    "You match the description of a man that got beat up by a girl" is a crazy thing to say to a man who is subject to domestic violence

    • @internomad
      @internomad ปีที่แล้ว +47

      Agree to a point, however the cop knows the locals. She said her boyfriend is a drug dealer. The cops likely know he is a drug dealer and a scumbag and that was dig on the scumbag intentionally. If I was talking to a known drug dealer, I would have said same or similar. Drug dealers think they are untouchable but sooner or later they get whats coming. So to try to defend the boyfriend is to be defending a scumbag drug dealer that likely sells drugs to minors and some may have even over dosed from drugs by this boyfriend drug dealer.

      @@internomad I'm not sure whether that's a way to justify the approach of the officer, however. Say, for example, a known carjacker was raped by somebody in a completely unrelated incident. Would you think it appropriate for the rape to be minimized just because the victim is a criminal? Bad people can have bad things happen to them, and while an ordinary person might think that's just karma and that they deserve it, officers should be expected to be better than that and should be held to a higher standard than that.

    • @internomad
      @internomad ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@JaymiKit5une I understand the point you are making, however, just because a bad person such as your example of a car jacker happens to be on the receiving end this time and has become a victim doesn't mean he is worthy or deserving of sympathy after victimizing others and now he is the victim and so he is now suddenly deserving of sympathy. Once a convict, always a convict, even after serving time you are viewed as a ex-con and regarded as such, right up until something bad happens and their status changes from excon to victim and sympathy to follow. Not how it works. Just as if there is a bad cop/ corrupt and something bad happens to him, Is he a victim or is the response, good he got what he deserved because he was a corrupt cop. Plus a car jacker usually doesn't harm people like a drug dealer does. Drugs dealers kill people and rip families apart because of their existence and actions. Carjacker doesn't.

    • @JaymiKit5une
      @JaymiKit5une ปีที่แล้ว +79

      @@internomad That's such an unfortunate way of thinking. Do you not believe people can change? Take an alcoholic, for example. Alcoholics can potentially ruin the lives of those around them, but would you still think they're "always an alcoholic" even when they no longer drink? A lot of people are capable of rehabilitation (not all people, by any means). Like I said though, the regular person can judge people on a personal level all they want - however, officers should be better than that and if they approach every single situation with such negative bias, then they are simply not good at their job.

Sometimes they try to reason because they know if they don't try to fix the situation, the second their partner gets out of jail, they'll be reaping the consequences of a beat down when their partner returns. Its also natural even in a domestic violence situation for them to want to protect their partner, especially in men because that has always been their role in society.

I was feeling really really down about my self and when the booking officer asked me if i had any feelings of hopelessness, or wanting to hurt my self or others. I said "Well, yea, I feel pretty hopeless right now" but answered in the negative to the other questions. Didn't matter, and that was one of the biggest lessons of my life. If you think telling an officer to take you to the hospital because you feel like you want to kill yourself you are making a BIG mistake! Not only was I put on a 15min suicide watch for the first week, the entire block i was put into had to endure the same watch. Not a good way to make friends in a shitty place.

      Honestly I think that's one of the biggest issues in mental health, you can really call for help, telling a cop or medical professionals will get you automatically psych lock up, which if you have a job that going to leave you in an even worse place of missing pay, if not your job entirely. The hotline is really a crap shot, especially if you are a code is your current location there's amazing program but they are so few and depending on your location not available. Like there's kinda like a retreat/rehab where unlike a hospital you aren't restraint and you can leave anytime. Honestly it's a shame of how gutted mental health is but when it comes from the same pool that goes to feeding people and housing people, I can see why people axed mental health to basically therapy (which depending on your issues isn't always sitting down and working through it but other types of therapy like inner child therapy, relationship therapy), mental hospital (I'm not surprised pharmacy company profits off of it so I don't think reform is going to change) and psychiatrist. That's basically your only choice especially since not a lot of people even know how to get to the right therapy or what types exist. Good luck on alternative to that due to lobbying you would have to basically move to an area which is probably expensive to get expensive mental health treatment that is more beneficial.

I accepted the moved seat, and politely asked the airline gate rep, what I could do about compensation for the the lost money and they politely responded that I call the number they then highlighted on my ticket and told me exactly what to do when I landed and apologized for the inconvenience. They had a full flight with a list of standby and I hadn't checked in before they started giving seats away. Annoying, yes. My fault? Debatable. I could have checked in earlier. Airport representative doing their job's fault? No.
