Fantastic video. My E39 touring just slumped at the right rear. This showed me exactly where to look and what im looking for. Couldnt ask for more. Thanks form the uk!
@@christianherrera4729 simply the rear right airbag was shot. Once I took it out I could see all the outer rubber was crumbling and the threads were showing all around. The bag wasn't holding air any more. So replaced both the rear air bags and that sorted it. Been fine and worked happy ever since. Hardest bit is getting to the bolt that retains the bottom of the airbag to the lower wishbone.
You're the very best video I've found on this! I've been looking at them and stalling on fixing the system ( on mine. 99 528 wag) for 4 months. Now, having watched yours , I'm ready to start. Very comprehensive and concise and photoed well, so one can see. I appreciate it!
Thanks a lot for this video ! I found it very inspirational and helpful, love the "step by step" concept of your videaos that allowes me to make some fixes in my E39 myself. Cheers !
The 2 solenoid valves in the comrpessor have springs in them and they sometimes go rusty and dirty and not work properly. Can be cleaned and everything will work fine.
Yellow level light on dash and I do believe the car is a bit low at the back, can’t really tell tough. It’s leveled at least, not sacked on any side. Compressor or relay, where Would you begin?
New relays ? I just bought a 545i with air Suspension it’s dropped all the way to the ground my Compressor won’t go on I think I might need new relays were could I order those ? Thank you so much for your videos
I've recently encountered a problem with my e39. After like 20hours rear suspension goes flat down, when I unlock the car it pumps itself back again. I guess it has to do smth with the lines right? Because both sides go equally down with time, and it started to happen with both sides at the same time, so I am thinking there is nothing wrong with bags or tanks themselves right?
Kristiāns Grimza i think its normal. I had a Jaguat XJR with air suspension. When i locked the car the car went automatically down and when I unlocked the car it went back up. So no problem
How did you remove the trim panel /carpet above the air suspension attachments on the trunk? My trim that covers the mounts is hard to remove, any tips.
Hello, I have a 540i with electronic suspension and the previous owner changed the front shock absorbers and placed some normal ones without electronic system I would like to know if there is any way to cancel the system to be able to put 4 normal shock absorbers and that the car is not left with error and the other systems continue to function properly. i would like to know if there are any signal emulators or any relays that can remove and override the system in the car?
Hi Bimmermerchant, thanks for sharing all of your e39 stuff! I had an air bag start leaking during a short 5 minute drive. When I got home both sides were totally bottomed out. I replaced them, and the height is good now. But now the rear feels very bouncy, like the shocks are non-existent. Is it possible I damaged the shocks (or something else) by driving bottomed out for a few blocks? Thanks...
Thank you for watching. No, we had a similar issue and we drove more than a block. we then replaced the bag and everything was fine. You may watch to check the rear springs. Good luck.
@@bimmermerchant thank you. It turns out that the shop that did my alignment didn't replace the integral link bolt, so the suspension was crooked (pushed toward the front of the car) and the air spring was also crooked ("S" shaped). The missing bolt is what actually destroyed the old air spring in the first place!
Is it possible to completely get rid of the air suspension system and install a non airbag suspension? The 2001 525d Touring Wagon I have has been a money pit only because of the air suspension, everything else works great in the car. Always costing money and then a new issue develops with a different component on the suspension of this car. It has 229k km on the clock. Thanks.

Guess this is a long shot but mine is slumping in the right rear too. What was the problem?

I am replacing these airbags next week. After instalment of the new bags do i need to reset or code anything? Or just start the car and that's it?

a previous owner deleted the air suspension with springs, where would I get used parts to put it back in? thanks.
Why would you go back to air suspension it sucks.
Tons of issues, a proper set of coil overs from a good brand will drive the same.

check your angle sensor, might be faulty.
@@bimmermerchant I dont think its faulty, because when car is powered on it running perfect, all is leveled, it just loses pressure over night

If we recall correctly, there should be three caps which hide allen bolts, let us know how it went
@@bimmermerchant Thanks. Replaced both bags but still sags on left...

Unfortunately we wouldn't be able to help on this issue.
Is the airbag the same for the Msport? Since it is a bit lower

I did not know there was an air suspension on the BMW e39 series. Are all e39 series have that air suspension?
only wagon sport models
Only the Wagon and only the rear
bimmermerchant Not just the Sport models - my SE has it as well as my Sport - both Tourings.
