When I need a sander, that's the one I'll get. Very impressive, thanks Catus

Very nice! When I start doing my RV painting and refinishing project, I expect to need a better sander. This has moved to the top of my list.
I really do prefer cordless tools. But I have the Milwaukee M12 detail 1.5mm orbit sander, so I can sand cordless. And an oscillating multi tool. The price difference on this vs. Milwaukee is pretty substantial. And my RV has electrical outlets on the outside :)
My current random orbit sander is not that great. It’s a corded Black and Decker single speed. But it’s made in the United Kingdom, so I really don’t want to get rid of it :)

That's a great way to think about it, cordless for detail work and corded for bigger jobs.

@@CatusMaximus Actually, you just expressed the idea more clearly than the idea that was in my head :)
I was just thinking of the sander thing as a special case. My preference has always been for cordless tools, cause I'm always out and about and moving around etc.
But for me, converting the idea that you expressed: I can compromise on my intense desire for cordless when I have a smaller / tolerable / functional cordless tool. If I can happily get a small job done with cordless, then I can compromise and get corded for the more thorough / bigger / higher quality job.
I might apply that philosophy to a miter saw. I've been thinking about getting one but wanted a cordless one. Except that I have a circular saw and a cutoff saw. Those can be used to do some of the things you do with a miter saw. Not great, but not "your project is on-hold until you figure out how to get AC power in your Honda Element, by going to your RV and getting the big LiFePO4 battery and 1200W inverter and driving them to wherever you need to cut the thing."
I do readily admit that I occasionally overthink things.

Something quick and easy to see, on a fresh piece of sand paper draw a dot, marker or pencil then turn the sander on you'll get to see how tight or random the pattern is

Does it compare favorably with the Festool, 3M, or Mirka sanders of that type?

Easily for the price, those 3 are the premium brands and they are really nice and very expensive and I do not know if they would last 3-4 times longer even though they are 3-4 times more expensive. This one has a unusually nice build quality.

Most of the Mirka ones come with a Systainer. Some of them have Bluetooth and can track the amount of hand vibration you've been exposed to per day across all the different tools that you use. Lovely features that I don't need :)

My local HFH store never has any good power or hard tools. Most power tools they have are beyond their expiration date and they seem to only have lower grade Chinese tools. Even the building materials are crap

You talked for over 20 minutes without showing the sander actually sanding. I guess thats for another 2.5 hour movie.
