When my kids were younger we had a bag that they would put the wrapping paper in as we go. Makes cleaning up so much easier. That was alot of work for one person. Its good to get the family on board with helping to clean up. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. Always look forward to your videos.
I definitely agree that the other family members , even the husband, can help. NOT everything mummy has to do

@@leeheongow8014 I couldn’t agree with you more! I wish I would have done a better job of training my children. They are adults now and I did them a disservice by doing everything myself.
I think she probably let them leave the mess so she could make a video cleaning it up.

I def left the mess for the sake of the video. ❤️But they did clean up all the toys and take them to their rooms (minus those tiny pieces 😅) but I am def making sure my kids take on responsibility around the house because I didn’t do a great job in the early years with that with my hubby. He’s spoiled rotten and he knows it 😆😅 but I want to make sure my kids know mommy doesn’t do everything for them!! Lol
Ok, I'm going to show my age here... there was never ever a single time my parents crawled on their hands and knees picking up what us kids through on the ground. Ever. Not a single time. Not paper, not toys, not food, not anything. Those were old school parents. My mom was like I didn't throw it there and I'm not about to crawl around on my knees picking it up. And she was like watch it not be there if you leave it. Ha!
my mum too. Also once she vacummed up one of my barbie's shoes. I learnt not to leave my toys around on the floor if I didn't want them vacummed up.

Yup me too. If you wanted to keep your stuff you'd better take it to your room and put it away. The day after Christmas was spent writing thank you notes - no playing or visiting with friends until it was done. We'd stop once in a while during the madness to clear up the mess and then resume opening whatever was left. We also kept a list while opening presents to know who to thank for what. We had a great time. We also were expected to help out with some chores/cleaning in between weekly visits by our cleaning person.
I would never watch my mother crawl around on the floor!! Those kids are old enough to help!!!!

A sanity saver we used with my 5 kids, everyone got a laundry basket or bin to hold their new things. Reduced tears from lost pieces and new toys getting broken. Bonus when the time came to put things away it was so much easier. You did an amazing clean up, I hope you and your family have a wonderful new year!
Our Christmas was very nice and relaxing, too. I let the kids open the presents, let them play for a few hours and then we go ahead and gather all the boxes and paper and throw them away
We have a bag ready to go. Then the person opening, balls up the paper and tries to make a “basket” and we all cheer. Not everything makes it in but at least it’s closer to the bag lol.
We have trash bags ready...we don't play that over here 🤣🤣 as soon as the wrapping paper is off into the trash it goes and gifts are stacked in a pile as the kids unbox them
I have a trash bag and clean as we go. I also bring a basket for each child for them to put all their new stuff in as they open it. Then everything is easy to take to their rooms.
Your little pug is so cute! While our kids never had their own garbage bag we didn’t let them take apart their toys until the mess was cleaned up. It accomplished 2 things: first, it encouraged them to control the mess and second, it encouraged them to help pick up the wrapping paper so they could play. Also, a strict rule in our house was that they were only allowed to get one toy out at a time, especially if they had several parts to them.

We open and throw paper everywhere but before we play with anything we clean up the paper. My son is 5 and he helps and then opens one toy at a time. It looks so good when you’re done. Great job.

When our kids were younger, we used one laundry basket for boxes and paper. And we had separate baskets for each person in the family. It did help with confusion between trash and gifts.

I have a sister that is two years older than me. When we were little one of us would open a present and the other would gather the wrapping and stuff it in the trash bag. We did this back and forth all morning!😂 My Mom also told us Santa would re-claim toys that were not cared for haha!

As you talk, I am nodding enthusiastically! You cannot see me but I will tell you I agree with so much of what you are saying and doing and why. We must think a lot alike, at least about cleaning! Nice story: in many Christmases past, my Mom would organize a "bag boy" an a "bow man." It really didn't matter if these two were female, the names stuck. The bag boy had a large black lawn trash bag and all of the wrappings and cardboard went to him- even thrown (gently) - across the room, for him to put in the bag. The bow man had a smaller bag for bows that could be reused and Mom would want to save. Likely your kids are too young for this and are much too involved in the gifting of it all just now but it's a thought for the future. It worked out pretty well as Mom had a special treat for her helpers and we competed to see who would get the honor. Eventually, Mom had to rotate the roster as we came to have 4 more step-siblings and riots were about to break out. Enjoyed your video- thank you!

We have a big trash bag handy while they're opening presents, and they toss paper in as they go. If the paper starts to build up, we halt present-opening, and catch up on the mess.
It keeps presents and gift cards from getting lost. If there's too much mess afterwards, presents get walked on, parts get lost or broken, and that's certainly no fun. That wouldn't teach respect and care for the gifts they just received. Plus we always clean up the paper before the kids get to play with any toys so pieces don't get lost or broken. Just part of them learning respect and responsibility for their possessions.
I keep one or two bags ready for paper (yes, we cheer when someone "scores" a "basket"!), and then stack the empty boxes and plastic bits in a separate area to the side. After the presents are opened, I separate the plastic and cardboard that can be recycled and flatten all the boxes (salvaging the instruction books and accessory pieces that may be hiding there!). Even if you don't recycle, you will have manageable piles of flattened cardboard and plastic pieces instead of heaping piles that rip out the sides of the trash bags. PS: Loved other folks' ideas of a large, holiday decorated box for trash and having separate individual laundry baskets to put opened gifts in!
You guys are awesome. Have tons of great ways to stay organized during the crazy present opening. Love that you flattened the boxes. I need to do that next time because it would of def helped with how much space it takes up in the trash. I wish we had a recycling bin here!!

Hi Ashley,Happy Monday! We had a black bag ready so much paper and boxes to get rid of lol.I had to wait to the garbage men came to open up any more boxes no room in our recycling container and we have two of them!
It’s always nice to start cleaning but it’s been so busy today is my day off from cooking I have cooked and did more dishes in the last two days and I am exhausted.But we all had a happy and enjoyable time I’m so glad you all had a great Christmas too.😀

For wrapping paper, we do a hybrid of you and your husband. They rip through the packages but the paper is picked up before they start opening the actual boxes and getting all the pieces out.

Boy, did you ever motivate me! Before this one, I was watching your after New Year's cleaning video... I got up 3 times to go do something in my own home, thinking it was nice to watch but I should take a time out from TH-cam to do my chores as dinner was completed and no one was using the blender (smoothies get made for the next day after evening meal is over)... Now, I have done what I went to do and more- loaded dishwasher, set up washer for tomorrow's first load, fixed an organizational issue in the linen closet (small one), and my husband says I am doing everything while smiling! I appreciate the mental stimulation that leads me to happily clean and straighten. I have trouble finding women who are homemakers/wives/mothers and who do not work outside the home. Some of my contacts with other women is not great, especially after they know I have an education and a past profession. I don't feel I should have to explain my reasons and I adore the idea of someone like you, with many gifts, who chooses to raise a family. God bless you.

We throw the wrapping paper in a trash bag, usually it’s all handed to their dad and he throws it away. It definitely doesn’t mean we don’t have a mess-because it’s two days later and there is still stuff everywhere. It helps that the wrapping paper is thrown away right away, because then the toys don’t get mixed in with it and little parts rarely get lost.

We have a grocery bag for paper. Hubby keeps up with it while the kids are opening. Afterwards we make piles for each persons stuff under the tree. They are a little older now so it's a bit easier but they do good with it and our dogs dont end up eating their toys lol

That was quite a mess! I’m sure the kids had a blast! We always try to clean up the trash before the kids/grandkids open up the toys. I remember when I was a kid, we lost a toy in the trash. I never wanted my kids to feel sad about losing a toy. My kitchen needs a major cleanup from baking and crafting. It’s not big enough for all that mess.

We did the same. We bought some colorful fabrics and small bags of made different sizes. Now we just have to fold them and put them away for the next year or holiday.
Hi I am from England. My children are older now but when they were little we always collected the rubbish straight away. This was because the little bits off their toys would go missing if we didn't. Can I ask do you recycle the paper and cardboard? We have to recycle practically everything in the UK. Your home is beautiful and you clean it beautifully, well done.

I put a big empty laundry basket in the room, and after opening a gift the kids throw the warppings right in there. They make a game of it, to make as many 'goals' as they can. later I can just take the basket(s) and seperate the paper from plastic easily.

Between the grandkids, our sons, my husband's, and my presents it took us two hours; we throw the paper away as we go because I know I do not have time for that. CHRISTMAS was blessed and THANKS JESUS FOR THE BLOOD. SHARED TO THE BURGH!

We usually have bigger boxes that we had from shipping that I will put a few around the living room so wherever the kids are they can ball it up and make a basket 🏀

We pick up paper and cardboard from toys etc as we go. I just packed away the Christmas decorations and we did a big tidy and clean, organising room for the extra toys as well.

I don't know if you've intetionally left all those wraping paper on the ground looking foward for a good cleaning video or not, but it did actually an amazing cleaning video :) Some people will always says to clean as you go for everything, but that would also ruin a part of the existence of a cleaning channel :P Plus that I'm all into enjoying the party as much as possible and clean the next day too ! You probably miss to have a big dumpster by now haha, I hope you're not limited by the amount of bags you can leave on garbage day where you live, you'll be stuck with them for months :P
She's trying to get a second trash can because they'll only pick up what fits in the can and as you know her family has way too much trash for that

Good thing wrapping paper can be sqeezed enough to fit a lot more bags in the can than normal trash, but still she'll be stuck with a lot of bags for a while in the garage then. I'm living alone and I have a huge dumpster that is emptied once a week and that never been more than 1/4 full since I live there, but it's a little bit far in Canada Eh :P

Soooooo, historically we would basically go around and each person would unwrap.... but then it would go everywhere, and once everyone was done we would take 5 minutes and pick up before playing with the new stuff. We still basically do that, but a few years ago my household started working toward zero waste, so I wrap in pillowcases and sheets with ribbon now. Since we do presents with my brothers family, we typically sort burnables (they were heating with wood because the furnace had gone out, but otherwise they have a firepit for the warmer months), throw what little plastic is in the packaging in normal trash can, and fold up the pillowcases.... they have also started using/reusing gift bags more as well.
I should mention, even with a 3 yo at their house, this keeps everyone so much calmer and less overwhelmed.... we leave and other than a few extra dishes they don't really have a bunch to do.
What a wonderful sight enjoy it while you can. Those Xmas of not being able to see the floor because of toys and wrapping paper are all gone for us so seeing you're video made me smile . Best wishes and a Happy New Year from Northern Ireland.

Growing up we HAD to keep the mess cleaned up..the family (all 35 of us) would start arriving and we just didn't have space or time to have a mess... However as my children were growing up we weren't so fussy about...we did try to keep the paper mess at a minimum....it was fun to watch my boys just toss a piece of paper in the air... I would have a trash bag ready so when they open the presents they had me the wrapping paper and I throw it away makes cleaning so much easier
