    Beautiful set up! I've purchased Paul's rebuild kit online and installed it as per his videos. I highly recommend buying from him. His prices are great, ship time is short and it's not made out of chinesium.
    Also...I've read up on shot peening but still haven't seen how it's done.
    That would make an excellent video!

    Paul, thanks so much for your videos. Transmissions are my weak point in terms of knowledge and your explanations and on-hand examples make it so much easier! Looking to build a 65 GTO with a M-22 and understanding the guts is a great feeling. Thanks!

    Awesome work, awesome video, and I love how you share your knowledge to otthers freely like this.
    I do have a question, though. Does that 26 spline input shaft mean I can run any T56 clutch kit with the Spec 25? If that is possible, that opens up my options considerably.

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. 26 spline input shafts seem to be the standard on just about every race transmission. If you have a 26 spline 1 1/8" diameter hub, the input will work. Whether or not it will mate up correctly depends on your bellhousing locating the transmission at the correct distance from the clutch and crank.

    Regarding the better oil flow of the sealed bearings VS cage is the length of service the same?? You are a smart guy, love your vids, you make some valid points as to use bushings on the shifting forks, any reason you using cast iron for the plate on this trans. as opposed to the one you sell?

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sealed bearings last longer due to less contaminants affecting the bearing life. They also reduce windage. The plate in the video was discontinued by the manufacturer so we made steel ones until I could come up with the funds to tool another nodular iron plate. The castings are done and we will switch back to nodular iron.

    this maybe a stupid question but I've looked up this transmission n it seems it was used in late 60s (68) through 74, in gm cars n such. So my question is, do these go in modern cars? and if not how much different would a modern transmission be than this one for instance? sorry if this is dumb, im just learning about transmissions, as of about 5 days ago haha. whenever you n eric were together, thougbt this looked pretty cool thing to specialize in.

      The Spec25 is designed for road race applications requiring synchro 4 speed transmissions. The T56 was never designed for endurance race applications.

      @@GearBoxVideo Paul you Blue print your units with a lot more care and attention to detail than mass produced units like the Tremec TKO, there's no way they smooth out every gear like you do....
      or do all the little things that add up to a much better shifting transmission. Great Video Paul.......

    Great Video's Paul. Question: About the drilled lightend mainshaft. Is this drilled over the full lengt?. And are you not afraid that it will brake. Best regards Paul from the Nederlands

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's drilled from the front to just before first gear these have been in 800 horsepower vehicles as well as land speed cars that have hit over 250 miles an hour I have had zero failures with over hundreds of transmissions that I have built with the shafts they work great.

    Paul, is the input bearing supposed to be somewhat loose against the bore of the case or should it be like a press fit? Following your book, was worried about spinning the input bearing in the bore of the case. Mine is loose with a new bearing. I can pull it in and out

    • @GearBoxVideo

    I am rebuilding a MY6/A833 OD Transmission ( a General Motors COPO Chrysler trans where third gear is used for Overdrive) for a Chevy truck and based on what I've learned from you, am very disappointed in the sloppiness of the original design with the non-bushed gears and extremely loose fit of the hub/slider assemblies. Thank you for the knowledge gained, and I will be getting your book. I have purchased other S/A Design books and was impressed with the quality and information.
    Do you recommend sealed bearing for a street driven transmission...if can find them for this application.?
    The OM specs for this transmission required Dexron ATF, but do you think gear oil might be a better choice?

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The clearances of that gear train require the ATF lubricant. There are no sealed bearings for that application since they are a special size.

    • @dearmanville
      @dearmanville 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +GearBoxVideo --- Did New Process just tighten up the clearances as compared to the old days Chrysler used the A833, or did it have a fundamental design change?

    How long do the sealed bearings last until you need to put more grease in them? Or do they still get a little oil from the transmission through the ball bearing cover?
