I googled that question once and the answer was that young girls do it to make their faces seem smaller and cute young ladies do it to make face seem smaller its like us saying to our children smile for the camera they say cute for the camera alot of Asian countries do it for the same reason.
My thoughts exactly and it seemed as if there were many more people who managed to have their photos taken as no one was monopolising the horse, just having their photo taken and going off. A definite improvement.

It didn't matter what you or anyone else thought at that time. They were allowing it to happen which was promoting that behavior. Had they prevented this at the beginning, no one would be petting the horses nor grabbing the reins and trying to feed them apples and candy. In some places in NYC we have mounted armed police. Petting their horses will most likely get you shot, tased, arrested and tased some more, released then trampled by the same horse.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

That horse stands in the sentry box for one hour once or twice a week, every other week, and now no one can touch him except MoD personnel. He has his own farriers and vets and a slew of troopers to look after him and he gets 6 weeks’ holiday in the country every year. In fact, he’s better off than many working humans. So people can stand near him and pose for photos. What’s cruel about that? He’s a working horse. That’s his job. Without tourists there would be no need for horses.

I am so glad that they are not allowing these beautiful creatures to be treated as though they are in a petting zoo anymore. At least animals in a petting zoo have the option to walk away when they have had enough. These horses had no choice but to endure all the smells and germs. I am sure that they get lots of love while off duty.

I'm English and to be honest I prefer it out in the countryside amongst the forests,fields,Bronze Age burial mounds and Neolithic stone circles. There's plenty of history outside of London without the insanity of these crowds.

Bring back the days BEFORE dumb ass social media crap. People were far more relaxed and happy. Now they are all deranged zombie's with noses in their phones. I don't even bother with mine when out. I ignore calls or texts unless they are from the doctor's or hospital, I know they will only ring when important, I will answer if them.
Two reasons, the first one...the horse and guard need room to maneuver so neither of them get hurt, and the other is that is a public foot path. Personally, I'd rather see the adults behaving as responsible people, imo.
The chain linked barriers in the archway doesn't stop tourist from trying to go beyond them. Also, remember that the horses are out for 1 hour at a time and they are working horses. Doesn't make sense to block them in if they have to leave/defend at the drop of a dime.

I'm English born and bred, only been to London three times and last time asked if I could have a selfie with the guard and he nodded, took the picture and I said thank you and thanks for your service and he replied, my pleasure, not one of those tourists asked if they could take a picture ? Manners cost nothing

These horses are absolutely magnificent. Huge majestic black horses. I have always loved seeing black horses in Durban South Africa ridden by the police. Freisan (can’t spell) Dutch horses. I hope they are being well treated these days.
They don’t! Boxmen and horses take turns at one-hour shifts from 10 AM to 4 PM, the foot guards have two-hour shifts, once a day. I should be so lucky.

Just to let people know, the Guards and their horses are changed every hour. The Foot Guards change every two hours.
And they are watered even on duty.
In hot weather they change every 1/2 hour and if very hot they close them down altogether

They don’t! Boxmen and horses take turns at one-hour shifts from 10 AM to 4 PM, the foot guards have two-hour shifts, once a day. I should be so lucky.

If you see a tour group and they are already getting pictures individually EITHER WAIT YOUR TURN OR AT LEAST ASK IF YOU CAN GET YOUR PHOTO BEFORE THEM. Most tour groups have a tight schedule to keep. If you're alone or with just your family YOU CAN WAIT they can't. Show some respect for not only the KING'S GUARDS AND THEIR HORSES but also tour groups from other cuntries. Even though you yourself are from another country you may noy know it but you yourself are a representative for your country
