Great old Atlas, made in kazoo MI. have 4 of the Atlas's and the Craftsman's , the 12" 1O1- and parts, Also check out your drive belt, seems to be jumping a lot. Like the video but not sure about the press, I use a rivet bucking bar, and make different ones to use on the AK build's..
I know this is an old video, length of the long rivet stub protruding through the receiver is 1.5 X diameter of the rivet. File it down to length, and I like to put a slight chamfer on the edges. Just seems to form a little better.
@@cawpin Glad I could help! That goes for all the long rivets. Take your time crushing them, once they start going sideways, or mushrooming off center, it is just about impossible to straighten them out. I usually order 3 sets of rivets, just to make sure I have enough long rivets should something go wrong.
@@PaulR8284 Have you found a source for rivets outside of places like ak-builder? If I had the specs I could probably get them at someplace like McMaster.
cawpin AK Builder is all I know for the rivets. Bought the drill bits through McMaster’s, and a rivet head tool through Requiem for the de-mill. Robert Forbus is an excellent source for tooling and the technical details of assembly.
Please forgive me if you already answered this question, I haven't read all the comments. This is some great instruction. Thank you for your expertise. I'm having problems with my jig on a 12 ton press. May I ask where I can purchase a rivet jig like yours? Mine don't look as nice as yours.
I agree with BuildyourownAK. If you have no idea what he is doing, do not attempt. These are his videos and are shot his own way. If you do not like them, build your own. If you have a serious question, feel free to email him directly. Attacking his videos will get you no where. Do a little research first.
Great tip on the -20/1000th's! I also have an old Sears/Southbend mine is a larger model and a bit older but these old US Steel/US Made tools smack the Grizzlys around. For this operation I think I am going to use a micro lathe I porchased for just such jobs a Sherine, they are quick to use in small work. Would you consider renting your jig with a cash deposit until it is safely returned? I have 2 kits to build and $250 SEEMS STIFF for the tool. Althought well made! Let me know via email
Nice review Ak builder dimple button is garbage many use a ball bearing I use a ln actuall dimple tool results from the dimple button vs actuall dimple tool are night and day
anyone build ak's in south florida i wanted to do 2 rivet builds i have all the parts nds1 parts kits etc. not worth buying rivet jigs and a press for 2 guns but ill pay someone if not ill do a screw build the longer rivets are for the scope rail
This is a free video showing those that are familiar with this sort of thing a different way to do it. You want a training video shell out some cash; then you have the right to complain. From what you have said so far; it's not a stretch to assume this is not a channel for you. Move on.
This video makes up for the ak builder rivet tool instructions being garbage haha
Thanatos for the info , beautiful rifle . I just picked up one as a parts kit ❤

As somebody who's just getting ready to start my first AK build, thanks for that. I hadn't seen that issue anywhere else.

I wish the swell necks were covered more. I cupped them not knowing. Going to try and flatten them but might get another pair
That press jig is that?
Hello did you receive 2 different arms for your plinker jig? I don't have that arm.

Where do you get your rivets from?

Did you heat treat before you did the dimples for the swell neck rivets?
Would heating the rivets be of any use before forming? Cherry them drop em and form?
In what order do you rivet the front trunnion?

On a Khyber Pass AK, would you use AKM, AKMS, or AK74 rivets?
@i7q i did a screw build for my first. very easy and is holding up. u will be happy with the results.
How much is the DVD?

Terrible lighting and get a better camera but all in all informative .
If you have to ask, you probably shouldn't know.
I have to laugh at the "wear eye protection" comment and then he sticks his bare hands right next to a lathe chuck with a piece of emory cloth, lol.
and how else would he do it?
You don't wear gloves operating a lathe.......it could get caught and rip your wrist off...same with loose hanging clothing.
Wow an absolute potato and a bunch of general description
