3:50 man you totally nailed it and this is why I've started listening to chiptune more recently cos it seems to be the only electronic genre I can find that consistency focuses on the composition in a more traditional way.
I remember how music was programmed on the 8-bit Commodore 64. Everything was made in BASIC code language. You would "tell" the SID chip what waveform you wanted, at what volume, key, and you had even a filter (only lowpass, I think). Just a bunch of text in a screen. No graphical user interface. Well not everything was made BASIC, lots was also coded in assembly (ASM) because it's much faster. Also later on the Amiga there was still lots of ASM coding going on.
For those interested, Kontakt also has one superb (paid) 8-bit vst called Super Audio Cart, but you can get one of the emulated consoles for free (game boy) with Super Audio Boy. You can also check out Magical 8-bit plugin, which has been around for a while, but recently updated. Checkout Felipe's reply underneath for cheaper options though :)!
But is very expensive. There are a lot of alternatives (and cheap) in chiptune, like Toad and Peach from Tweakbench (1 dollar each one), AudioThing miniBit or, if you want Genesis sounds, AlyJames FMDrive.
Super Audio Cart is about the same price as the vst presented in this video though, but you're right about these alternatives :)! I have this. I got it the day released, but Apple needs to release the machine I need soon, because I can’t run Falcon Stably, and I want to learn that multiple tracks in one instance, trick. I think it would be multitimbral, in Logic, if I’m right.
