I agree very informative especially for people who may never have played. Now you can understand how Coaches will disguise what there showing and its important for the QB'S to be able to read and see it. Not to change the subject but that's what I always liked about the late Jim Valvano when he was the Coach at N.C. STATE. He would diagram a two three zone and show you how to trap and the proper way to run a fast break when you got the turnover. One, three and a chaser all kinds of little tricks. But yea love this stuff.

I’m here in the states, I used to be a very casual fan, but I really got into the game theory of football like a year ago.
For a game that’s presented as a game for god-fearing, cigar-chomping meatheads “toughing it out” agains the other team, it’s really quite a chess match and a game of strategies and concepts.

Also very important to note leverages with the CBs will generally indicate what coverage it is in addition to what the safeties are doing. Outside technique generally means zone coverage and inside technique generally means man coverage. There’s different ways to play all these coverages effectively along with some add on looks you can give such as 35 Cloud which is an alternative 3 Deep Zone that works in unison with Cover 3. I’ve seen every coverage used effectively against both run and pass, like Urban says you must know your personnel and opponent.

I think I am starting to understand why I get thrashed whenever I try to play Madden online. The players stomping me know all of this stuff and I don't. I need to watch all of these and then find some materials to understand the game deeper.

    • @dacypher22

He writes all letters capital. Probably a habit he has because it increases legibility for all of the players in a large room.

It would be great if he breaks down Iowa state’s 3 safety defense. It would also be great if he breaks down the 5 cb and 2 safeties defense in Madden video game called Quarters. The reason being, when defending the spread formation I use 5 cb and 2 safeties.

Man Urban has genius football mind. To have all that knowledge and can’t coach anymore has to be brutal too him. But he is also a great educator and can explain things well. This is quite entertaining. He had all this knowledge at a young age that’s why he was so successful. 3rd all time wining percentage in college history only behind Knute Rockney and leahy . In modern coaching history he is Unmatched in winning percentage.

as cool as this is, its still an oversimplification like a lot of these other types of breakdown videos that dont cover how many linemen need to be responsible for 2-gap versus how many 1-gap for a scheme to work, and then how it handles cases where a 2-gap lineman gets double-teamed in the run game. meanwhile bozo off to the side here is just nodding and saying "yup" like the gray hair adds any value

I like UM's easy/straight forward explanations.....and he was a GREAT RECRUITER OF TALENT ( esp Defensive Talent) !
BUT...………..after Luke Fickell left for UC.....
Urban Meyer allowed our Defense to become DEPLORABLE. Our D Coaches (as a group) FAILED AT THE FOLLOWING....
    1) Game plan
    2) Attack strategy
    3) IN GAME ADJUSTMENTS
    4) Team Concept (NEVER SAW THE SILVER BULLETS)
    5) Communication
    6) Understanding of assignments
    7) Passion, Pride and Heart
WE LOOKED LOST, CONFUSED, UNDISCIPLINED, ANEMIC and...……..SOUL-LESS !
Ryan Day kept the ONE good coach and fired or moved on from the rest.
Everyone can see what a DIFFERENCE it's made.
Sad => Urban Meyer couldn't see it or didn't care to. Waste of Time, Talent and over 8 million dollars a year !
