    You got me thinking about the Royal Rumble of GMs. So, being both a geek and a git, I did up a spreadsheet and made some calculations. Here are the results:
    1. 14 of the 32 NHL GMs are what I classified as 'non-combatants'. They either did not make it to the NHL, or they didn't play hockey outside of high school or college. They finished out of the picture.
    2. 15 of 32 NHL GMs are what I classified as 'combatants'. I took their NHL games played and their PIM accrued and created a ranking system for both. Their GP score was basically what percentage of the maximum number of NHL games played by one GM, and their PIM score was based on a ratio of their PIM per game versus the maximum value of PIM per game. I multiplied their GP score by twice their PIM score to create a final score.
    3. 3 of 32 NHL GMs I classified as "whackadoodles". Two were goalies, one was a lawyer. I generated a score for them by multiplying the average final score from 2. above by a random integer between 0 and 3, and then divided by 1.5 to get their final scores.
    Method: I ranked the 15 'combatants' along with only the highest score of the 'whackadoodles' and eliminated the bottom half of the scores at each level. At each subsequent level, I multiplied the original final score by a randomized number for that level, and then resorted, dropping the bottom half of each tier until we achieve a final winner.
    Out in the first round:
    * Sweeny, Adams, Treliving, Sakic, Kekkalainen, Fitzgerald, Wilson, Benning, Holland, and Brisebois.
    Out in the Second Round:
    * B Murray, Yserman, Hextall, Francis
    Out in the Third Round:
    * Nill, Bergevin
    Winner: Guerin
    Runner-Up: Blake.
    You're welcome.

    Adam, don't forget in that Damphousse trade the Leafs also got Glenn Anderson who hit 20+ in both full seasons with the Leafs and added 17 in the season he was traded for Mike Gartner. Gartner was here for a good time, not along time but was great, 12 points in 10 games after the deadline deal and 35 in his last year with the Leafs. Now, to Fuhr, who was good, but got pushed out because of Felix Potvin, so what did the Leafs do?? They traded Fuhr for back-up Darren Puppa who put up some great numbers before being claimed in the expansion draft, a first round pick who turned out to be Kenny Jonsson and DAVE ANDREYCHUK. The Leafs got a LOT out of that deal.

    What is with this absolutely insane narrative of "Do you want the whole game to be played on the power play?"!
    That's not how things would actually progress if the NHL was officiated by the rule book all the time! Players would adjust, they'd understand with extreme clarity what is and what is not a penalty in that scenario!
    Sure you might have a few months of crazy penalties in games but that'd taper off real damn quick because there'd be no confusion.

    • @joer8854
      @joer8854 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So tired of that. Call the penalties as they should be called and let the league adjust.

    • @tylerganske3788
      @tylerganske3788 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joer8854 Mhm. From my perspective hearing stuff about "managing games" it immediately tells me there's no competitive integrity in the NHL. You can't "manage a game" except for BY THE RULE BOOK, and still talk about competitive integrity because you've now stolen that from the players and teams.
      Also just a funny way of saying "rigged games".

    • @joer8854
      @joer8854 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tylerganske3788 It's not rigged, that's such an overused stupid comment by fans who think the League is against their team. The league is spending too much time worried about not making the refs a deciding factor that it sometimes ends up a deciding factor because of it. Don't try and even it up in regard to the number of penalties, just call the game.

    • @rob9133
      @rob9133 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joer8854 yah I agree but it’s not like the refs can actually call the game by the book the way the book is currently written. Rules aren’t black&white enough so they make judgment calls.
      Refs seemingly have to decide what style of game they’re going to call before the puck drops (soft calls vs no calls). So when they accidentally make the wrong call/no-call and it doesn’t match up with the standard of penalties that they’ve set for the game they become inclined to make the same call/no-call on the next infraction to the other team if they can. The reason game management is like this is because it’s the best system that can be made out of the current rule book which doesn’t account for severity of minor infractions (ie: the difference between stepping on a stick and tripping or being hauled down by another players stick). Refs have to decide within seconds wether something like that warrants a penalty or not and they can’t walk back their call at all so instead they keep an eye out for a makeup call when they know they strayed from the standard that they had to set.
      Most obvious example is cross checking. Refs don’t look twice when someone gets cross checked. But if refs decide to call a cross check one way (for whatever reason, maybe it’s egregious or maybe it’s soft) then of course they aren’t going to let the other team get away with the next cross check of the same caliber. Even though they probably look past 100 cross checks each game. It’s not the best way to do it but it’s the best way that they can with the tools they have, and I don’t see it changing as long as Gary B likes it.. which I’m sure he does because it results in typically even power play opportunities for both teams.
      imo: refs shouldn’t have to choose the style of game that they’re going to call at all, there should be a standard set by the league. ultimately there isn’t anything they can do different.
      Saying that refs need to just call it the way it should be called doesn’t mean anything because the league:
      A. Doesn’t know how it should be called has never been clear about what warrants a penalty and what doesn’t
      B. Don’t want to risk changing anything
      C. *Insert conspiracy rigging comments here*

    For having supposedly done research that History Corner segment was super inaccurate unfortunately. Right off the bat, the War of the Roses (a war between the Lancasters (red rose) and Yorks (white rose)) and the English Civil War (war between the Parliamentarians and Royalists) were separated by 200 years. Also "Scotland" wasn't Protestant like England officially was, they had had their own semi-Civil War in the time of Mary Queen of Scots because Mary was Catholic and John Knox/the nobles wanted James VI raised Protestant.

    Understated in the ref discussion is that if the NHL really wants 3 PP per side every game and think that's the best way to officiate a game, they could always make that actually be the rule. If that sounds stupid, at least it's better than having that not be the rule and just making it true outside of that.

The Sabres wont be good for years anyway so adding a bad contract that has 3-4 years left wont matter much at all.

    Guys understand that buffalo knows they are retaining 50% cap on a Hall trade. Therefore a useless 1st makes sense.

    Ever consider doing a live play by play fan watch during a game. Something to consider during the play offs or during one of the last games of the season. Check that the Playoffs are out.............Dangle wouldn't be fit for any camera time. hahaha

    The Sabres are not a blank slate. They are a slate that has been used up and ruined. When Kevyn Adams tries to buy a new slate, no stores will sell him one, and slates are sold out online

    • @northerndriver2020
      @northerndriver2020 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing is, Kevyn Adams isn’t at fault. He’s a figurehead for Kim Pegula, who’s calling all personnel shots from the Head Coach on up. All Adams is doing right now, is trying to keep that GM on resume for as long as possible, potentially for a real shot when he eventually does get canned.

    The Leafs need 3 things: another guy for 3rd offensive line, a defenseman that can play nhl significant minutes, and a goalie than can play in the nhl. This team right now is 2 injuries from winning possible 2nd round and attempting the cup, but if they don't get more goalie and D better performances or players, they won't do it, and they need a few bodies still.

    • @joer8854
      @joer8854 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Leafs have done very well on defence this season. Having a superstar or even second line D just hanging out in the minors Just in case isn't an option for any team. The only player that I find concerning on D is Dermott so yeah I wouldn't mind seeing a decent upgrade there but that's about it. I'm more concerned with them bringing in depth that's signed next year to expose so they can protect Holl.

    • @VeteranVandal

      @@joer8854 I'd be concerned with who, if injured, would make the team collapse. That's the reason to trade for something : not collapsing again.
