    If we have to take average air temperature on daily basis, what method we can adopt (mean, mode, median).
    Eg. Maximum temperature is 10 degree & minimum temperature is -2 degree.
    Is it suitable to take mean, as median, mode seems to be impossible here.

    • @LearningPuree
      @LearningPuree  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We cannot employ a tool simply because it is available. The domain and data is studied before employing any tool. Moreover, taking a Mean does not imply simply taking an average of 2 extreme readings. Temperature is tracked hourly, throughout the day.

    • @manzoorwanigeo2335
      @manzoorwanigeo2335 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LearningPuree we take daily range temperature..difference of maximum and minimum temperature.

    • @LearningPuree
      @LearningPuree  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@manzoorwanigeo2335 The choice of the parameter you track is decided by the domain requirement. Range identifies the dispersion, not the central tendency. You would know that temperature is a continuous variable and a distribution can be plotted through the time period it is tracked. The distribution needs to be studied on what parameters you choose to track.

    Sir Suppose A Valve Manufacturer Produce Their Valves ( A , B , C , D ) --- > there are four valve type and error shows ( A --> 5.2 , B ---> 0.2 , C ----> 0.5 , D ----> 1 ) , so it shows a skewed graph but to get better solution what error value that should be taken by valve manufacturer ? is that median of those error values or mean ???

    • @LearningPuree
      @LearningPuree  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fact that you have different valves, you do not have a homogenous dataset. Further, you are referring to some error in manufacturing of each valve type. What decision do you want to arrive at?! A tool need not be used simply because it is available!

    • @captainstreamer3261

      Again, it depends on what what business decision is required. You have already mentioned that all are different types of valves. So, one cannot compare apples with oranges. Mean uses when data not skewed
    Median and mode use when data skewed
    Like : 3,7,10,12,15,19, 20 in this we use mean bcz data not skewed
    3,10,50,75,200 in this we can't use mean bcz data skewed
    Is it ryt???
    But sir what is positive skewed or negative skewed???

    • @LearningPuree
      @LearningPuree  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The point to note is that when we have extreme values in the data, then Mean may not be the right choice. To an extent, the example on 3, 10 and 200 could be acceptable. Skewness refers to how much the data when plotted on a graph is asymmetric indicated by how many less frequent values towards one tail (side) of the curve. The graphic in the video is a good example of the same. A quick way of understanding positive skew is whether the tail is longer and thinner towards the right which means more frequency of values on the left. Negative skew is exactly the opposite.

    • @LearningPuree
      @LearningPuree  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Archana, all the 3 concepts are examples of an "Average" which means the middle number OR a balanced number. To initiate the concept, you could use the concept of tally marks, placing dots on a line or may be even employ pictures. Number line is another best way to initiate the concept, then get them "warmed-up" before graduating to the next level of "real-life". There is NO single way in which these concepts can be explained to this level of the student. The best way is to tailor the life example with which the child identifies i.e. either Chocolate/Pizza/Cake/Pancake(Roti)/Apples etc. Mostly, the first 3 work :)

      Anmol, the question you asked was without reference of any source of the data. In that context the answer is evident. To which you do agree! Now, let us consider the example of the source of the data you have provided. In practical sense I am yet to see a 1 year old or a 2 year old able to watch and understand a TV program that is ALSO consumed by 50 + year old. Please understand any data is always studied for actionability with reference to the source of the data and the TG.
