The story of a culture changing rapidly with time while also staying true to its roots. The story of one of the most beautiful, harshest places in our country. This is the story of Todnam. Personally, I feel that places such as Todnam should remain pure and untouched by tourism. But the villagers feel otherwise and feel left out of the tourism boom that places like Mudh experience. It is not really my place to stand in the way of their aspirations.
If you like to visit Todnam then please get in touch with my friend Nawang Tanzin. It is his dream to open the first homestay in the village. His number is 94186 02537. This is the most I can do and I feel guilty for doing this. Please do not comment/message me asking for more details about the village.

Do they Look like tibetan? Dress like tibetan? Pray like tibetan? Name sounds like tibetan? Taake nothin from indai but back in history they are tibetan... These people especailly elders assocaited themself wit tibet but again take nothing from indai, im in debt of indain hospitality. Im tibetan.. And political history change all the time but ethinicity dont. Free tibet,jai hind.. Happy that spiti is in indai and hope it will remain that way. Thank you indai

Yes, but this is Lahual Spiti district of our Himachal Pradesh. It's a biggest district of the state. Our this culture 95% similar with Ladakakh state. Bocoz we are your nabrouring and brother state. Himachal Pardesh.Our culture also similar to Jammu and Kashmir.

Thank you Tanzin. Yes it is very important to save your culture. I'm afraid it is going to be very difficult with the introduction of Jio. The next generation will get more and more distracted about 'modern' things and will not care about their traditions. This is what happened to me as well when i was growing up.
We young generations of spiti will save our tradition and sir u have inspire us lot to do this .In future I will really going to do sth for my beautiful valley and inspire lot to my younger generation to save our culture.💞🙏🙏

Spiti Valley remind me of Tibet. The culture and tradition of the people are similar to Tibet. These small small pocket places of Tibet became part of India after 1959. India did made a good deal with China. Thank you for covering the story.

I am from alluri seetharamaraju forest. Now in concrete jungle for past 58, cannot go there to take fresh air, forest fruits. Time takes us to where to eat, drink and merge in nature.

Please when u go back to your mainland India spread the message how people from remote and tribals treat mainland Indians. People from remote places treat guest with love, respect and humble and treat them as God's but when people from this places go to mainland India there is lots of ism and looked down.and who know could lynch to death by seeing out of nowhere.
Nagaland is no different, There are also ism Baptist Christianism. And one major thing I have noted that Nagas have racist superiority syndrome as they are English speaking Baptist Christian and with modern fashion sense or maybe majority of Indian do not know the reality of Naga and treat them like God, as many Indian will say like Nagas are headhunter, they are Brave, no nothing of them is reality now. Untill Naga respect Indian people, they will not get respect, Nagaland isn't only diverse state in India, all state have their custom and languages but they don't fight like Nagas. I know they usually treat tourists well, but they clearly hate India and mainland Hindi speaking Indians. I hope sense must prevail in both sides.
