18:03 Viharamahadevi park used to be Victoria Park back then named after Queen Victoria, they even had a statue of Queen Victoria which was replaced by the Golden Lord Buddha Statue in 1958.

The building and church architecture is beautiful. I would be nervous crossing the streets. 😂 A lot of people in Colombo speak English. The price for food and electronic stuff is very reasonable. Mandy and Lee, thank you for sharing the fun and informative video. ❤

Yes it's such a fascinating place with amazing architecture and a really interesting mix of religions. The level of education is high so many people speak English thankfully. 🙏 Prices are incredibly reasonable here so it is really a paradise for the frugal traveller. ❤️🎉🇱🇰❤️

😮 I AM EXTREMELY IMPRESSED by this vlog or should I say by Colombo.
Beautiful buildings & parks, pretty clean, appetising food, extremely affordable, lovely people.
That said, they need to regulate traffic / add pedestrian crossings!
I can easy understand cheap locally produced food BUT when I see cheap equipment (power adapter / phone cover), all I think is how ripped off we are.

The council have recently made new rules about street cart vendors not being able to set up on certain roads to try and relieve the traffic chaos. I see why tuk tuks are definitely a better option than cars to help keep traffic moving and there are more and more electric ones showing up now.
It sure is a bargain place to pick up tech, clothes etc... The sort of place that's worth arriving with an empty backpack and shopping for all your needs once you get here. 😊

The Dutch Museum is an absolute gem in the middle of chaotic Pettah. It was open until recently but perhaps closed these days for renovation.
Here before watching the video but I already can tell it's gonna be a nice one I remember watching Harald Baldr videos on markets I believe also Sri Lanka ones, funny and interesting.

12:13 that's the old town hall. 17:47 the white building is the new town hall. The area is actually known as Town Hall (part of Cinnamon Gardens). But we no longer have the "town hall" concept but rather it is now the Colombo Municipal Council, which serves kind of similar functional purpose.
Thanks 🙏 I'd quite like a look inside the new town hall to compare the difference. 😊. I wish we'd spent more time around Cinnamon Gardens. It seems a lovely area. A city like Colombo really deserves at least a week to just scratch the surface. I'm looking forward to returning one day. 🙏❤️

British colonialism always leave a water mark of there creation of what they build whether it is a Parliament building or a White House or even a Colonial Hotel with similar architecture, if you take Colombo Parliament building for example the water mark of the building is the statue in front, plus the yellow junction box that you walked through is British design.
Funny enough.
This is so true. One of my favourite buildings is Victoria station in Bombay/Mumbai. A true work of art. ❤️
