Great video, nobody talks about the Transverse Abdominal or pelvic floor muscles in singing! I have a long list of questions, sorry in advance: - How do you do deep 'abdominal' breathing whilst using the Transverse muscles? I recently was told to just completely relax my whole stomach, creating a pot belly and swaying my lower back, and I felt that I breathed a bit better, but my posture suffered and I felt very tense the next day, not to mention that I looked like all my ab strength had disappeared and I'd put on weight overnight. It must be possible to retain my small waist and be a singer, surely? :-) Would you have any input? - I'm a classical vocalist, but I absolutely adore pilates, and I'm used to using my transverse and pelvic floor for postural support, but when I sing it seems like I can't use that support because it limits abdominal breathing, even though I'm feeling solid enough in my posture that I feel I can actually support my singing if I engage my transverse. I guess I'm struggling to reconcile the different things said about breathing in voice and pilates, since if your transverse is engaged, you tend to do more lateral or 'back of the ribs' breathing, which makes me feel stronger posturally, but doesn't seem to line up with the 'deep lower stomach' breathing of traditional breath technique for singing. Could you give me any info or recommend anyone/thing to help clear up this confusion? - If you can see I'm missing anything on how breathing for singing works, please fill me in! :-)
