      This particular type of opal is only found in Ethopia and is a very young opal species.

      one of the tests you can do is the lick-test. If you wet your finger and place it against an ethiopian opal, it should have a "sticking" effect as you lift up the stone. Because of the porous nature, it absorbs fluid and thus a sucking effect.

    Wow do all opal become clear when it's obsorbed enough water? Would that leave stress fractures in the opal. They're just such an amazing stone, thank you

      NO, and not all hydrophane Ethipoian opals go clear. I refuse to cut Welo opals due to the fact that many are hydrophane and absorb a lot of water. Some will return to their original state, many will not and will go totally opaque.
