    As someone who went through this exact comparison just over a year ago when buying my kit, here is my two cents:
    Zen (which I own) - perfect design, light enough to travel with. I am a tall guy with broad shoulders. I trained on a backplate & wing in my OW course, loved it but found the plate would dig between my shoulders causing some discomfort, manageable but not the most fun. Tried on the Zen and it was perfect, the backplate is wider then most standard backplate. Dove it dry and wet, I love it. Future customization of being able to swap the wing and go to doubles is a bonus. It did go the deluxe harness route with integrated weight pockets on the waist belt.
    Ghost - tried this on at my dive store is very nice, but I felt the backplate was a little to narrow for the same reason mentioned above. Super light, no doubt travel would be easy with it.
    Also to note if buying, Xdeep let's you customize the colors. I choose lime green and had a few dive masters/instructors comment how cool looks and the added bonus of they can easily spot me out of the group of divers

      I had a question about the color lining, is the back of the bladder fully colored or is it just the lining?

    Perfect timing on this video Mark, I am just about to buy an Xdeep backplate and wing and this has been an amazing help in deciding between the two!

    Nice video illustrating the differences. I went with the Ghost Deluxe version and can't be happier with it. I wanted as light a setup as possible. I only do tropical diving, so it's just perfect.

    Just purchased an XDeep Zen. Was on vacation in Pompano Beach and rented a backplate setup from a local dive shop, Aqui Divers. I always looked at back plates as something uncomfortable for the tech crowd. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Diving with just a rash guard I was perfectly comfortable. And It was easy to stay flat than with a jacket style BC. And since it carries the weight on your hips instead of shoulders, hikes out to beach dives are much less tiring than a normal weight integrated BC. Long story short: I liked my first experience with a back plate so much I bought an XDeep Zen during my vacation. Dove it that day and it’s so much more comfortable than standard BCDs.

    Thanks for the comparison video! Just Bought a Zen for my wife with stainless steel backplate for a little extra weight. This way she won't need as much weight in the pockets. We figured we would be better off with the stronger unit since we have to have the weight anyways. I don't thing the extra 4 pounds will really matter in our checked luggage.

    I have both. I bought the Ghost for warm water diving. I was originally going to just get the Zen so I could swap backplates for coldwater and for travel, but the Zen has a lot more weight (5.5 vs 13lbs (steel plate)) due to larger plate and double bladder. Zen dives beautifully. Haven't tried the Ghost yet outside of the pool, as I was supposed to be diving it on Friday in Cabo/Socorro Islands :(. Weight does not include integrated or trim pockets which I use for each.

    You nailed it Mark. I bought the Zen last year, and I have about 25 dives on it, and I love it for light weight and versatility. I plan on bolting on doubles, and I’ve customized a couple of D rings that couldn’t be done with many other rigs. Yes, it’s not quite as comfy as the Ghost (I’m assuming with all it’s padding) but there’s always give and take to all equipment. On a scale of 1-10 (a 10 being almost impossible) I give it an 8.

      We also ordered the lavender Zen for my wife. She wanted the pink one, but the pink photos all look red. It seems quite strange.

    Bought the Ghost as I do a mixed bag, it has loads of lift. I bought the basic harness rather than the confort and added a couple of QR clips inline in the shoulder straps to allow easy entry and exit. There is a video on here that shows you how tO do this without cutting the harness and just building in loop. Really cool and simple mod to an ace bit of kit.

    This is great video. If anyone coild give me a comparison between the ZEOS DELUXE ALU back plate and GHOST deluxe itll be great. Im really torn about the 2 im looking for a sturdy travel back plate… the ghost fits all the categories but ive never really dove with a wing style so im slightly intimidated. Any advice would be great! Zen is too big to fit as a carry on becaus of the double layer wing.

    Hi there. This magnificent video is three years old and I have a question so hopefully someone will be able to answer. I just got a shiny new zen and I am very excited about it. I got the ali backplate in order to make the whole thing lighter for travel. Question is: because it is lighter should my first thing to do - before jumping in the water- be to add some weights to make it heavier? Many thanks. Love this simply scuba channel and I am always watching it? ;-)

    Nice video as always. There is no impact almost on scuba diving here in the U.S. What is better that high school getting cancelled for like 2 months and nothing for a certified high school scuba diver to do than video games and scuba diving? Mark is my favorite.

  • @marcevans6913
    @marcevans6913 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I do wish to add that the dump valve on the Ghost should not be much of an issue as if you are properly weighted, it should not be anywhere near that inflated at any time during a dive, especially if tropical. Also, it stays very close to the tank which is much narrower than your body.
    If you are interested, here is a video of me in mine on my 1st dive with it before I got it all adjusted. The person taking the video was nice enough to swim right around, so you can see.

    • @2LeftSocksSam
      @2LeftSocksSam 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ghost is 5.5 lbs and Zen with steel plate is 13 lbs. I have both. I believe the Zen AL plate is only 2 or was it 4, lbs less than the steel plate, making it weigh in more than the Ghost. The Zen wing is pretty heavy due to the double layer.
