- Today I'll be painting one of the beautiful River Red Gums that line many of Australia's river systems. The River Gum can grow right down on the waters edge, making it a fantastic subject for painting water reflections. I will be using thick oil paint and palette knifes, working direct from the subject (en plein air) with a large stretched canvas

No wonder you were happy with this one... beautiful. Kept waiting for a pelican or two to drift by; guess you didn't need them for ripples with that perfect breeze. You just captured that moment of a perfect balance between abstraction and reality. As you said, ones knowledge and understanding of colour and colour mixing really does have to eventually become second nature... then enjoyment and having fun with the execution will come. Great harmony RME. Always amazes me how you can complete this large of a painting in an hour. I know there's a ton of work with all the filming and editing and uploading. That gum tree is gorgeous, you have captured it to the point where I can see it pulse with life , living and breathing whilst resting its base in the cool of the water

Crikey mate, you are like a little jumping spider darting about in fits and starts. Weaving your colourful web of tones and shapes. It was valuable learning watching this scene come alive from the early chaos of dark shades to the decadent tones of the Australian sunlight illuminating a contrast of delicate reflections on the river and the bulky tree line. I think the fun part of painting is when I do one that when I look at it later I am as surprised as anybody how it turned out. The most important part is knowing when to stop. You must enjoy not knowing exactly how its going to turn out.

This is better. You didn’t align mid-, fore-, and background edge verticals. Lines like that can easily sneak in, like the edge of a cloud with an edge of a rock, and just have to be looked for. Simply the Gorgeous work. Can’t wait for your next.
