Tiger has made Golf appealing for more than just one demographic & generation... When Tiger plays I watch, when Tiger is not apart of what’s going in golf it doesn’t matter to me... I watched Tiger rise and fall from grace. Now I’m back for the comeback story. To see him shut up all his critics. I’m a fan of Tiger more than I am of golf, yet because of Tiger I have found interest in golf that was never there before Tiger...🏌🏾‍♂️🏌🏾‍♂️🏌🏾‍♂️🏌🏾‍♂️🏌🏾‍♂️🏌🏾‍♂️

You don't have to "feel" like it was an event on Sunday.....I was there and it was. The electricity in the air was beyond anything I have ever seen. I was fortunate enough to get to the course Saturday morning to watch and follow Tiger finish his second round. And then watch him hit balls before the start of the 3rd round. There was no way to follow him the 3rd or 4th round because every fairway was so deeply lined with fans.....all rooting for Tiger. The roars could be heard throughout the course when Tiger did anything worth clapping for. And there were plenty. Even if there was someone putting on the 18th hole for birdie and Tiger came up on the jumbotron......it would not have mattered if that player was in the middle of his putt....if Tiger did something worth yelling about, it was going to happen. This may have been St Louis...and no we don't get many PGA events here....but take it from me.....everyone came to see Tiger.

America loves a hero, we love it when our heroes fall, but we also love it when they rise up from the worst possible defeats and the worst personal mistakes, we love it when our heroes hit rock bottom and prove that they are capable of falling as low as we often do, but there is no better story in this world than a hero who rises up and shows us all the reason why we held him in such high esteem, cuz he's Tiger Woods and he just won the Masters for the 5th time, won his 15th major, we all loved Jack, but he was the best family man, husband, a man easy to love and deserves to win. But Tiger fell so far, yet has risen back to the man we all knew he was and we wanted to be. He proved to us all that you dont have to be an asshole to be loved, he showed us how much eveyone wanted to see him win yesterday, the patrons made more noise than Jack winning in 86, thanks Tiger, thanks for showing us that you can stumble , you can make mistakes, but when you believe in yourself amazing things can happen !

Tiger is the most exciting golfer in history. Did you see that crowd? Did you see the ratings? Dude is exciting as hell.

EMANeleVenElevEn dude Jordan at 60 might be able to play in the nba, your point?

    • @iro9486
      @iro9486 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@EMANeleVenElevEn so because people can compete for a longer period of time in their life it's not a sport? That makes the competition better. Means you have to be even better. Means that to be the best player you're not the best out of 50 in the world that have a chance to be compared to in whatever position you're in but thousands. Thousands that have a chance to be at their best for decades. Every sport is an expertise at the professional level. People run marathons in their 70's that makes them incredible athletes. That doesnt make running a marathon any less of a sport. Some peoples abilities dont deteriorate as much with age in golf there is not as much of a risk of injury so people play longer. If football was not a contact sport there would be QBs in their 50s for sure. In fact Brett Favre is more athletic now than he was during his career so if you see him being even better at his age is football now not a sport? If Shaq decided to go get picked up on a team next year would the NBA no longer be a sport? Jamie Moyer pitched until he was 49 is baseball not a sport? I'm not pissed or anything that you have your opinion I just dont understand it. What does age have to do with athletic ability? Players work on their strength, endurance and flexibility and practice and have the same abilities as someone younger than them that doesnt make it less of a sport. It's not like all they do is play golf theres a lot of other training that goes into that and yes tom Watson came close, but no one in their 50s has ever won a major. Players in their 40s have just like every other sport. So what's the difference?

Bottom line is no one in here can go out and shoot a 64 on a very tough championship course. It takes skill , talent , and true talent to do it. Tiger woods did it for 11 straight years in a sport that is the hardest to dominate. People in general wrote this guy off. He's probably 80 percent of himself from year 2000. 2000 was bar none the best golf has ever been played.

I’ve read now numerous posts on Tiger’s 5th Greenie, the comparisons to other star athletes in their respective sports as to who moves the “Needle” best. Well allow me this. Whilst difficult to gauge Tiger in my humble opinion has proved that he is THE Needle. I loved watching MJ, Walter, the Express etc., but didn’t scramble and or drop everything to watch them play save possibly the playoffs. Yet when T-Dubya’s playing I’m locked in from the first round as are millions around the world. And the majority of viewers (as fairly 60-70%) don’t watch golf at all, in fact most loathe golf at best...that is unless Tiger Woods is playing. Also go research and crunch the numbers ie tv ratings, podcasts, ticket sales etc., no contest. As for the soccer stars?....drop Messi or renaldo off in downtown Des Moines or Topeka and see how people will recognize them vs Tiger. For goodness sake people are having TW viewing parties set for his hopefully being in contention on Sunday, and the party set up tuesday prior! Really? Golf? I love the game but honestly unless the top of the leaderboard (w/o Tiger) on Sunday has a few of the best players going at it? I’m not feeling it, nor watching it. And sidebar, soccer? It paid for my sons sheepskin but I just cannot watch 198 minutes (or whatever it is) of a bunch of dudes feigning injuries on the way to a possible goal...sorry son. Btw many good comments here. Blessed day to all.

Because she didn't return at a grand slam, she return at a smaller tournament. Serena returning to Wimbeldon was a MASSIVE deal in the UK and no one's gonna forget the US Open last year for a long time. Also the media coverage during the US Open in 2015 when she was going for the calender slam was insane. It was the first (and probably only) time the women's final sold out before the men's final.

I would have to think Jordan had a similar influence, not that he did to me. That being said Tiger Woods has been my absolute hero since I was 4. Hes the reason I became a professional golfer, hes the reason I've practiced for thousands of hours, hes the reason I started working out for hours a day when he did it in the 2000's. His bodies transformation changed the game forever because he always had a power game but it turned it into an actual athletic display when he had so much power and precision with his body. It was no longer just someone with natural abilities and dedication to practicing and a tough mental game. It's now even more remarkable that even with a fused spine in his 40's he is far above average in swing speed. He is a freak, he won the toughest golf tournament in the world on a broken leg. His impact in golf is more than the growth it's a revolution into an actual sport. Not just a game. It was always a sport, sure, but its different now. The athleticism required to compete with the games elite is incredible. You can see it every single week and that's because of one man. What he did for me he did for not just thousands but hundreds of thousands of children. It's amazing. The inspiration and motivation he has given to children all over the world. Adults as well sure but most of them never had to compete in the way we see this new generation competing today.

Golf is so boring . Even the players hate it. They want it to be over quickly. That's why they give the cup to the one who plays the least amount of golf.
JK Tiger woods is the the michael jordan of golf. early 2000s watching him in his prime was a feast.

They’re all correct and even today after Tiger Woods won the Tour Championship there are morons saying he’s not back until he wins a Major... they clearly don’t watch golf that’s clear but most of it is stubbornness to refuse admitting they were blatantly wrong! Golf is more than majors! Here’s a list for you, Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, Sergio Garcia, Justin Thomas, Jason Day, Henrik Stenson: all have ONE major over their careers and are greats in the game! Luke Donald and Lee Westwood each got to #1 in the world have ZERO majors!

    Stupid to think of 80....
For those who dont consider him the GOAT....I can assure you there are multiple videos of the Masters where prior to Woods winning ANY majors, the sports media included any USGA championships won as part of the win total.
    Tiger: 14+6=20
    Jack: 18+1=19
*also of the Snead record: 5 of these wins are counted, and they were TEAM events. Why? You should count Tiger's team events too then.
    Numbers are numbers.

So what about Harold Varner III? He's Black. Tony Finau has some African blood. Tiger has increased Black participation in the sport, and hopefully within the next 5 years there will be double digit golfers of Black African ancestry.

I think one of the reasons Tiger is as popular as he is has to do with the fact that no other athlete in history in their respective sport has changed that sport as much as Tiger has changed golf. Tiger literally brought the sport of golf to a whole other generation. So many people started watching golf simply because Tiger was playing. I remember a time when we joked about how the only reason you would watch golf on the weekend would be to get a good nap. Tiger changed all that. Another athlete who was able to bring huge numbers of new viewers to their sport was Rhonda Rousey. But even she pales in comparison to what Tiger has accomplished The only negative, if I had to pick one, would be how this change kind of only pertains directly to what Tiger is doing. To put it in other words, when Tiger dropped off and started having his issues and injuries, I stopped watching golf. Now that he is coming back, I'm watching again.

What we don't understand is WHY!? Why is everyone so intrigued in Tiger? I'm about 5 years younger than Tiger so I remember him from start till now.. all I really know when I got into golf in my late teens is Tiger Woods existing and blowing up. I didn't PAY attention before that.. and I lived on a golf course. Is it because he's so good? Meh.. yeah that's part of it - but we have plenty of other AMAZING golfers that have fans but don't have this effect. It's some combination of ability, personality, diversity, underdog (now), and something intangible we can't put our fingers on but a large portion of people ENJOY watching golf when Tiger is playing, and playing well -- and just don't give a flip about it if he's not. Is it everyone? No. However, it's substantial enough that Tiger is a Billionaire.. and adding to it.

      GuessTechSports Well stated.
The "intangibles" are a real thing.
      Who has (had) it?
      Wayne Gretzky
      Michael Jackson
      Michael Jordan
      Tom Brady (unfortunately)
      Tom Cruise
      Messi
      Ronaldo
      Russell Wilson
      Tiger Woods
      Kobe Bryant
      Steph Curry
      Lebron
These superstars are born to succeed, born to thrive on the biggest stages of their respective sports.
      Ps.
I believe also that Donald Trump is lacking precisely in the Intangible Superstar department.
