My cat likes your vids Ape! 😅 The radio resembles my AnyTone 878UVii + a lot...Good clean radio, nice to see!! Have you ever reviewed the AnyTone 878UVii +? That is my everyday HT...I love it because it does everything...It has DMR which im not of fan of...lol...Anyway thanks for the test and i will definitely be checking this radio out..The AnyTone is an expensive radio and icarry it when i go out and photograph raptors and would like to find a little cheaper, good quality HT in case it takes a drink in a swamp...ha ha
That extraordinary Clean transmitter harmonic & Spurious spectrum performance is probably due to Increased low band Low pass Filtering design....Hopefully this helps receive Desense/Overload performance also....Would be very helpful during product evaluations that Receive inBand--Crossband Desense performance be measured to predict External antenna Receiving characteristics where the typical "Blowfang" UV5R is so Deficient at....I would certainly like to know more 'bout this new offering....Thx for testing report vid.....
nice HT . glad to see a clean HT. Radioddity has been good with clean radios. nice to see a good spectrum analyzer. they are $$$ . the one I have was around $345 ang goes to 1.2 GHz. has same N connectors. looks similar . I use a Byrd line section to sample RF from radio under test and dummy load. the slug I have has BNC on it for sampling. will connect to 43 Byrd meter movement. for power measurement. I don't have that yet. Or any outher slugs. I got full legal power dummy load and others. some with N/BNC/UHF/SMA connectors. one with OIL cooled. glad to see the testing on harmonics. I wish they would set some for UHF . just take the standard they use and bump up to like 512 MHz . too easy for them to do. anyways UHF harmonics I have tested have been quite low. they get the UHF good but VHF bad like the old Talk pod or UV-5R original one. 73's
@@TheSmokinApe I have just the 43 line section with N female on each end. got at ham fest new in box. a few years back. next the meter 43 movement and slugs . they at ham fest all the time. Jim W6LG uses Byrd meters . pray for him. not so good lately. check out Lord Callum's latest video. 73's
@TheSmokinApe , can the bluetooth be used to connect the radio to a smartphone ? ... not for programming but to have a 2-way audioconnection between the two ...this will allow to send/receive messages and other stuff that uses audio (APRS, FT8, Rattlegram, Zello, Morse, SSTV ...etc) ... so my question is not about connecting the radio to a headset or mic (Radio=Master , Headset =Slave) ...but to a Smartphone (Smartphone = Master , Radio=Slave) which runs an app ... i think this is a wanted feature but up to now none of the handheld radios can do this ...can the GA-5WB do this ?
Yes, this is a new category of radios. BTECH GMRS (HT GMRS), Vero VR N75 (HT GMRS), Vero VR N76 (HT VHF/UHF), Vero VR 7500 (Base Station VHF/UHF) use the same App. You can control EVERYTHING from the App, You can use smartphone free BT headset, you can use a headset connected to your smartphone. There is a BT PTT button as well !!!!!
When checking for harmonics, did you check with a much lower span around the harmonic frequency? Say for example the fundamental was 146MHz, can you check at 292MHz with a 1MHz span to make sure you're not missing the peak?
@@TheSmokinApe span and RBW go hand in hand presumably? The larger the span the less resolution you have (higher RBW). Sounds like you covered all bases anyway 👍
I was waiting during the video to watch 70cm as well. I would have thought there are more services in 300-3000 MHz band, eg (DTV, cellular 3/4/5G/WIFI/LMR/Bluetooth/so emission standards for 70cm such as harmonics/spurious would be necessary...
5w is right around 37dbm but I see and understand your point. My attenuator isn’t a perfect 40dbm and I had a few connectors and a few feet of coax in the equation. Don’t worry, power test video drops tomorrow 👍 Thank you for watching
@@TheSmokinApe FYI, I have a SSA3032X Plus and I calculated that with the 40dB attenuator I use + cable can conector loss, the total was closer to 41 dB, which when entered made the readings spot-on with my Bird43.
Yknow what - even more content - could you use a completely different test bench and replicate? Thats an insanely well performing radio. If the power video shows it’s really crushing it? Howdy doody.

Thanks for sharing; and if there are more I'll be watching...been wondering about this one.
I still have some more stuff to do, thanks for watching Bob 👍
This looks pretty decent. I’m interested in the DB40-G also coming out.
Hey Mike, I’ll have to look into that one 👍
wooooo... refreshing!
Yeah, for a change 👍😮

I would agree with the first point, there will be additional testing which will include the front end.
Did you ever get a chance to review the Aprs features?
Sorry, I have not

Resolution bandwidth is more important than span, but to answer your question… yes, it was accurately tested.
@@TheSmokinApe span and RBW go hand in hand presumably? The larger the span the less resolution you have (higher RBW). Sounds like you covered all bases anyway 👍
Hey Chris, with the TonySA you can manually adjust the RWB as well 👍
@@TheSmokinApe ok cool. Does reducing the RBW increase the sweep time if keeping the span the same?
Yes, it does
Impressive!
Indeed, thanks for watching SF 👍
Would you consider repeating the test but on 70cm? I love the design of this radio, looks stylish!
Here in the US, there isn’t an emission standard for 70cm 👍

Hey Freddie, I haven’t look at the GPS and APRS stuff at all yet…. Thanks for watching bro 👍
Hi
Looks like a remake or re brand of the Tidradio H8
It’s close in dimension
In channelized operation, can it display BOTH frequency AND name (label) simultaneously?
I’m not seeing that, but I might not know what I’m doing 😮
@@TheSmokinApe Yeah it seems to be a common deliberately MISSING FEATURE on HT's under $300.
Do you think 3.58 watts is "pretty close to 5 watts"? My $12 Quansheng does that.🙄
Ape, conversion calculator says 35.5dbm=3.548134 watts. How do you figure it's close to 5 watts?

Is it dual VFO?
Yeah
Any testing on 70 cm?
There isn’t a purity requirement on 70cm, so no, I didn’t 👍
3:00 only 1 frequency per button press. 📡 They need to step it up. The green one does 5 at once. 😂
Lol
nice video
Thank you Thump 👍
Is it superhet?
I doubt it, the documentation doesn’t say
@@TheSmokinApe planning to buy a low cost superhet. Thanks for the reply.
@s8ultra732 Look at the Wouxun KGUV9PX. It's a superhet and an awesome radio. :)

So the power test video is posted and it passed. For this test I also replicated it on a TisySA Ultra with nearly similar results 👍
