    Thank you so much, you answered my question about Eltergeld Basic - especially the first 2 months of baby's life where both maternity benefit and parental leave/allowance are considered. More power to you! :)

    Thanks for this very informative Video. I have one question. I am not working. I’m living with my husband who is working in Berlin. We have our residence permit. I recently applied for Elterngeld. I got letter from Familienkasse , that they need a negativbeschinung or mutterschaftgeld information . Can you please let me know where can I get it . That would be be really helpful. Thanks

      Hi @kaylyanibhushab. Congratulations for your pregnancy/baby. The "Negativbescheinigung" can be applied for either directly when you apply to the citizenship card (Staatsangehörigkeitsausweis) or with reference to a citizenship card that has already been issued. The application must be submitted directly to the Federal Office of Administration or "Bundesverwaltungsamt". For the Mutterschaftsgeld information I believe you need to contact your health insurance and ask them to write an informal certificate about your Mutterschaftsgeld. I hope this information helps you! Good luck 🤞🏼

    Hello Marga, Thankyou for this informative video. We both are working in Germany and I am planning for my delivery outside Germany. Below are my queries 1. Am I applicable for ElternGeld in this case? 2. We are planning to take BasisElternGeld, where I will take up 12months and he will take the remaining 2months. Can these months overlap as well?

    • @margaexpatmotheringermany

      Hi Bash! Thank you very much for your comment and questions ☺️
      1. Yes, you are eligible for Elterngeld, even if the delivery is not in Germany.
      2. Yes, the Elterngeld months can overlap.
      I wish you all the best ☺️ let me know if you have further questions.

    Thanks for this! I have a question: my partner and I want to claim basis eltergeld for the first 14 months of the baby’s life. For the 15th month onwards, can i still claim elterngeldplus? If yes until which month? During this time, I dont want to work but my partner will be working full time. Thanks!!

      Thank you for your comment 🤗 unfortunately if you claim 14 months Basis Elterngeld you don't have any months left to claim any other type of Elterngeld. Also, to take the first 14 months of your child's life, you cannot both claim Elterngeld at the same time. Together you have 14 months, but each of you cannot take more than 12 months Basis Elterngeld. This means that if one of you takes the 12 months Elterngeld the other can take 2 months, those don't have to be consecutive and could be at the same time. Here 3 examples:
      1) the mother takes 12 months Basis Elterngeld from birth until the end of month 12, and the father takes 2 months of Elterngeld for birth until the end of month 2.
      2) the mother takes 12 months Basis Elterngeld from birth until the end of month 12, and the father takes 2 months from month 13 until the end of month 14.
      3) the mother takes 8 months of basis Elterngeld from birth until the end of month 8, and the father takes 6 months of basis Elterngeld from month 9 until the end of month 14.
      What you can do at the end of the 14 months is to take plus 2 to 4 months (the so-called partnership bonus, the third modality). But for that you both would have to work part-time (each at least 24 hours/week and no more than 32 hours/week) and you have to claim it at the same time in consecutive months.
      I hope this information helped you to get the best option for you and your family!

      @@margaexpatmotheringermany thank you so much! This clarified a lot.
      If I may ask once again.. 1. how come when I compute my basis elterngeld if i claim it alone it would be bigger than if both my and my partner claim it? If I claim it alone, i get 1800… first 12 months.. but if i include his salary in the computation, we only get 1300 for the first 12 months and 1300 for months 13 and 14…?
      2. If i claim the basis elterngeld for the first 12 months and then i come back to work part time starting 13th month of the baby, can i still make use of the elterngeld plus modality? Or that is also used out already since i finished all receivables from basis elterngeld?
      Thanks a lot for your help!!

      Hi @cybdalljardinel.
      1. I am not sure how you introduced the values on the calculator. The Elterngeld is calculated individually.
      2. If you use the 12 months Basis Elterngeld you cannot use anymore Basis elterngeld or Elterngeld plus. The only option is the Partnership bonus. For that, both, you and your husband, have to work part time at the same time for a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 4 months, and these months have to be consecutive.

      Hi ☺️ thanks for your comment and question. Yes! That is actually one of the most used combinations for parental leave and allowance in Germany. I wish you all the best! Let me know if you have further questions ☺️

    Can i still apply for eltern geld even if i never worked in germany for the time i have been living here in germany? But my husband works

    • @margaexpatmotheringermany
      @margaexpatmotheringermany  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Amira! Thank you for that question. Yes, you can still apply, even if you had no income before the birth. You will receive the minimum amount. For Basic Parental Allowance (Basiselterngeld) is 300 Euro, and Parental Allowance Plus (Elterngeldplus) is 150 Euro. Depending on where you live in Germany, you may apply online or by mail, check here the options for your Federal State (website in German): familienportal.de/familienportal/rechner-antraege/antragsformulare-126232
      Your husband can also apply for Parental Allowance. The amount he will receive will depend on his income in the 12 months before the birth or the last calendar year, depending if he is non self-employed or self-employed.
      The minimum Elterngeld amounts (300 Eur/150 Eur) might get higher: Do you already have other small children at home? Are you expecting twins or other multiples? Check my up coming video to understand how these and other factors play a role on your Elterngeld calculation.

    Hi.. My baby is 18 months and we're new expats, can I still apply for this ElterngeldPlus? I don't have work, only my husband.

    • @margaexpatmotheringermany
      @margaexpatmotheringermany  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can't find any information on why you couldn't apply for/receive ElterngeldPlus. Just be sure you fulfill all the specific requirements. Since I am not sure about your specific situation here some of the requirements you need to consider: You are a German / EU / EEA citizen, or you hold a permanent residence permit, or a residence permit.
      You and your partner’s combined annual income does not exceed 200.000 euros. From April 1, 2025, the limit will be 175.000 euros.
      😊 Let me know if I can further help!

    Hello, Marga! I'm I entiteled to elterngeld if i'm working in germany less than 12 months? Best, Rok

    • @margaexpatmotheringermany
      @margaexpatmotheringermany  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Rok! Yes, you are. The assessment period ("Bemessungszeitraum") is the period of time used to determine your future parental allowance ("Elterngeld"). This is the period of 12 months before the birth of your child. Which 12 months are important depends primarily on whether you were self-employed before the birth or not.
      For non-self-employed persons (I assumed this is your case, but correct me if I am wrong) and if you are the mother, it is from the 12 calendar months before the calendar month in which your maternity leave began. If you are not the birthing mother it starts from the 12 calendar months before the calendar month of the birth.
      Individual months can be excluded from these 12 months in which you were on maternity leave and/or received parental allowance for an older child in its first 14 months of life or were ill due to your pregnancy and therefore had less or no income or did military or community service and therefore had less or no income. These months are "skipped" and the assessment period begins earlier accordingly.
      I believe this is the most relevant for your question: If you have less or no income in a calendar month for other reasons, then that month will not be skipped in the calculation. For example, if you did not work in a month and therefore had no taxable income, then that month will be included in the calculation as 0 euros. This reduces your average monthly income in the assessment period.

    Hi.. My baby is 1 year old now. We didn't know about this Elterngeld before.
    1. Can I apply now?
    2. Which option is better to choose? I am house wife and my husband is fulltime working.

    • @margaexpatmotheringermany
      @margaexpatmotheringermany  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello! Thank you for your comment!
      You can apply until your child is 14 months old and you can only receive basic parental allowance in the first 14 months of your child's life.
      After the 14th month of life, you can only receive Parental Allowance Plus or partnership bonus - up to a maximum of 32 months (until your child is 2 years and 8 months old). You are then no longer allowed to interrupt the connection. If the other parent also applies for parental allowance, you can take turns after the age of 14 months. However, if there is a month after the age of 14 months in which neither of you receives Parental Allowance Plus, then you will no longer be able to receive any after that - even if you still have months left.
      From what you describe, and if your child is still not 14 months old, you still have some options: some combinations of Basiselterngeld (Basic elterngeld) with Elterngeld plus (parental allowance plus), and both off you applying for Elterngeld. If you would like to check with me some of your options, I would need a little bit more information. Please send me a DM on Instagram.
