I doubt that most of the people that actually like Defeater have heard of Ruiner, Verse, Sinking Ships, The Carrier, Killing The Dream, Give Up The Ghost(American Nightmare). Most of the new fans are just into defeater because of tumblr and the acoustic side of "Empty Days & Sleepless Nights". Just my opinion, and i might get trashed hard for it

When Jordan really gets going though in those deep shouts its pretty brutal, but he doesnt do it all the time. Mostly just strange whimper shouts. Derek is more consistent with his lows. Check out Carpathian Cursed. That dude reminds me of Derek fosho. This song is so sick. Good job guys!!

I think that's kind of the point of the story. There's cross-references flying all over between the previous releases so it's kind of natural to continue as it's all one story. That's my take anyway.
Heart in Hands vocalist sortve has a Derek Archambault sexy feel to it too. Only Memories is a good example. No one is Derek though. Dude is untouchable. That guy can shout all fuckin night long and keep the same fierceness he had from the first song

I mean theres a vast amount of music that falls under the umbrellas of metal and hardcore music styles, so it's more up to your interpretation of 'hardcore'! But personally, Im mostly into Pg99, Saetia, Defeater, Touche Amore, La Dispute(Yes i would consider their earlier stuff more hardcore leaning) Refused, Boysetsfire, At the Drive In, blah blah. Maybe it's apparent that I have a tendency towards more experimental or 'post'-hardcore leaning tunes, but I'd consider it hardcore nonetheless!

Song is pretty good. Bit sad that some of the lyrics seem a bit similar to old songs, but it's still making for a good album
