    Hi, Antônio
    Im regular optometrist in Brazil, and I love your content , congrats for your amazing job.
    Unfortunately the optometry in Brazil isn’t so recognized as your country , so we have a big fight against the ophthalmologists, because they wanna do all the health care but
    I really hope someday we could have a peaceful and healthy relationship with the ophthalmologists
    But even with this big fight, we can made a better health care for the Brazilian people.
    Greetings from Brazil.

    7:07 "Having a near add of +1.50 means that the glasses are designed to be used at a working distance of about 67 cm, which is perfect for computer work."
    Watching this, I immediately wondered about how far I was naturally sitting from my screen, so I paused and grabbed the tape measure next to me. It was 67 cm, bang-on. This guy knows his stuff. 😂

    Thanks for sharing this, a most insightful video on the meaning of the prescription - in the UK and least, I've never seen the PD or BVD written down - it seems to be a cynical attempt by the various opticians to avoid you taking it away and buying glasses from a third party!

    • @Arvak
      @Arvak ปีที่แล้ว

      Luckily you can still get glasses from a 3rd party without it! They'll just measure for the PD and BVD at your fitting appointment. I like to get my eye test done at a private opticians as I find they give a better service and it's quieter there, then take my prescription down to Specsavers to get glasses as they're much cheaper than the private opticians

    • @Umski
      @Umski ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Arvak Yes indeed that's one way to do it - it's the online only dispensers that need the info remotely such as Glasses Direct - fortunately if you have a spare pair they can derive the numbers they need from them but it all takes longer as a result - now that I'm wise to this I'll ask the tester/admin to note those values too!

One stating my myopia has advanced to -2 on the right eye and -2.5 on the left, and the other stating it is -2.25 on the right eye and -2.75 in the left. Even though it is not a significant difference, I am not sure which prescription I should use now. Any advice?

    • @Etrexum
      @Etrexum ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll make a late reply in case someone else in the future is in doubt:
      Increases on glasses go by 0.25, so it's normal that you got 2 tests so close like that. I would personally go with the one with -2.25 and -2.75, cause it will probably last longer before the eyes get even more than that level.
      Let's say your current level on the left is -2.09, maybe in a year that will become -2.15, and in 5 years it's -2.40. It depends on your luck about how fast it degrades, and how often you will change glasses.

    • @ellianagrant6294

      It’s the number that the sphere and cyl are being multiplied by (the x180 or x13). The number corresponds to the angle (near 180 or 0 is with the rule, 90 or 270 is against the rule, and so on)
      I’m not an optometrist, so I may be wrong, so feel free to correct me!

    Am I able to tell what my prescriptions are just by looking at the glasses?
    I recently went to a spectacle shop to get a blue lens thinking it would help with my red eyes from using computer(i think)
    The optometrist didnt give me a prescription paper but gave me a receipt instead. The shop was abit too far from my house and I was busy with work so I didnt went to get my prescription.
    She did told me i have slight asmatigsm and my degrees were about hundred plus.
    My red eyes has no other symptoms. No pain no dry no itchy. I would not even know till someone told me and it always happen on the left eye. Lately I have been having dull pain/headache behind the eye. Is it a concern?

    • @AntonioTheOptom

      Round the axis to the nearest 45 degrees:
      - 180 = with the rule
      - 90 = against the rule
      - 45/135 = oblique
      e.g. 169 degrees = with the rule

So if you have astigmatism so the front of your eyeball is shaped like the back of a teaspoon, then the angle listed is where the handle points to, yes? I imagine it's numbered like a compass or clock face. Is the 12 o'clock position 0 degrees? And then counting around outward (to 3 or 9) then down to 6 o'clock?

    Oh why, oh why, oh why could you have been my optometrist? My left eye has a value of -8.5. My right eye had emergency retina surgery to connect it back to my cornea and then cataract surgery to replace my lens. It has a value of about -3.5. I last went to a National Lens Company for glasses. I don't think I got the Doctor that was head of his class in school. I have progressive lenses that work ok for distance. In fact, I can tell the color of a traffic light a mile away with my left eye. My right eye is a bit more dodgy because there are certain spots that are fuzzy no matter what distance. With my glasses I have double vision at short distance of 20 feet or less. I just close my right eye. At Close up my right eye had spots that go fuzzy. Now my left eye without my glasses, I can read and see every line and micro printing on a $100 dollar bill. It made it great for checking for counterfeit currency. Although my focal length was about 5 inches I could see everything on that $100 bill. I couldn't see the dashboard of a car without my glasses.

      If you go to ophthalmologist they always right their script in a + sign. To get your true power, you need to add sphere and your cylinder. And transpose the axis. It's hard to explain here coz it will be too much to write it down.
