I’m so thankful for the “Eyes On The Prize” documentary that I first watched in middle school because it made me thirsty to be more knowledgeable Medgar Evers and the civil rights movement that in the 70’s many were still afraid to discuss...

I am not a crying man. This piece almost moved me to tears to listen to his widow talk about how he left the house and came back again to hug all of them because he knew his death was imminent.
Peace to Harold Dow and my condolences to his family..

My father, who in 1963 worked at Jim Hill High School (just a few blocks away from Medgar Ever's office in Jackson MS, on Lynch St.) would walk over to chat with Mr. Evers about his aspirations for our people on a daily basis.
What stands out in my father's mind is how much Medgar Ever's manner, speech, and intellectual sharpness was exactly like that of our current president Barack H. Obama.

R.I.P Sgt. Medgar Evers veteran an hero of Normandy and Northern France. A fearless leader who fought for what was right. Today more then ever we need heroes
As for Byron DeLabeckwith, you can prey that when he died he was a changed man, but any man whose heart is black enough to shoot a man in front of his wife and children deserves no pity, DeLaBeckwith and those lie him are disgraces not only to whites but to America becaue they believe their skin made them above the law

The sacrifice of great leaders like Medgar Evers has paved the paths of leaders and men of conscience willing to stand for truth and justice. I pray that Black History Month will continually remind us of the heroes and not the “heretic” that limited their time with us.

Medger Evers served in the the UK during WW2. Although the US army tried to impose segregation on black GI's in the UK, it didn't entirely work and, whilst in England, black GI's such as Evers got their first ever taste of equality. I often wonder whether that experience helped sow some of the seeds of his future activities.
No wonder his family are so proud of him!

    • @thejokersonyou
      @thejokersonyou 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

The army was much bigger then. So you had millions of African Americans who came back and had that "taste" taken away....
      aaaaaaaaaand (more importantly)
Were not allowed to benefit from the greatest wealth transfer in World History... the original GI Bill after WW2 giving millions of poor and working class white veterans a) free college education b) no down payments for suburban housing c) low fixed interest rates on homes. Original GI Bill was great for America, it ushered in the growing middle class of the 50s, the dark stain on it again... it wasn't applied to everyone. America was a guilded age run by Plutocrats, prior

Medgar Evers reminds me of a Black American Human Rights Activist named Martin Luther King Jr. that in fact the United States of America, especially those with white skin, know that the American Nation is actually a people of migrants or immigrants from other countries, even the Father of the United States of America who is my favorite President, Mr. President Abraham Lincoln, once stated that equality is not seen from the color of the skin. but how can you accept it with a sincere heart, because there are only two places for equality, namely equality before the law and equality before the god, this is what can make the United States of America progress and develop. so in my opinion Democracy and Freedom are Choices for all the People of the United States in making their choices, determining their lives, determining their respective religions according to Human Rights, I respect black people and also white people in the United States . and it is the story of Medgar Evers that is an inspiration not only for the people of the United States of America, but also for all nations in the world.

Lord bless my people. We need to honor this wonderful man Mr. Medgar Ever by doing better in our community he did not lose his life for us to end this way. Young adults men and women don't you think his life ifs worth fighting for? It is time for us to UNIT as a better group of people and stand upright for those who died for changes for us for you. Y'all are out there killing one another the kkklansmen don't have a lift a finger anymore y'all are doing the job of eliminating one another for them. Im 59 years old black woman and ther little small contribution I gave for you all was not for you all to behave in this diabolical savagery way. We are people intelligents, intellectual, encouraging, motivating, stimulating of multi talented spirited folks, it's far passed overdue that we return to our natural order our humanity order, and our Godly order. IT IS TIME WE NEED YOU ALL TO STAND UPRIGHT. MUCH LOVE, RESPECT, APPRECIATION, VALUE AND ADMIRATION FOR ALL OF YOU THAT ARE ON A POSITIVE PATH AND WE'RE WAITING FOR THOSE THAT AREN'T THERE TO GET IT TOGETHER AND COME ON WE NEED YOU ALL.

Medgar Evers did something greater, and it was bringing forth social change, he try to change unfair mores, he wanted to bring forth change that was absolutely necessary for the country.
I think it is pretty insulting to the memory of Medgar Evers, MLK, malcolm, and Emmett Till to bear hatred against people who have a different color from ourselves. The message they want to give was loud and clear. We are all humans. We need to treat each other as humans, not because of the color of our skin.

The Treaty of Versailles paved the road for Nazism by ripping out the economic entrails of Germany. Get a history lesson before you start comparing a moderate democrat to radical fascists. Or is he socialist? Or Marxist? Or the unholy union of three diametrically opposed ideologies? You Glenn Beckers don't seem to be able to distinguish. No offense

@JesusManson323 Not all of America fought against these rights. But I guess you wouldn't know that 'cause you're some kind of half-literate, quasi-militant keyboard activist. I doubt you know who & what Medgar really was until you just peeped the wiki article. He'd've given credit where credit was due. BTW, the Black Americans that fought were ALSO AMERICANS.
