A haunting, magical ballad. Utterly spellbinding. Deserved to be in winning contention. One hell of a "farewell" for Italy until their well-deserved return in 2011.
I was 18 years-old then. I still think it is one of the most beautiful songs ever presented at the ESC. I listen to it 25 years later with the same joy and chills.
fun fact (not really "fun"): I don't know why, but italian record companies never loved the band. Jalisse's "Fiumi di parole" is iconic, but they didn't do any other famous songs. When Alessandra was pregnant, his husband and bandmate Fabio started working as a delivery man, because they needed to make money for the baby. That's insane, they should be more famous. Nowadays they have been excluded for years from the Festival of Sanremo. It's like if producers didn't want them to be famous, even if they're stunning and people love them.
@@edoardomiserocchi6220 Because when they won Sanremo they were under an independent discographic studio and bigger ones got mad about the outcome and made sure to never let them work again at high level. Italian studios hold huge power in the market, still today they say yes or no to many Sanremo entrants and winners, especially through journalists.
@Edoardo Miserocchi Also, RAI didn’t want to participate in ESC anymore (due to expenses and low ESC TV rating in Italy) and in 1997 applied “by accident” (not sure how that happened), they wanted to withdrawn, but Jalisse apparently and allegedly took the matter to the court and legally won their right to go to Eurovision. And also there were plagiarism accusations, the song does resemble “Listen to Your Heart” by Swedish Roxette, but allegedly accusations were overthrown in the court. All of these claims were never proven, but if there is half the truth in them, then RAI-Jalisse relationship was tense from the start, to say at least and therefore RAI and Italian record companies probably began to marginalize Jalisse in the Italian music scene
Alessandra's voice is heavenly, that's for sure. As for the song, it's a classic beyond measure, and should've cracked the top three. One of my favorites from Italy.
se il Regno Unito non avesse inviato "Katrina & the Waves" con una canzone così popolare, "Love Shine a Light", beh, sarebbe stato possibile, ma il 1997 è stato un anno da record e nessuno si è messo in mezzo. l'amore fa brillare una luce English if the uk hadn't sent "katrina & the Waves" with such a popular song, "Love Shine a light," well, it may have been possible, but 1997 was a then record winning year and nobody was getting in the way. love shine a light

I was a teenager listening this song live and it really amazed me. I love it till now. She is so beautiful and with a voice of an angel. Btw I am really happy to see them as a couple till now.
italy will never in an ESC contest, until they stop to sing in their own language, i mean 2017,2018,2019, all masterpieces, sad the 2020 ESC was not disputed, Diodato, fai rumore, listen his song, another incredible masterpiece, but i'm sure, he would not have won! ESC will only english language!! the last 15 years all send singer with sons in english!!!
100 % ok with u Kristian. 23 years later, it still gives me life. I remember the lyrics as well. And I’m French speaking. One of the most beautiful song ever.
I have still to understand UK's appeal. The voice is nice, the anthemic quality is cool. But the lyrics are... Basic? So basic and repetitive. And some have the audacity to call it the best song in ESC
+Wavin' Racer The audience was low, and the italian television decided to don't partecipate anymore. This for 14 years. Now i re-see Eurovision, and instead to listen all languages of Europe, I listen 90% English. This is not the Eurovision i want to listen. So i don't watch anymore.
It's true, to be honest they should sing in their own language, then, if you suceed to get on the final evening, you'll be free to sing in the language you want...
Apparently, back then there weren't given allocated times when they could do an advert break. By 1993, it was too expensive for RAI (the Italian broadcaster) to host 3 hours or so of TV without an advert break. By 2011, there have been breaks in the show where the broadcasters who do advert breaks can have a few minutes of adverts, hence Italy came back. Some people were glad however, as Italy wasn't able to host if not participating (given the horror show we had in 1991...)
Unbelievable that this song did not win !!! Wonderful voice and wonderful performance . No need for dancers, no need for visual effects, no need for a choreography, no need for provoking maintream or alternative sexuality. Her voice is enough to captivate all senses
This song remains in my Memories of Italy. I was going to college in Rome when it came out and it was a bunger at the Festivo di San Remo. I think it was 1996-97. This one and I Mie Capelli, then Mi Manca an Italian version of John Waite’s I am missing you.

Mi aspetto mille scuse
Come sempre da te
Sei un fiume di parole
Dove anneghi anche me
Che bravo che sei
Ma questo linguaggio da talk show
Cosa centra con noi ?
Provo l'unico rimedio
Prima o poi ci portano via
Prima o poi ci portano via
Ti darò il mio cuore
Ti darò il mio cuore se vuoi
Se puoi, ora parla con lui
Vorrei fermare un'immagine
Sentirla entrare dentro di me
Un tuo silenzio più complice
Vorrei
Prima o poi ci portano via
Prima o poi ci portano via
