    *We purchased this after moving, and previously had a spotlight **Newest.Technology** cam with solar power. The wired pro cam has much better light (about the same as a bright porch light), and the image is significantly more clear with much better details.*

    You might want to check out the Foscam brand of cameras. They are pretty nice for the price, though they do have some issues with quality control sometimes, but I'm guessing that's pretty common on cheap cameras from china. There are good reviews on several of them by a guy called AkwardHamster here on YT

    i have a sricam too. About 1 year on, totally abused it, it somehow stil works LOL. it is built like crap, the images is not that great (but still not bad for such low price) but it does the trick and see's well in low light.

    IP cameras are not secure as many have pointed out

    • @SpockieTech
      @SpockieTech 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correction. *some* types of IP Cameras are not secure, OR, Cameras setup by people who do not know enough networking skills or do stupid things like leave passwords at default are not secure. A good quality camera, setup properly by someone who knows networking is as secure as *any internet connected device is.

    • @sim6699
      @sim6699 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SpockieTech I was simply making a statement not a full explanation.
      I was referring to none internet connected cameras, which can be jammed or have their password cracked. If you want to argue how secure they are because you're an expert be my guest but I will not reply.

    • @SpockieTech
      @SpockieTech 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Simply correcting an over-broad statement. You might as well have said "Internet Routers are not secure". Some are, some aren't. its up to the users skill much more than just the device type. A deadlock is useless if you leave the key in it. IP Cameras *can be secured as well as any internet device, so I just wanted to point that out, that they are not all inherently insecure as your statement suggested.

      +TPAI But it shows that you're apparently using Windows 8 or 10, and have the Avira antivirus software installed. I strongly recommend against that, because Avira is the Apexis camera of antivirus softwares. Under Windows 10, even the Windows Defender app that comes directly with your system has better recognition rates than that p.o.s. software from Avira. Just a friendly advice...

    I've worked with some IP security cameras (IQeye, Axis, Sony IPELA) and many cameras will provide an RTSP stream which is just a live feed of whatever they see. Many NVR applications can simply capture that stream and do the processing of motion detection in the application itself. It's not great for your bandwidth in your house, but it is an option for cameras that have no native support. If you can get a dedicated NVR system for IP cameras, you can use that for your processing and storage.

    Except for that 90EUR one Your cameras are 0.3MP, or course they're gonna have a shit image. I recently bought this on: www.ebay.com/itm/720P-Wireless-Pan-Tilt-Nachtsicht-Uberwachungskamera-Network-2-4G-WIFI-Webcam-/152018808537
    It's relatively cheap, 1MP (720p) image is decent and it can be controlled by Xeoma.
    Regarding security, disable WLAN (or rip out antenna altogether), forget about local storage + a VPN, firewall, seperate VLAN and preferably a seperate vrf will make wonders... :)

    I don't mean this in any negative way, but please don't use the word 'homepage' when you want to say website. We Germans make that mistake so frequently, and when anyone asks me for my homepage, I'll answer 'about:blank' because I like my browser to start with an empty page - and that's indeed the meaning of the word "homepage", it's where your browser directs you when you click on the little house (or "home") icon somewhere next to your address bar. What everyone in Germany means when they say "homepage" is a website, and somehow it's a mistake that is only made by Germans, and I find it embarrassing. So if you want to help improve the mental accuracy of us all, change the habit of saying 'homepage' to the correct word, which is 'website'. Nichts für ungut, ist nicht böse gemeint, aber mir rollen sich jedes mal die Fußnägel hoch, wenn ich das so falsch benutzt höre...

    When it comes to IP security cameras I can only recommend Mobotix, as they have no moving parts, one camera can record an average sized room from the ceiling without blind spots and it always records the raw video, not the part you are currently focused on. The pan/tilt/zoom works via software and the optics are hemispheric, so the recording always contains the whole image and you can pan/tilt in the recorded video. Which enables you to track a burglar "post-mortem", even if the camera wasn't focused on him at that moment. The same applies to motion detection. Since the camera always processes the entire image, it won't be "blind" there either. Only real drawback of these cameras: They're not cheap at all. One can cost easily around 1000 Euro. But you can't just compare them to these "cheapo" PT-Cams that will die quickly, aren't ready for rough weather and rough treatment etc... that would be like comparing a Mercedes S class to a Bobby-Car. :D A _good_ mechanical PTZ-Cam (I did some live streaming with a Sony SNC RZ-25P some years ago) with actual optical zoom will easily also cost about the same as a Mobotix brand... with the disadvantages that they have moving parts and only record what they're currently watching. Not to mention blind spots directly under the camera.

    MAC just identifies the manufacturer of the "network card" inside the device. It can be the same as the real camera manufacturer or it could be different. Of course it´s a good place to start. Also quite often its a single chip solution thus the camera and the network card part are made by the same manufacturer.

    I have two IP Pan/Tilt cameras and both failed on me turning on Motion Detection... One is 4 years old X10's Airsight HD xx59 (crappy camera that I can't even use it) and brand new Sricam SP012 (recently bought and crapped on me. got refund but told me to keep this camera for me to play with). BOTH cameras have SAME chipsets which is "G"rain (actually Grain) branded chipset (Airsight have 8128 and Sricam have 8135) which is ARM 9 processor. They have not changed much. Chipset tend to overheat and crashes. Sricam tech support told me that it have heatsink but turned out it's not when I cracked the case open. How camera failed .. BOTH works fine when Motion Detection OFF and ALARM OFF. Let it runs for few days fiddling around with Pan/Tilt via phone app. It's really cool until I decide to turn "ON" Motion Detection and ALARM (set Email and record to SD card), AIRSIGHT HD did sent pictures to my email and recorded but in a while it crashed and reboots constantly.. SRIcam crashed as soon as I turned "ON" Defence (Motion Detection, Email and ALARM turned "ON" but does not polls until Defence turned "ON"). Funny thing is that I did factory reset Sricam and re-set it back. Sricam Tech support tested my camera and said it's working fine (I provided camera's # and Password). It seem to behave good when Tech support tested it. But when I moved the camera and plugged in. It was running fine with Defence "ON". But flurry of Motion Detection activities (my kids in kitchen) caused Camera to crashed because it was polling Email and Record to SD card that overheat Grain chipset.. I can easily pin blame to flaky Grain chipset. What I could do is to do hacks by using Southbridge cooling fins ripped out from old broken Motherboard and old laptop 5V cooling blower fan and use Thermal glue the Southbridge fins on Grain Chipset (Just simply screw the camera). See how camera handle with such load when Motion Detection set at moderate.. If Sricam works with cooling system installed then I would be able to use it in one room for 24/7. I use my refunded $$ to ordered SRIcam SP009 because it have HiSilicon High Performance chipset. I'm going to see how it handle with Motion Detection. This camera is thin profile and I can easily conceal it with decor. I simply wanted reliable Security Camera to catch who's eating cookies, icecream or food while I'm at work (got sick and tired of kids pointing at each other or scrape goating to toddler who can't reach high cabinet!!). If you want more reliable Security camera that don't craps when Motion Detection Alarm turned on then get the one which is expensive like $500 or more PZT Security cameras (commonly used at Mall or Offices) unless you wanted to hack crappy one. If different branded camera with exact same design and exact same chipset then perhap you might as well try getting Firmware flashed and Camera's UC (user control) flashed after that. I don't have Airsight HD xx59 firmware, I lost it.
    Hey guy.. Lose the glove! Look like you are Mr. Monk who is afraid of germs and dirts

    I would not recommend using an FTP server on the internet, except if the camera can use the SFTP protocol, which is encrypted, and use public/private key authentication with that, so a passwort login isn't necessary. Otherwise, the footage still isn't really that safe.

    I Think an ESP8266, Microwave radar sensor, and arduino or Pi camera with Micropython coding would be a better and cheaper alternative...could be hidden in everyday goods and record to a rasberry pi server with a a hard drive....would be a great project, I can't do...out of my league...still learning....cheers.

    I've just repurposed an older Thinkpad X61 subnotebook I had laying around as a home server. Installed Debian Linux on it, and set it up with Apache and Owncloud for syncing phone contacts/calendar and files etc. - however, even if you're a little bit experienced in using Linux, like I am (I'm using different flavors of Debian and Ubuntu since 2006), it's still a long way to actually being able to secure your system, as in not having your ftp server accessible from outside your LAN, but using SSH instead (which is the same as SFTP). However, despite the limited knowledge I hold, I offer to be open for questions if you need someone to point you in the right direction.

  • @Seegalgalguntijak
    @Seegalgalguntijak 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    A MAC ID or MAC address is normally assigned to each network interface, so the camera should have one for its Ethernet port, and one for its Wifi adapter. If the camera is designed in such a way that the Wifi chip is of an external manufacturer like for example Broadcom, you might even get a Broadcom MAC address with it, but of course the camera isn't manufactured by Broadcom. Of course, with small gadgets like IP cameras, this is often not the case, but with anything more powerful (as in "more computing power, and closer to being a universal computer), you will have this more often...

    Oh, Apocalyptic Inventor, I am sending greetings from the North of England. I have a young name, Michelle, but am 78! I cannot make this camera work at all. I am very into technology and have used computers and mobile telephones, Tablets and now have Sky Q. I have kept up to date with computers and Bank online and Shop online and could not imagine life without the Internet. Yet I cannot get this damn camera to work. Any Advice? Very best wishes from, Michelle (Young name but Old lady, 78)

    I was given a camera and the software disc has nothing on it. There is no Mac number on the label. The disc says "L-Series driver". Are there generic drivers to be had for windows7? Thank you!

    8:25 that's, if i'm not mistaken, five CDK700 telescopes at the Caltech/MINERVA installation on Mount Hopkins, Arizona (inside enclosures) in the top right image.
    Now, that's not out there, but what's cool is the fact that Oxtoolco's Tom Lipton has footage of the installation.
    For those interested on his channel it's "Meatloaf 61 Mount Hopkins parts 1 and 2 ".
    Talk about coincidences, huh.

    I think you're going about this the wrong way. Whilst the argument that "it's complicated" stands, i'd still build my own. As it stands, whilst static (simply because i have a choke point entry) i have a camera i've built myself from parts. Far less expensive and far better quality.
    Heck, with a little internet probing and some help from an electronics forum for the really complicated parts, i could use a phone module and make a really powerful camera for really cheap and bypass all the issues stated above.
    I think this "buy" mentality is a bad thing to have. We need to step out of our comfort zone if we are to get good results.

    Or use the old fashion low tech method of if they think you dont own anything they might not even try to break in..park that huge hunk of junk Mercedes in the drive way wash it off so it looks like your average daily driver all worn out and rusted thru and they might feel pity on you..lol

    I have been working with these cameras for years, trying lots of different ones. Currently, the ones I like most are Tenvis IPRobot3. They are a *fairly cheap (~50Euro) camera that still has a good 720p picture, great nightvision, reliable software that works with aftermarket apps ("IPcamviewer" is v.good) and no security issues (to my knowledge so far) if you turn off the "P2P auto-network feature and do your own network port maps. Use a network cable (Not Wifi) and UPS powerbackup for best reliability. They even work outdoors (3 years no failures so far) if you put them undercover of a cut in half bucket to keep the rain off them. Reliable Motion detection and secure recording is best done by IPcamviewer on a cheap android tablet acting as a viewer/NVR (Network Video Recorder). Im not an agent for them or anything, just thought Id tell you which ones Ive found that work best for low $ after trying many. Very good video, sums up a lot of concerns of people just learning about IPCams well.

    Motion Eye OS is a great build of turning a Raspberry Pi into an IP camera. It's very simple to get started with and gives you several exotic features like the ability to add multiple USB cameras to a single Pi and customisable quality IP streams of any of those feeds. The best performance however is with the built in camera port. github.com/ccrisan/motioneyeos/wiki

    One problem with using infrared cameras to detect burglars is the sensor leak red light. A thief would notice the light and unplug the camera.Another problem is many of the cameras are made for a longer distance than your room. The leds over expose the picture. When mapping automated storage rack addresses with a target only two feet away, the problem was corrected by covering some of the leds with tape.

    Few things to mention, wifi jamming is easier then you might think, I can be done using pretty much any newish wifi module by broadcasting de-authorisation packets. In case when using multiple cameras relatively cheaper to rather get ethernet cameras without any wifi, sdcards, motors etc. and then use some central server to record, send emails and whatever else you like. I myself got good quality 720p30fps IP camera from China for ~20€ with proper thick metal casing and 4x1W IR leds builtin. Rpi2 or even Chinese versions like orange pi has video codecs so they have more than enough performance to process and record videos, although saving them on sdcard is not a long term solution due to write limitations, perhaps usb to pata converter and an old HDD would do better, if you're going cheap.

    a little while ago i took a similar ip-camera apart. the reasom for the spooky startup routine is that positioning works with stepper motors in open loop and without end-switches. (mounts for endswitches where there, but unused). so these cameras drive into the mechanical stop for a preset number of steps to set the zero point. and the internal cameras are USB 2.0, didn't try to connect but measured it with a scope. and i was able to find docs for the board with the "System On Chip": nixcores.com/nixcore_x1.php#documentation

    First, you'd need a router that allows you to set up a port forwarding for at least port 80, but that again isn't secure, so the camera should come with an automatically renewes Let's Encrypt certificate to be able to use https, for which you'd need to forward port 443 to your camera. In addition to that, there are many cameras like these that just stream their stuff openly into the internet for everyone to see. If you think this is a privacy issue, then you should set up a password so the video feed can't be accessed by anyone without authentication.

    although not exactly cheap i have used blastproof lighting fixtures to mount external cameras in.they have metal grates on the outside and are sealed with glass completely from outside contamination.here is a link for an example below.

    Just a clarification: MAC addresses identify the manufacturer of the network card/interface. So the manufacturer you find for that MAC isn't necessarily the manufacturer of the camera, though it can obviously help narrow down the possibilities. All network connected devices have a MAC(or should by standard) address but usually don't display it on stickers since it's useless to most end users.

    I just purchased one and am returning. Read reviews of the apps, they are poorly designed and don't work. Hardware might be fine for the money, but I'd let someone steal everything in my house before I'll use those apps. These are all cheap novelty toys and not very useful.

    I'd rather install a Raspberry Pi with the dedicated camera in some kind of enclosure taken from a broken cheap camera or even fake ones. It wouldn't pan and tilt without additional microcontroller, but the quality is much better for the price and you can run a server directly from the camera enclosure.

    I put up those cheap cam. Many of them. I prefer using app like ip cam pro and use it with the arrows so I just keep pressing and the cam will go in the direction that I chose. But before we have to create a port in the router page. I prefer this way so it’s private, it does not connect to a server. Just type the Internet address and the port number and that’s it.

    the mac address may also just be the discrete phy used and not the manufacturer of the camera. most of these companies do not make their own silicon. they just integrate components and create software for it.
