  • Welcome back. Michael here and today is about the question of which of the Ubuntu editions is the better or smart choice for whom. LTS vs STS.

dude this is the first linux video that just explains things in a way i can understand them holy shit thank you. I know that the sts and lts question might be a noob one but as soon as you compared it to windows it all clicked in my head please keep making more videos and dont stop. There are channels with tons of subs and all they do is ramble and talk about how the distro they use is better than the one they are teaching you about. Thank you again.

I had 22.04 LTS a little after it came out and it was a little bit buggy and eventually I got excited about 22.10 and gave it a try, and it was amazing! but after a while that excitement went down and because I needed to reinstall the OSs of my PC I gave it a try to 22.04.1 and it is still on my PC to this day, very stable and packages are up to date thanks to snap and flatpack
STS are cool but the more I think about it LTS (and specially LTS .1 and after releases) are the way to go, I want my PC to work and have a stable experience for a long while

Thanks for a thoughtful discussion of the topic. For most users who depend on their main computer to get real work done, the LTS version with selected use of trusted PPAs and Flatpaks as you described seems to be the obvious choice. I think a lot of the really adventurous Linux users are on rolling release distros anyway ;-)

You really don't lose anything by sticking with the LTS

That's what I think as well. The advantages of the LTS Edition clearly outweigh the disadvantages for me.

In the olden days, i usually install LTS for the stablity of the system. BUT for software, i install (microsoft plus-one risk, from sp2 or version 2 to new-stable after release-candidate and not-beta) from stable-branch. For audio-video, i install from third-party multiverse licensing-left. For intermet browser, i am tempted to be evil and install from experimental-branch but ended-up only using ppa.

      Suggest
      = Boot-loader STS for game-environment,
= one OS per game selection
= (same distro is one-download for less brain-multi-swapping not-multi-tasking, hopefully not needing clear-linux except copy config from clear and install config to others, but i quit x86, so... flat image pack jailed storage-persistence)

I need to use KDE and Gnome software-APPlicationS so i chose MATE or something else then get synaptic to issue non-HTML-get.sss of those softwares and build dependencies...

Why all the videos on youtube about new ubuntu versions usually show review in virtual machine, some of the the the show the installation process, but no videos about using it really, for work, programming and gaming, especially with 22.04.2 version which was released in February?
What about bugs, python, freezes, firefox, etc. Really, no serious reviews, translations, and just videos.
