Hi Neil, a very fitting tribute, I’m embarrassed to say I’ve only seen Cheng Pei Pei’s final role as the matchmaker in Mulan. I did a bit of reading on her condition Corticobasal Degeneration and it sounds like a living nightmare. I will try to check out some of her movies. Nice to see you back Neil, take care mate👍😃👍
Thanks, Alan. A lot of her martial arts films haven’t been widely available. Hopefully more will get a restoration and reissue. I was fortunate to get Come Drink With Me. And then her late career films, other than Mulan, are quite low key independent films so not surprising if many people haven’t seen them. All the best
Hi Neil, Very nice tribute Cheng Pei-Pei! I can't believe I have never even seen Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. I'm probably the only person who hasn't seen it. But Meditation Park and Lilting both sound real good. I actually don't own any martial arts movies, but almost bought Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon once. I probably should have. Hope your life is slowing down a bit for you. Have a great evening too.
Thanks, Lita. I think Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon could be enjoyed by people who don’t typically like martial arts movies, there’s a lot of beauty and drama to it. I thought Lilting was a very effective drama, nicely acted. A vacation day for me so a little time to catch up on movie talk. Take care
Such a well spoken 'in memoriam' tribute Neil. I can't say I've seen many of her films but I thought she was incredible in Come Drink With Me and CTHD. Hopefully I'll get to see more of her filmography in the coming years with 88 films, Eureka and Arrow releasing all these martial arts films.
Thanks, Jamie. I was surprised that other movie tubers who have a better knowledge of martial arts history didn’t do a tribute video. I did see you had paid respects on instagram. Yes, I think more of her films will likely get a restoration and release in the coming years. There’s an amazing number of martial arts films in general that are now available
I enjoyed your overview of Chang Pei-Pei’s career. She was not an actress that I knew by name but I do have Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon on DVD. I don’t think that I have hardly any martial arts movies in the collection other than the Kill Bill movies but will have to keep an eye out. I don’t run across that genre much when thrifting.
Hi Randy. Thanks for watching. Yes, not too many martial arts movies around in thrift stores or when they are they often tend to be the poor quality prints on compilation dvd sets. Arrow and some of the other labels have done a big push in recent years in bringing restored movies to the market.
a really touching and great tribute to a movie legend, such grace and style in her movies, R.I.P cheng pei-pei, cheers neil
Hi Stephen. Thank you for watching.,much appreciated
