  • The IS-3 version that Egypt received from the Soviet Union was identified as the IS-3M. It was fitted with additional fuel tanks on the rear and sides of the hull. The sides of the vehicle were also added a guard along the top edge of the track. Basically, the tank had no changes to firepower, armor, or even the firing control system.
The IS-3 heavy tank, also known as the Object 703, was one of the most famous IS heavy tank generation in the Soviet Union. The first IS-3s rolled out of the factory in mid-May 1945. This tank had an improved armour layout, and a semi-hemispherical cast turret.

A sobering commentary about using outdated equipment in a real shooting war. Use to train but not to fight I'd say. Another fascinating video. Thank you Dung.

Actually that's not accurate at all.
The IS3 could hold its own against israeli shots and was able to destroy israeli tanks with its own gun. A few upgrades and it would have been a real fighter, used to cover for the less capable T-55 and even better. The T-10 was its true successor, but the Russians abandoned heavy tank development and ended up with short tanks until the arrival of the T-14.

Very good content on exactly what I was curious to learn. Most other videos talk about the whole war, instead of just this topic.

One in Bastogne, Belgium, and one in either the Donetsk People's Republic or in the Lugansk P.R. The latter was a public display on a plinth for over 60 years, then in 2014, the separatists STARTED THE F*CKER UP and drove it away to fight the Ukrainian Army !!! You can see this tank being started up on its plinth in a video on YT. It is often said that the rebel only wanted to fire its MG secondary armament, yet you will read also that the 122mm artillery pieces in eastern European armies do have compatible ammo for it. Not sure about that, given that the tank used 2-piece ammo...? Anyway, enjoy !!!

Really, the best thing that an IS-3 can do is looking scary
