Personally, I would rather get your decor box, as it's more my vibe, right down to the Van Gogh reproduction) though it is *meow* that they removed the knife, as it makes no sense for her to not have it, as for all anyone not into impressionism would know, she could have been whittling.
I actually think buying stuff that you would like better and actually use for that cost or less makes more sense and it still follows the theme, I love your interpretation much better!
You definitely have an eye for design. You grabbed a 'randomly decided' bunch of items yet produced a coherent look that was quite specific to your tastes and requirements. I don't think you realise how difficult it is for most people. That's why designers exist, after all - people get overwhelmed with choice and don't produce a coordinated final look! Aww Alexandra, you don’t have to feel nervous creating a video for us. You absolutely never fail. You’re taking your own money to create a bespoke Fall/Autumn box for yourself. And i think your choices were far superior. Really liked the faux plants & pumpkins. And that glass wine vase was spectacular. That would cost a hood £30-£50 here in the UK. Your choices were brilliant m, well apart from that final picture. That scared me. 😂😂
Agreed, none of this was a fail at all! I'm also in the UK and I was VERY impressed by the wine vase, I'm travelling to the USA this autumn and if I find these shops, I may end up checking another suitcase 😂
I much prefer your take on the fake plant element. I'm pretty sure whoever designed the "burgundy stems" has never actually seen the color burgundy😅 And the little pumpkins look so cute nestled in the rusty red flowers!
I do agree I liked her plants better. Was questioning the pumpkins at 1st but works out in the end 👍 The purple plants that originally came didn't look great as fall. But saw another TH-camr called pink envelope I think. She showed and explained that the picture frame of the cottage and these purple plants go together for a pop of colour. Painting looks lil unfinished and so does plants but together looks really good 👍
Honestly I think “failing” is a good thing in this series! It means the box was very well put together and subscribers are actually getting their money’s worth!
The way that my jaw DROPPED at that marble pumpkin. I LOVE it! And I love the contrast between the two of them. Anyway, I do agree that the home décor box was actually pretty good.

Definitely NOT a fail! I love the recreation of The Potato Peeler (though disappointed get altered it). That black blanket you got in the box would probably be better used as a table cloth or runner, seeing as it's not soft. I use items like that a lot for the entry table or even the top of my old dresser.
I think you did EXACTLY like you were suppose to. You went and got things SIMILAR that you will use in your house. That’s the point. I do prefer some of the things you got in the box compared to Home Goods. This just shows that that’s a good sub box: 😊❤
This was a hard one, the pumpkins from the box were so perfect I'm not surprised you struggled with finding alternatives. However, as usual, your personal picks ended up way better than the box in most casses. My personal favorite is the vase you picked, so much more character and usability throughout the year.
I love these videos! You don’t have to worry about getting everything exactly the same. It kind of shows people a way to create a similar vibe without getting the decor box. It also shows us some of your décor preferences! Which to me is fun!

I love these! They seem like something different and fun for you! You should try this at dollar tree! I was in today and they have SO many fun things for Halloween and fall now that they’ve expanded beyond just $1.25. Edit: The candles are making me nostalgic for the black background and candle ☺️
Wow they just started to raise your dollar store prices above $1. This happened where I lived a few years back . Well hate to tell yah , it’s just going to keep going up from now on. Our Dollar store that originally was just $1 is now up to $5 and still selling the same things!
Little piece of advice for the stabby blanket: soak it in a half and half white vinegar water mix for an hour then wash it and it should be much softer. This is a trick i use for crochet and knitting when a fiber is to course and scratchy but needs to be soft, another way you can do it is soaking it in fabric softener but that can sometimes leave a waxy texture depending on the fiber
Oh Alexandria, you're always so tough on yourself! The reveal at the end was great, as showing all the items side by side really put into perspective how much more "fall" and cohesive your picks were. They looked much better together than the box items did. Though the box's pumpkins were great i really liked your mix and match option too, the stems really did make them look like a pair. Overall, i think you did a great job and i LOVE it when you do these recreation videos

I did not understand the purple greenery until I saw it at the very end displayed in the 'cauldron'. It looked reminiscent of a magic potion bubbling out!!! Also, there is no need to worry about passing or failing with these challenges! We just love to see your style and creativity. 😊😊
It's about finding your preferred styles over what you got in the box. The money amount does not need to be exact because honestly, if I find something I really love and know will have for years, I will spend the money for it. You did a bang up job girlfriend! I feel like the box is just the inspiration for the ‘buy it better’ since what you buy should be more tailored to your own tastes while going with the spirit of the box. Love what you buy rather than force yourself to get something you won’t like or use.
I love the pumpkins, I love the pumpkins that came with the box too, but I love all your recreations. I kinda like all the stuff that came in the box too though, except the blanket, I to am a sucker for a blanket and I can not stand a scratchy one lol. So that would have made me upset lol. 😂
No, it's not a fail! Your stuff is better, IMO. Love the marble pumpkin and I'm not even a fall person! I do like that cauldron, and the box pumpkins are cute but what's cool about it all being different is that you now don't have a bunch of too similar stuff, and all of it can work together. These episodes are so much fun! Actually, this'd be a fun game to play, (not that I get any sub boxes to compare to) and you get paid to do it! Yay YOU, Alexandria!
I think you nailed this! I much prefer what you picked out and think it has way better value, especially the large wine decanter/vase with floral you choose I absolutely love! I hated the boxes version. Also that awful textured blanket they sent, what you picked is functionally and aesthetically nicer. You have a very nice eye for design, I think the pumpkins looked really cool together. If you added more like on a mantel or table center piece with the varying colors it would look lovely!
I hope you stick with this as a series, I think it's super interesting and really sheds light on subscription boxes in general. Like, it's okay to not have a choice on what you want/get things you don't like as long as the price reflects the lack of choice!

I love the pumpkins 🎃 on a stick. Soooo cute. Well Van Gogh started out as an Impressionist before expanding beyond that to post-impressionism. So I think it was a decent effort. Plus I absolutely love Van Gogh. A man before his time.
Those pumpkins from to original box are pretty hard to top, but I like everything else you got better! These boxes are fun to gain inspiration from but it’s great to see you can make it your own at Home Goods, Hobby Lobby, etc.

I love it. You have a great eye for design. As a designer, I was always told if is calling out to you it's for a reason. You never see it until you get home and put it together. Because it is your taste. And even if what you bought on that trip doesn't work, you already own things that will. I love everything you got better.
I don't know abut other people but I LOVE IT when you don't exactly recreate something! The stuff you got seems to bring you joy which is awesome, I LOVE all the stuff you got I also think I might need to head to my local Home Goods soon!

I think my favorite thing might actually be the wax LED candles. They're so cute AND they smell good?! And I know you said you could have gotten cheaper lights at Walmart or Dollar Tree but I feel like those just end up *looking* cheap. I'd much rather spend a few more dollars to get something that looks nice, so I think you did a great job with that one!

The wine bottle looked like a poison bottle to me, fitting in with Halloween. Also, people have been going and getting painting and painting ghosts into them, which you should do to the pastoral painting. Except they've been going to thrift stores to get the painting. ❤
The stick pumpkins and the red foliage REALLY looks cohesive together. If I got a decor box I would MUCH rather get your foliage set vs that saw purplish one

Yes! I think the groupings she did at the end really illustrated that. The Alexandria side looked more expensive and cohesive than the box side, imo

I did not understand the purple greenery until I saw it at the very end displayed in the 'cauldron'. It looked reminiscent of a magic potion bubbling out!!!

The pumkin floral arangement is so cute. It looks like a pumkin patch tucked up in some autum bushes. Great job all around, love that you found things that match your taste rather than recreating the box exactly. This is one of my fav series in TH-cam!

I feel like the box is just the inspiration for the ‘buy it better’ since what you buy should be more tailored to your own tastes while going with the spirit of the box. Love what you buy rather than force yourself to get something you won’t like or use.
I love the pumpkins, I love the pumpkins that came with the box too, but I love all your recreations. I kinda like all the stuff that came in the box too though, except the blanket, I to am a sucker for a blanket and I can not stand a scratchy one lol. So that would have made me upset lol. 😂

No, it's not a fail! Your stuff is better, IMO. Love the marble pumpkin and I'm not even a fall person! I do like that cauldron, and the box pumpkins are cute but what's cool about it all being different is that you now don't have a bunch of too similar stuff, and all of it can work together. These episodes are so much fun! Actually, this'd be a fun game to play, (not that I get any sub boxes to compare to) and you get paid to do it! Yay YOU, Alexandria!
I think you nailed this! I much prefer what you picked out and think it has way better value, especially the large wine decanter/vase with floral you choose I absolutely love! I hated the boxes version. Also that awful textured blanket they sent, what you picked is functionally and aesthetically nicer. You have a very nice eye for design, I think the pumpkins looked really cool together. If you added more like on a mantel or table center piece with the varying colors it would look lovely!
I hope you stick with this as a series, I think it's super interesting and really sheds light on subscription boxes in general. Like, it's okay to not have a choice on what you want/get things you don't like as long as the price reflects the lack of choice!

I love the pumpkins 🎃 on a stick. Soooo cute. Well Van Gogh started out as an Impressionist before expanding beyond that to post-impressionism. So I think it was a decent effort. Plus I absolutely love Van Gogh. A man before his time.
Those pumpkins from to original box are pretty hard to top, but I like everything else you got better! These boxes are fun to gain inspiration from but it’s great to see you can make it your own at Home Goods, Hobby Lobby, etc.

I love it. You have a great eye for design. As a designer, I was always told if is calling out to you it's for a reason. You never see it until you get home and put it together. Because it is your taste. And even if what you bought on that trip doesn't work, you already own things that will. I love everything you got better.

Also it shows realistically what you can get depending on your location and what's available to you! totally not a fail! I love these videos even if they don't match up exactly. What could be fun is if before you open the next decor box you use the budget and the amount of pieces promised and you go and buy what you would want/put in a box!
I think my favorite thing might actually be the wax LED candles. They're so cute AND they smell good?! And I know you said you could have gotten cheaper lights at Walmart or Dollar Tree but I feel like those just end up *looking* cheap. I'd much rather spend a few more dollars to get something that looks nice, so I think you did a great job with that one!

The wine bottle looked like a poison bottle to me, fitting in with Halloween. Also, people have been going and getting painting and painting ghosts into them, which you should do to the pastoral painting. Except they've been going to thrift stores to get the painting. ❤
The stick pumpkins and the red foliage REALLY looks cohesive together. If I got a decor box I would MUCH rather get your foliage set vs that saw purplish one
