The problem with playing ruthless and just winning by killing everyone is that you don't win at all, we see that previous winner easily get put into new battle royals so winning is pointless, the only way to win is to escape the game like the two main characters did and you can't do without the other students as backup.
I dont think this is true, i believe the guy who previously won volunteered to go in.
In the manga adaptation, the previous winner was working to sabotage the Battle Royale system and actually transferred himself to the next targeted class so he could have a shot at assassinating the leadership.
Not to mention the teacher immediately tried to kill the winner once it was over

If I was going to kill somebody and it was my friend group I would kill the most likable one so they don’t think it’s me because if you kill the person that you hate the most people will probably think that you try to keep the person you hate the most alive so nobody gets suspicious OK maybe if you hate them so much don’t help them in some scenarios or Pretend that you can’t help them like if there was a tag I will just freeze up and pretend I didn’t know how to fight and then like get everybody killed

I don't think that would have worked. In the book, it says the government goes to the parents of the children and tells them they took them to be in the program. The parents who resisted or opposed it got killed too. In the book, the nasty Sakamochi, or Kitano in the movie, raped Shyua and Kuinobu's guardian, not mom. That was what make Kuinobu so angry that made sakamochi kill him.

M'kay, I've watched this movie before. And if Shuya had the guts to kill to stay alive, his weapon is actually very useful. Since the lid of the trash can has a sharp edge and is flat, he could have used it to knock down any approaching threat and slit their throats with the sharp edge he had. An his partner/ friend/ crush had binoculars, they could have spotted their surroundings the pair of binoculars she had in her bag, seeing if this was a safe place, and if there were enemies approaching they could have used their natural instinct of fight or flight. Fight for Shuya to fight them off, or Flight , so they could've hidden before the enemy had even taken notice that there were people hiding there. But like, I'm just sayin' they could have made way better use for their weapons instead of treating it like it was useless. But also this is just like my theory, I really cannot judge because of their mindset, having to kill their classmates that are close with each other and knowing each other personally.
Unknowingly skip the battle royale by being sick or skipping school.

this is the movie that really started the battle royale formula, the japanese were truly ahead of their time in this era
I always called that one guy Radar. And as cheesy as his end was I always thought it was sad. He felt like the only one who could survive until the end, but he self nerfed himself in the name of love.

@@Narumaq123 there’s a manga based off the movie, it reveals that the parents and teachers were informed and not given much of a choice, in fact nobody is immune, having something prestigious about your family like being related to a government official makes it better tv ratings if you live or die.
their home room teacher was killed and his body shown to the kids as proof and one of the kids from an orphanage is informed his caretaker was equally as vocal as was just as also killed after the man forced himself on her.
I cant remeber if it was in the book or manga, but the students had no choice to go and if their guardian(s) refused, they just killed the guardians and took the kids 😃 what was the point in asking then 😭✋☠
My favorite character is definitely Kiriyama (psycho student). But in the Novel he has a backstory, in the movie he seems like a random psychopath

It would take out most of the competition, but you need to remember that it wouldn't kill everyone do to distance and blast radius. It should be noted that it takes a few seconds for a grenade to go off, meaning people can take cover.

first thing i'm doing is trying to see if i can get anything from the starting room. i wanna be prepared before i head out, and i certainly ain't gonna be with the rush, because that would spell out almost certain death. then, i'm basically just trying to get to as isolated a place as possible, so i can keep finding stuff. i get tired, i hide underground using leaves and stuff. i need to move, i do what you said and stay on an intersection for as long as possible, sussing out the most isolated safe zones. i have a low chance of surviving a fight, so i wanna avoid them as long as possible. by the time i'm found, i'll hopefully have a good defensive setup, protecting myself as much as possible so i can get as simple of a fight-back as possible. and maybe i can figure out how to rig up some sort of primitive sniper setup or something like that, so i can clear others out as safely as possible. and when it comes to getting sleep later on, i can find a small pipe or something to ventilate some underground hidey-hole. something inconspicuous.

Video games too. H1z1, Pubg, fortnite and maybe even Dayz wouldn't exist without this movie. Yet it gets no respect. Many people think the idea of a battle royale came from the movie hunger games. It's kinda sad.
I can easily remember the camaraderie from 30 years ago in high school and that younger me would not have the stones that I do today to ensure I survive. Younger me would have been a statistic
Your judgement based on "hunger games" when they don't know each other and prepare for the game. You elimenates the fact that they were classmates and friends, and they were not ready for the game.
Combine with that they ad other kids that have played before to the game, to be sure that the killing starts pretty quickly
Yeah true, the only time we get that kind of dynamic in the hunger games is when 2 competing tributes are from the same district and personally knew each other beforehand-which is pretty unlikely, considering the sheer size and population of each district. Tho it was cool how similarly to the hunger games, they all started off on unequal footing, some were already deadlier than others when the battle royale began and they all wound with different supplies. That said, it’s a bit more fair here because guns and explosives are added to the mix and that evens the odds considerably. Whereas in the hunger games unless you have MC plot armor, you WILL be murked by a career that’s been physically and mentally preparing for this since early childhood. If you don’t have survival skills or combat ability you will be killed and the 2 week training period they give you won’t make much difference in the long run for most tributes. Especially considering even if you do have combat ability, you’ll still likely be overwhelmed by career tribute (Once again, assuming you are not an MC)

That’s kind of the point of the whole “how to survive”. It’s just about ways characters COULD survive. Not whether or not those characters could reasonably be expected to know this stuff before hand.

I finished both the book and movie and the movie is great it just combines somethings to keep the flow going. And changes things here and there but slightly
2:47 The collar could be designed to have a fail-deadly mechanism that if it loses all signal from the outside it explodes. Mind you this can be triggered even in caves or other geographical blind spots. (only very long wavelength radio waves penetrate deep through terrain)
When you said "Hide outside and kill everyone one by one, when they come out, before the game even begins." I was honestly impressed.
It wouldn't even work though. Unless you manage to get 39 flawless silent kills. Knives will just cause someone to scream if you don't perfectly take them down a tip them off and you'll run out of stamina before you kill everyone, crossbow mean you need 39 perfect shots and I doubt they even have that many bolts, guns are loud and will alert every student when you are...

What's impressive about this?
