nice concise explanation! I probably should have done new seals when I did my viscous coupler bearing but didn't do a removal but was so close, probably should have. Thanks!
I haven't done the coupler. I'm assuming it's the same job to drop the diff and then tear it apart. As I said about that vent valve, if the diff cant get rid of increased pressure inside, it blows oil out the seals
Did you replace the axle seals and how difficult to replace the the viscous coupler bearing and seal ,mine is wining .Did you have to cut rubber boot bands from axle before removing from diff ?
I'm currently removing the rear transaxle from a 2009 RAV4; this video is very helpful, but I'm having to do things a little differently. I had to remove the bolts from the mount to the transaxle housing on the driver side; there was not enough room to remove the bolt through the rubber mount. I have the driver side axle out of the housing, but the passenger side will not budge; I'm going to have to remove the rear passenger wheel and remove the axle with the transaxle; looks like I will have to buy a new passenger side axle.
Thanks exactly that's I was looking for.

Any tips on the viscous coupler ? mine is wining and fluid leaking I believe out of axle seals.

Wonder if you could have just removed the diff from the mounted anchors instead

Pretty smooth, thank you!
Anyone can tell me what is the size of the 3rd bolt because in my car, it came out by itself and I don’t know what is the size to look for, thank you
You could take out one of the other ones to compare
It looks so easy, why did they quote me over $1800 on mine?!?!?!
I learned nothing. Way too choppy.
