOT range is 5500-7000 rpms. On my 1648 it runs at 6900 rpms with an 8" pitch 3 blade aluminum prop and just me. Some other 80's models have a max rpm range of 6500. You have seen the video of my boat which is similar to yours if I remember right. 6300 is a good number though, the main thing is to not have it propped so it's lugging the motor.

    • @billyboy8919
      @billyboy8919 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My 1974 Johnson 15hp with the factory 10" prop does 37 KM/H with just me in my 12 alum boat, but lugs badly with two big people. 20km/h.
      I got a 7" prop, and it does 31 with me alone, but 24 with my passenger, which is a huge improvement when loaded. Hops up on plane and skips right along.

    • @vojomatusenko
      @vojomatusenko  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      We'll, according to model number it is 1988 and I think you are wrong.

    • @WarthDader74
      @WarthDader74 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      vojomatusenko There might be a possibility that the actual outboard is from '88, but with a top cover from an '86 on it. I used to own a 15hp from '86 for many years, and it looked exactly like this one. If you check the brochures from '87 and '88, you will see that the decals looks different than this.

      That may be possible, sure the hood looks like from my others 88 motors from the past, but I never looked at them too closely. you may be right and I may be wrong on this.
