He's rated extremely highly rated among comedians, and people who are aware of him.
However giving a guy like this any publicity becomes tough from a marketing perspective....especially in this day and age, which is a damn shame.

greatest comedian alive on the planet. i had the opportunity to see him live, at the end of his show he said he'll take pictures with anybody even though he hates having his picture taken. he's really cool and after his set he goes out into the crowd and just hangs out with everybody for the rest of the night, signing whatever people want him to sign, having conversations about whatever, you can buy him a drink and he'll drink with you, etc. super chill and humble guy, and just an all around great human being.

I saw Doug live in Honolulu and met him before the show and got a picture too. got to talk to him for a few minutes. could tell he hated it, but he was super cool. I'm originally from near Boston like him, so we talked about that, and he was like "have you heard of Bill Burr"? and I'm like "yeah of course!". hahah.. it was about 15 years ago I think so Bill wasn't super popular yet

I hung out with Stanhope in the early 2000’s. He’s the reason I did some standup and thought about doing it again. This isn’t a character he plays on stage like many standup acts. It’s just him. This is him. Dude is hilarious and a bit of a nut case. Makes me love him even more

Doug Stanhope is a living legend. I have his albums on my phone and often listen to one or more of them when driving long distances. My favorite part of this bit is how quiet the audience gets when he is about to explain 'proof of the afterlife' - as though it was going to be a ghost story or something. If you enjoyed it, I'd encourage you to check out more of his stuff, especially the rest of his album 'Beer Hall Putsch'. Love the channel.

My mom passed away in the house i grew up in almost 2 years ago. She was on hospice and refused to go to the hospital. She died in the house they lived in for 53 years. We sold the house a year ago, my dad got dementia about 8 months after she passed away due to missing her i believe. We had my dad sell the house and move into a home. The people that bought the home knew about my mom passing away in it, ( it is a law in California that they be told) and they paid $300,000 OVER the asking price. My dad walked away with $1.6 mil. With that and his other investments he has more then enough to live comfortably for the rest of his life. So I don’t think it lowered the sale price, but it was an awesome home. Very private with a long driveway up to the house. Sad to see the house gone that i grew up in, it was the mountain. The place all the family went to for holidays.

Doug Stanhope might be my all-time favorite comic. I think this is my favorite bit of his, too. He deserves to be much bigger, but selfishly, I'm glad I can still see him in small clubs for a reasonable price. Weirdly, I think he prefers it that way, too.
It seems like just about every comic lists him in their top 5. I'd bet if you surveyed every working comic today about who the most under-appreciated comic is, Stanhope would be #1.

Doug Stanhope is your favorite comedians favorite comedian. And since you like literature, you should check out Doug's first book called "Digging Up Mother". And for reactions I would start with anything from either the No Refunds album, or "Something to Take The Edge Off", although all of the other albums are graet too. Doug won't get the full recognition he deserves until he's dead. Most comics rate him in the top 5 or 10 all time greats.

I've seen a video tour of his house in Bizbee, AZ. It's very unique, very quirky. I think in this situation, it wouldn't affect its value at all. On a personal note, I bought a house where the homeowner died in the master bedroom. Great architecture, huge. Best house I've ever owned. I used to have people approach me to buy it.

  • @indianlakeohio1050
    @indianlakeohio1050 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Just dying in a house does not hurt the value. However, if the circumstances of the death are gruesome, mysterious or vexing then yes, it may have a negative effect.
The house i currently live in is my dream retirement home. After we purchased the home a neighbor informed us that apx 10 years ago a lady killed herself (shot) on the front driveway. I have never experienced any unusual phenomenon in or around the property. All happy at Indian Lake Ohio.
    Love your channel!!

100% agree with the previous comment as several of the episodes I've seen from Doug which I think I've seen pretty much everything that's legally out there as far as his specials and they are all top notch. I've left several comments referring Lewis Black and I also just thought about Tom Papa who is amazing as well. As far as haunted houses go I would not doubt that there's a possibility of them being haunted but I certainly don't believe that just because a person dies in a house that it will end up that way. Anyhow, stay beautiful Madam amazing smile.

It's on here in it's entirety. It is hilarious, but also he says the most intelligent things. I've watched several of your videos and really liked you from the start, instant subscriber and hope to see more in the future...
As for the existence of the supernatural/paranormal is simple, I don't believe in anything within the framework of the supernatural/paranormal for the same reasons I'm not worried about stepping in a pile of unicorn crap, or believe in leprechauns or Santa Claus...
No evidence/good reasons, no beliefs on my part... 😁👍
As for participating in a loved ones suicide, personally, it would highly depend on who/why, in relation to me, but I probably would, at least in some cases... I believe that each of us have the right to leave this world in peace and with dignity. Anybody who has been witness to a loved one or anybody else for that matter knows just how heart breaking it is to watch them slowly suffer. I mean we treat our pets better than that. I believe that when all hope is gone and suffering is present, and ones quality of life has reached the point of non existence, it's better to leave this world in peace and with dignity than the alternative.
If I could just request a couple of videos from one of the greatest stand up comedians of all time, and that I think that you'd really enjoy, considering you liked Doug Stanhope's kind of humor here, would be the great, late, Patrice Oneal... Any and of of his videos would be sufficient but I'll leave the links to a couple below 😂👍✌️

This was a brilliantly dark bit of comedy. I had not heard of this comedian before. He is very good. On home sales. I have been told that some states require that you disclose whether someone died in the home. Don't know if that is true. But some properties sell well anytime, so I don't think the death would have much impact.

Stanhope lives local to me in Bisbee AZ, a block or two above a breakfast place I frequent in town. Saw him in there for the first time a couple of months ago. I wanted to meet/greet him somehow, but knowing how dark the guy can be, I thought better of it and stayed away. I specialize in probate deals where a lot of the properties had owners die in them. It doesn’t really make a difference in all honesty. Cash investors looking to flip properties will buy it unless there’s a BIG story behind the death. Otherwise, they’ll buy before the blood dries.
I would assume that you were more interested in the actual live in homebuyer, and I would say that they could perhaps use the fact that there was a death as a negotiation tool to lower the price but it usually won’t affect the sale. I haven’t run into blatantly haunted houses. I also clear the homes with sage and palo santo to be safe and that seems to eliminate any bad energy on the homes. I hope that was of interest.

Your comment that it was, “beautifully dark,” is perfect. By the way the house is Doug Stanhope’s house. He still lives there and has no plans of leaving (was a fire and had to rebuild some of it so probably a bit different). Even if he did, there would be a fan (one of the few who has any money) that wouldn’t give a shit about the mom dying in the house because most of his biggest fans are probably atheist anarchist types like himself and wouldn’t have such superstitions.

Houses can be haunted. My wife told me the first time I visited her home that it was haunted. My response was: Well, it would be cool to meet a ghost.
Then one night at her house, I had to use the bathroom, which was on the ground floor. On the way down I was thinking: Well, it would really suck to meet a ghost now... And I got the chills.
The next morning my wife told me that her nephew, who had slept in the living room had asked her, why she had followed me to the bath room, but stayed there... Except she was sleeping at the time...
And the scary part, I haven't said anything about my chills during the night, lol...
So I guess ghost are real...

Knowing him, the bit is a middle finger to the hypocrisy of the court system that asks you to swear on religious material rife with miracles yet expects nothing short of concrete evidence to be admissible in court. In other words, you ask me to swear on a book about afterlife, yet you won't accept afterlife as a possibility.

If you want to react to the most hilarious extreme of modern comedy, check out *anything* by Sean Rouse. He was a good friend of Stanhope, was a slight man, very angry, suffering from rheumatoid arthritis from a young age and died a couple of years ago (I believe in his 40s). Sean Rouse channeled all of his pain and suffering into his comedy...and he didn't hold back on subject matter.

YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS! Doug Stanhope is one of my favorite comedians of all time and certainly the greatest living comedian. I'm really happy you checked him out, I think you're an especially intelligent and likeable person 😁

In France half the houses are several centuries old, so if people were afraid to live in a house in which someone died, half the population would be homeless

If you like routines that manage to take a dark subject or situation and turn it into great comedy, check out Jim Jefferies' story of taking an MD sufferer to see a prostitute.

BTW: Jim Jeffries apologized that he stole Doug Stanhope’s egg bit. They are still friends, but that was a big deal for comedy fans.

I can say from experience that hauntings can be real.

There are probably some folks who are uncomfortable living where someone has recently died. Then again there are also people who would explore and exploit a reasonable opportunity to negotiate a discount on such a high value purchase. Probably some overlap between both groups too.

I don't know if a house can be haunted by death... I don't think so. What I'm sure of is that YOU can haunt your house, while you are alive, with your demons and negative thoughts, spawning from your life experience. I know cause I live with my own hauntings. You learn to share your space with them, you accept them, you move on, you try to bring light with new, better experiences. You grow up and evolve and you exorcise your house with your improvement. What you see now as hauntings and demons (or shadows, ghosts of what could have been, residual presences of other people, former partners, etc.) just become parts of yourself that teach you to... go on. Sorry, that was not the topic. But, well... whatever (please forgive my English, it's not my first language)

my cousin sold me a house, and I asked about a discount on a house someone died in, and he said it actually raises value. a ton of people want a house where someone died. most don't care either way. very few are bothered by it.
according to a real estate broker

Yes, my house was haunted, I been living here for 22 years, I haven’t seen them in some time. I didn’t know at the time a old woman die in the house. I found out later. Her cat would walk on my bed and per. I caught her peeping at me in the hall way at times, One night I try to grab the cat, never seen them again.
