I totally agree. He embodies Chet's ambition, "to be kind to everyone". And he also tones down his amazing talent, so as to not overshadow others. A true gentleman.
Bucky Pizzarelli - John's Dad I awoke today to a dozen tiny birds in my backyard. It snowed overnight and I'd spread some birdseed on the green grass yesterday. The 12 quickly became 20, then 30 . . . now more. I said to my wife: "Someone we love must have died." It's a coincidence that this only happens -- a dramatic number of birds instead of only one or two -- at the death of someone dear to us. My best friend's Mom, our parish priest. "Let me just check online." Last night I'd shared a note with Australia's greatest living guitarist Tommy Emmanuel. And first thing there this day: "Rest in Peace Bucky Pizzarelli. Thank you for all the music, your service in the War, your friendship and encouragement, and your divine love of playing the Guitar! Have fun with Django and Les! love Tommy x" ----- Back in 2012 when he was "only 86" and still doing up to 200 dates a year (he'd just played on Paul McCartney's album of standards and should-have-been standards -- "Kisses on the Bottom") Bucky Pizzarelli performed with his good friend Tommy Emmanuel. (If you have to ask, you don't play guitar!) Video shared this day. Love Tommy kissing his ring. Yes, I saw the great man once -- a solo performance here in Winnipeg Canada two dozen years ago. He brought down the house -- standing ovation. Watching this I remember why. Thanks for sharing, 57JackCaptain. Years ago, I was blessed to hear the entire Pizzarelli family - Bucky, John, Martin, and Jessica Molaskey - play a benefit at PS 9 in NYC. John and Jessica’s kids attended the school, as did the daughter of a family friend. It was truly a rare treat to see this gifted family perform. Unforgettable experience.
So much fun, and joie de vivre among these fine players. Four of the greatest on stage at one time, and no other instruments? A guitar orchestra! Love it.
One of the most fun showing vidoes while some folks (ok... best of) just only playing guitar .. music as it best .. and I'll never get them again playing backround for me :-) I love it
Richie is a hit songwriter and incredibly passionate about singing. He doesn’t even see himself as a standout guitar player beside these guys and stated that publically but if you listened to the solos he made (dry county, stranger in this town, my guitar lies bleeding in my arms, and many more) you cannot but respect him. He’s achieved more than every single person in the comments will.
My face hurts from 4 minutes of non-stop smiling. Bucky should give hope to every guitar player that age means nothing when you have that kind of for the music.
Some of the best guitarists on the planet right here on this video! Sadly Bucky left us for heaven last year, but do the current enhabitants ever have a treat listening to him now ;-)
Very cool to see Bucky is going strong... I saw him in Rahway New Jerset ...back in 2004 ...at a theatre ...he was playing that 7 string and amazing man and a very nice man...he sat beside us after his performance ... So great to see him playing so well... Thanks for posting
Vinni Raniolo's rhythm chops knock me out, and Bucky's solos...WOW! I would have given two months' pay if I could have been there. Thanks 57 Jack Captain for posting this. All you hot shot shredders our there with your twenty floor pedals with umteen effects. See how real guitars should sound. Tommy, Bucky, Vinnie, Frank. Nothing short of great.
Amazad;that’s how I feel...it’s the first time in my life that I discovered this great and admirable musician and guitar player, and,as a freelanca gutar builder I am ,it represens to me such a big,big inspiration!!!
We're so lucky to have these wonderful performers recorded for posterity. Just think of how many went before them where there is little if anything recorded.
Yeah, the sound sync is about .3 sec off... I was recording the audio separately (obviously) from the video. The video was audience captured, so there are some issues, BUT, I thought it was really worth posting. So did nearly a half a million other folks. Hope you still enjoyed!
Salut Marc !
I saw Tommy touring with Frank and Vinny a couple of months ago this year (2018) in the UK. They are all such amazing musicians. The tone of the guitar Frank Vignola uses really struck me, such a beautiful sound.
Always sleep with my tv on and usually on PBS, I was awakened at 330a.m. by the most incredible twin guitar work then it was triple then 4 ,no way could i just lay there ,got up found my glasses and watched the last 30 minutes or so of this concert .I havent been able to go back to sleep or pick my jaw up from the floor and that was over 4 hours ago ,now Im searching everywhere for more of this show but finding few links only this song which was great but dog gone it there just so much more ...one that can point me to a link Id greatly appreciate it .Honestly I think it had to be the best guitar work Ive heard in my life and Im now 58 .Incredible.....I just popped back here to say I found the entire show Ill be lazy and not edit my above request , remember to never Pick your nose ,Let Wilson Pickett
I was in the same boat. TV on, 3:30 in the morning. Mesmerized by what I was hearing. You found the entire program? Point me in the right direction. PLEASE.
Holy Crap what an extraordinary evening that must have been! Unfortunately for those of us that do not live on either coast, this kind of event almost never happens for us. Bucky really held his own with these much younger guys. Bucky's sons, John and Martin are also major players in their own right.
Twas indeed fabulous to hear this great talent... I only wish I could have captured more, but there were audience police about trying to prevent us video guys getting the show. Tommy is as always on top of his game, I've seen him probably 8 or so times now. Glad you enjoyed the video! Appears you're not alone!
Very many of my favorite musical performances have been given to us from fingerpickers, covering diverse genres, Folk, Country, Blues, Rock, Classical, Neo-Classical, and World music. That extraordinary talent to play Bass, Rhythm, and lead all in the same hands, I find to be totally enthralling.
Bucky is proof you don't have to sit in a rocker when you reach 86 and think about your life...but you can sit play your jazz guitar and enjoy life. Outstanding ! ! ! !
Bucky Pizzarelli left us on April 1, 2020 at the age of 94, 100 years after the release of this very song, Whispering. His daughter, Mary, reported that Pizzarrelli had tested positive for the coronavirus. He will be greatly missed.
Tommy is always so respectful of other players and seems to me he truly honors the older players he plays with and or learned from.
I totally agree. He embodies Chet's ambition, "to be kind to everyone". And he also tones down his amazing talent, so as to not overshadow others. A true gentleman.
Very true ! It’s a joy to see ❤️
Not just older players. He's got a video where he calls Billy Strings up on stage and they do a super Jam.
Wow 86 years old!!! Man an this is why, playing guitar with the best 😮
You see and old guy play like that, and you know there is still a young man inside. Lots of life in that music!
Infinite respect for Tommy who never fails to acknowledge those who proceeded him and made his career possible.
Amazing when the great gather for something like this ,had only listened to Benny Goodman version, what a treat
When you can play and have Tommy Emmanuel, Vinny Raniolo and Frank Vignola all admiring your playing.....you are a legend!
Just a honor to be witness to such heroes of jazz and fingerstyle.

Ain't it the truth, Arkansas Red! Sorry we lost Bucky, he was a legend and is sorely missed. Thanks for watching!
All guitar band sounds so natural and Tommy makes the show and that old guy.

Just about sums up 2020. What a disastrous year. RIP Bucky.

Un gran músico, toda una vida fecunda, dejó un gran legado y un espacio difícil de llenar.
This is hilariously good 😂❤🎉.
