When I was younger I served time in Chippewa county, Trempeleau county and Wood county WI. All three of them would leave you hungry. So would Eau Clair juvenile detention center. It is awsome to see what you put into making meals. Trempeleau would have good meals but sometimes you wouldn't get fed. I tried to speak out durring a visit. I was taken off camera and threatened by Officer Joe Clark Trempeleau county sheriff's office. He stated if I ever told someone I would be thrown in a hole and never heard from again. I just wanted to say thanks for the effort you put forth in your jobs. It really does help to keep the jail safer. I have not been in any trouble in years. I have kids and take my life and responsibilities sieorus.

The inmate can just ask the officer for a tray of food that he/she didn't get because someone stole it. Don't say the name of the thief just be honest that you didn't get you're food.

One of the women I was incarcerated with dropped her cup and broke it. They wouldn't give her another cup, so one of us gave her a bowl, which held more anyways. Solidarity; we ALL started using our bowls. Good Times.
I just did 6 days in Vista detention center near San Diego. Breakfast at 4am, lunch at 10am, dinner at 4pm. The only drink served out of the three meals was with breakfast. One little carton of milk. Sometimes they would give you a flavored powder packet to mix with water at lunch or dinner but nothing to mix the powder with. So we saved and rinsed out milk carton from breakfast to fill with water from sink in cell. Problem was, our sink in our cell didn't work. It would literally take 20-30 minutes to fill the little milk carton with water from sink. I understand jail isn't supposed to be the Hilton and I understand it's a punishment but damn, what is this? Bagdad Iraq or something? Luckily I had a cool cell mate who had just received his commissary order when I went it and he shared with me. He was waiting to go to prison. When I got out, first thing I did was put some money on his books. Going to jail during coronavirus sucks ass btw. Only let out of your cell every 48-56 hours for 30 minutes to shower or make a phone call. They preach pandemic safety but not once did we get hand sanitizer or anything. Plus our sink didn't work to even wash our hands. Sergeant said that everyone entering jail is on 14 day quarantine unless you bail out or case dismissed. Luckily my shit was dropped. Merry Christmas everyone
You're telling the truth my brother. I did a few days at Rancho Cucamonga jail them was transferred to Aldelanto up hill. Did 5 months. I tell you our trays wasn't even as half full like they show on this vid. The toilet would get backed up. You ask for some attention and they act like you're animals just because you're behind bars. They treat you with no respect at all. Although, they did give out masks but they wouldn't give you a new one til 2-3 weeks later. They're view on safety and cleanliness is totally BS. In NY my cousin was getting yellow bologna… time and time again. It was spoiled he took pictures and got into trouble for the phone but the jail got into trouble and many got fired. I'm from Columbus Ohio. Our notorious county jail (the workhouse) is among the top 5 worst in the nation I've been told. Our food trays are not fit to feed toddlers let alone grown men. You've heard of the "dollar menu"? Our trays look like they came off the 25¢ menu 😅

If our entire jail and prison system would implement a FOOD REFORM program and upgrade the quality of food for the detainees and prisoners, there would be far less violence and health issues for them. Bravo to this Sheriff for the job he is doing.
I think its' always better to have an actual staff prepare the food like y'all do instead of bringing an outside vendor. Companies need to make profit, and often don't care, while an actual staff takes pride in their work, can get the best deals possible, etc

I did 90 days in Duval County jail back in the early 1990s. I got on the kitchen crew almost from day 1.(I was a line cook at a popular steak house). I used to load up the trays as much as I could get away with, cause I remember getting the trays that couldn't fill the stomach of a field mouse.
All gotta say is these meals look pretty good to be prison food. The lady over the meals they eat seems to be a really caring nice lady about what they eat, so they are very lucky at this prison
I was in county for about 2 weeks once and not once was I like worried about the food. There was that one guy though that used a book to heat his lunchmeat. I mean he tore the bookup but putting balogna on ink isn't healthy especially if you put it in the microwave.
I can tell you know this is a dog and pony show for the cameras because I've worked in places like this even when the health department comes to inspect they make it look like that's how it is everyday. And it's not the bosses put on a good show, and after they leave, it goes to being half assed. I worked a year as a Food Service Supervisor for Trinity Services Group. These are some of the most hostile work environments. You're sometimes better off having the job of a correction officer. Sometimes, you're understaffed or don't have enough inmates to get the job done. And the inmates like to steal anything they can get.

Back in my jail days all I can say is if you aren’t getting commissary, you’re starving. I was lucky my mom always kept me fed, but there were many times I would go into jail, not be able to get to the kiosk because of either detox or the fact I didn’t have my account set up (every time you go to jail you get a new inmate number, meaning new account) so I would have to wait to order, then once I did order I would have to wait a week for it to arrive. The first couple days you’re alright but after the 4th or 5th day all you’re thinking about it food. I’m a picky eater and I ate things I would have never ate on the outside just because I was so hungry. Honestly, if you’re a convicted criminal you deserve the punishment but for someone who’s pretrial and therefore technically innocent, it’s torture.
Humans need food, air, water, clean places, love, and medical care alongside education and training. We need stimulation to grow and rules with understanding. If you take this away from an inmate, you will have issues inside and out. We send them there to be reformed and not tortured, regardless of their crimes. In case you think I am too pro-inmate, a person touched my 8-year-old daughter, and I don't wish him a tortured life. He needs to be reformed to make him understand the rules apply to everyone. My daughter is in therapy and with my help, I don't classify her as a victim of S.A., but a survivor of an act not appropriate for her age. He is still a human being and mistakes are made. If a woman would help him out, he would not be so prone to do these sorts of things. We need understanding and not hate or hurt. Thank you all and love and respect each other, any other way is not worth it.

Normally I'd laugh, however, anytime the media shows, you're going to see a nice trey of quality food and the quantity will be more than sufficient. I'd also add this prison is lucky to have Miss Thomas as the head of the kitchen. I'm sure she orders the best you can get with such a miniscule budget. Jail food is ten times worse than prison food, however, a lot depends on who's running the kitchen. This place lucked out but hopefully she's not in prison too long. She should open her own little food truck when and if she's ever released. The county wouldn't turn a permit application down from her. I think if anything, they'd encourage it. She could even park it out front of the courthouse lol. The food trucks outside those places make bank.

This must be the jail where the rich and famous people go. Ain't no jail or prison serving this kind of food to regular inmates. This is just a front, because the camera crew is there.
Normally I'd laugh, however, anytime the media shows, you're going to see a nice trey of quality food and the quantity will be more than sufficient. I'd also add this prison is lucky to have Miss Thomas as the head of the kitchen. I'm sure she orders the best you can get with such a miniscule budget. Jail food is ten times worse than prison food, however, a lot depends on who's running the kitchen. This place lucked out but hopefully she's not in prison too long. She should open her own little food truck when and if she's ever released. The county wouldn't turn a permit application down from her. I think if anything, they'd encourage it. She could even park it out front of the courthouse lol. The food trucks outside those places make bank.

A lot of people who have been in jail and prison have not committed a crime, but have been falsely accused, by the way. With your logic there should be no standards regarding food. Bologna is not even healthy for you, by the way, and to be served it to people three times a day will probably increase their risk for cancer. It has nitrates in it and a ton of chemicals.
