The instrument is called a horsehead fiddle or Morin Khuur

One of the instrument you mentioned is called the Morin Khuur (Mongolian: морин хуур; Chinese: 马头琴), also known as the horsehead fiddle, is a traditional Mongolian bowed stringed instrument. It is one of the most important musical instruments of the Mongol people, and is considered a symbol of the Mongolian nation. The morin khuur is one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity identified by UNESCO.

It is usually played on the a sitting position. But the band customized it to be played standing up. Of course the player Gala & Jaya have to relearn the instrument to this new posture.
The other is a custom made guitar-like instrument is called the Tovshuur, also known as Topshur or Tovshuur (Cyrillic: Товшуур; Mongolian Script:ᠲᠣᠪᠰᠢᠭᠤᠷ/Tobsigur) is a two or three-stringed lute played by the Western Mongolian(Oirats) tribes called the Altai Urianghais, the Altais, and the Tuvans. The topshur is closely tied to the folklore of Western Mongolian people and accompanied the performances of storytellers, singing, and dancing. According to descriptions given by Marco Polo, the Mongols also played the instruments before a battle.

LOVE THESE GUYS!!! I think another great band for you to check out, is a group called "Alien Weaponry". They're young guys from New Zealand that sing in both English and their native language (Maori, I believe is how it's spelled).

Definitely check out more of their music videos, any of them. That instrument is a morin khuur, very ancient and very cool.

6:24 the Instrument is called a Morin Khuur (Horse head fiddle), traditionally the 2 strings are made from the tail hair of a horse (to bind instrument & player hairs must come from player’s own horse), the “Male” string has 150 hairs and the “Female” string has 130 hairs.
When playing you don’t push down on the string(s), rather you place your finger(s) UNDER the string applying pressure from the top of your finger(s) or (as you see them do sometimes) you “tap” the string

you react the same way I did when I saw that instrument for the first time....long story short ...he plays it with his fingers between the fretboard and the strings... only string-instrument in the world I have ever seen played that way

Helloo! Greetings from Mongolia and thank you so much for your reactions.
The instrument you were asking about how do they play it? was Mongolian traditional instrument called Morin khuur or in english horsehead fiddle. It's strings are made with horse hair. Standard tuning is si bemoli, fa. Lower tune is fa and it has 120 strings of horse hair, higher one is si bemoli and it has 90 strings of horse hair. This means it has not only 2 strings it has 210 strings. Playing method or way or something ( please forgive me for my bad english) is to push strings with your fingertips sideways gently. With index finger and middle finger we use fingertips and with ring finger little finger we use fingernail skin to push the strings sideways. ( push left to right ).
And skilled player can make morin khuur sound like horse.

@ Ross legar thank you for that explanation. I knew the strings were made of horse hair but didn't know just how many. Your explanation helped a lot.

I know Mike has done it before but not the version with Jacob of Papa Roach. Mike here is the link for the official video to the version that Cindy is referring to below. Maybe we can try to get it on the list for an upcoming live. This version is a high octane track.🔥🤘@Cindy R please join us in the lives. They are a lot of fun.

This band are amazing, the throat singers always get me. And the scenic views they show in their videos are phenomenal . Mike shows them so much respect. ❤
