so... Why the styrofoam instead of XPS foam? The price isn't much different, and you can use all the same tools, but XPS is more robust. (For the unaware, they're chemically the same, but XPS doesn't break into those little beads styrofoam does because it's extruded in a single sheet instead of being expanded from a bunch of little pellets. You usually see it as house insulation in addition to as a craft supply.)
They're not the same price where I live, that's for sure. Maybe they are in your country but it's not a good idea to assume this is the same all over. Here, I pay about 2.50 for a large sheet of styrofoam. I pay 12.90 for the same size sheet of XPS foam. And that's AFTER shopping around for the best deal in my country. It's far cheaper for me to use expanded styrofoam for stuff like this, though I still use XPS unless I've run out of it.

I used a lighter to make the shape I wanted. It worked perfectly. It has to be the one you use for lighting a candle, the long handled ones.
